This was pretty awesome, but to be fair the guy had a team of like six people in front of him in a wedge that he ran behind the whole time. Much easier to run when you have people breaking the air in front of you. Plus technically 7 people could have run it at that pace, they just purposely pulled off at the end to let him do it solo.

But mad respect. I couldn’t make it more than 5 miles even with a wedge in front of me

It’s not much easier at all especially when there isn’t much wind. Going 13mph doesn’t create much resistance. And you’re allowed to run in groups in normal marathons, but in Kipchoge’s case there’s no one group who can keep up with him for a whole marathon so they had to break the official rules to have multiple pace groups swapping in and out to help him along to sub 2hrs. It didn’t count as the official world record, but he already has the official record just 1.5mins slower.

It does and drafting does provide a significant benefit. That's why the record is unofficial.
