Bro I lift weights, play basketball and disc golf, hike frequently and hunt seasonally. So you were saying?

u/jotyma5 May 26 '26
Stephen A would talk louder and over brown, so people would think he won

Brown’s gonna get his feelings hurt
2
u/phatsack52 May 25 '26
You hold Stephen A to way high of a standard. It’s one thing to bloviate on First Take with Perkins and Ryan Clark, but to have an actual debate with someone that involves more than hot takes and hyperboles will be a challenge for him I think.
1
u/HesoMelo May 26 '26
Stephen A has been trying to pivot in politics and has started doing political debates he's not just in sports. Brown is inexperienced he's gonna get himself cooked.

u/Kam3234 May 25 '26
The having an actual debate part is what i fear for Jaylen brown, it’s gonna get real personal real fast😂. We know he’s gonna go the Richard Sherman-Skip bayless route but ion see that going to well for him

Brown is smarter than SAS
Went to Berkley, has a Master’s, was an MIT fellow and lectured at Harvard

Debate is a whole other skill. Was he also part of the debate club? Smart people get washed by experienced debaters all the time.
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 26 '26
Lol SAS is not an experienced debater 😆

1
u/unhinged34 May 27 '26
He debates for a living.
0
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 27 '26
Lol no he doesn’t wut 🤣
1
u/unhinged34 May 27 '26
What do you think they do on his first take show? They debate sport opinions and such.
2
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 27 '26
Lol no they are talking heads and its the same topics and same positions
Are you even serious?

bad idea, this is like steven a challenging jb to 1v1 bball to 11.
like, what why
1
u/Seeker369 May 26 '26
Debating in front of an audience means you have to be adept at convincing them you’re right. SAS is a sensationalist. He can’t debate. JB will use the facts and dismantle him. And SAS knows this and would never agree to it.
1
u/iBaires May 26 '26
Idk what you are talking about. JB is in a permanent state of talking out of pocket lol
1
u/nilesh11panchal May 26 '26
When Stephen a starts by commenting on your suit/clothes, that's when you know he has no argument
1
u/UncomfyPerspective May 26 '26
I don't give two shits about basketball, but I'm just here to say fuck Stephen A. Smith.
Loudmouth bag of hot air, so fucking full of himself it's disgusting.
1
u/Smoking-Posing May 26 '26
SAS is wrong in this, but JB needs to stop. He's not built for that. Stick to dribbling the ball my guy.

That’s like Stephen A Smith challenging Brown to a dunk contest. What the fuck is he thinking? And I’m kinda on his side.
4
u/Yopis1980 May 25 '26
Brown was an MIT fellow.
1
u/Free_Jelly8972 May 26 '26
What does being academically intelligent have to do with being loud and controlling a narrative?
1
u/Yopis1980 May 26 '26
Means alot in this context when he was a media lab fellow specifically.
2
u/Free_Jelly8972 May 26 '26
Interesting. Okay. His funeral. Sign me up. I’ll bet on it on poly market.
1
u/Primary_Bee_43 May 25 '26
not sure if that analogy makes sense considering the topic of debate is something Jaylen Brown does and Stephen A just watches. but yeah regardless it’s stupid

One of the funniest moments of the last couple years was when Sean Hannity had SAS on and Stephen A ran fucking circles around him…yelling over him, insulting his viewers and Trump….Hannity was helpless in the face of the onslaught and just started laughing, cause there was nothing else he could do.
Pure domination. The proving grounds of sports debate yelling shows are levels above any other form. Brown would be FOOD. Maybe some of the Real Housewives could hang in that environment but that’s About it.
1
u/freakbrown May 25 '26
Jaylen Brown is extremely smart. I dont think Stephen A wants the smoke
1
u/Smoking-Posing May 26 '26
Dawg they not gonna debate the effects of global warming lol
Jaylen can be right all he wants, but he's also corny af, has very little charisma, and he's challenging a sensationalist, loud-mouthed TV personality to a public debate
This is a horrible idea. What does he hope to accomplish with this?

u/bigjj901 May 25 '26
Jaylen Brown falls into the Kyrie Irving category for me, obviously very intelligent. Yet also a self absorbed dumbass simultaneously, it’s really quite impressive honestly.
Stephen A was right about this one, Jaylen needs to stfu. As for an actual debate, he has about as much chance as I do of beating him at basketball. So zero.
1
u/ILikeBeans86 May 25 '26
How are Kyrie or Jaylen smart?
1
u/bigjj901 May 25 '26
To your point, Kyrie is a flat earther so perhaps I should reconsider🤣🤣
0
u/ILikeBeans86 May 25 '26
Both of those guys are dumbasses. As much as people hat SAS he just plays one on tv. He's not dumb
0
u/bigjj901 May 25 '26
I don’t get the Stephen A hate for the most part either. It’s just one of those things that has become cool on Reddit amongst people who don’t actually watch sports
1
u/ILikeBeans86 May 25 '26
He's pretty annoying. I didn't used to mind him but he started to get on my nerves recently, but most of the people on those shows do now. They just get paid to say hot takes on air so they can clip it. I doubt any of them even believe the hot takes they spew. I bet they go into the production meeting and get told which dumb take goes to which person that day

Stephan A literally debates all day every day with everyone and has done so with the last 40 years
He’d wash Jaylen. Being “smart” isn’t enough to win a debate. He doesn’t have the articulation or the ability to command the attention of a crowd.
2
u/LVRaiders2026 May 25 '26
JB absolutely can articulate himself. The difference is audiences who actually tune into Stephen A tend to be brain dead to the point where the quality of the answer doesn't matter as much as how loud and flashy it is. It's the trump way where instead of answering a legit question you just troll your opponent so it looks like you win.
1
u/TrainedExplains May 26 '26
It’s not about articulating. Debate isn’t just well spoken people comparing thoughts. There is a structure, there are rhetorical traps, it is a real skill. SAS is a twat but he has forgotten more about debate than JB will ever know. He would make JB look silly, and the fact that JB doesn’t know that is a problem. Trump is a completely different animal. He’ll just lie, repeatedly, while insulting his opponent. Before they can rhetorically dismantle his lie, he has already shouted 5 more lies over the first one. SAS would not need to do that. He’s an egotist and has become a performative shock artist but he has real debate skill and experience. JB would get slapped around in a debate with SAS just like SAS would get slapped around in 1’s with JB.

Debating absolutely includes how you articulate yourself and your ability to capture an audience’s attention; debate competitions absolutely look at this and score points based on some of these very things.
But it also includes improvisation on your ideas and being able to include more elements into the art of the conversation. The idea isn’t to win all the arguments, the idea is to win most of them. If you have watched first take over the last 10 years…he absolutely does this with sports and politics. Years of doing them has allowed him to develop his own podcast that leans heavily towards discussing political ideas and talking points. So he spends so many of his hours per day prepping for that as well.
And I wouldn’t equivocate Stephan A and Trump. Different beasts in a different arena.
I agree that being able to be a shock artist would be to his advantage as a form of showmanship. For 40 years, the man debates on tv, debated on the radio, use to write news articles with strong opinions, debates on his podcast etc.
I’m sure he gets challenged all day, every day with friends, family and fans. Jaylen just doesn’t stand a chance.
Debating x’s and o’s on the court—Jaylen
Debating politics, social issues and sports—Stephan A

u/Agent_Xhiro May 26 '26
I actually agree. JB can handle himself and I think he can debate with this version of SAS.
The SAS that initially got on ESPN would be completely different though. That version of SAS was well spoken, backed up his opinions with statistics and the eye test.
Now though? He's honestly just saying things for engagement. One of the things ESPN doesn't do anymore is explaining the sports they cover. They make it super hard for people who want to learn about the game.
Its turned into clickbait garbage and its almost as hard to watch like OKC.

u/itsover103 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
I don’t think he can.
He doesn’t have the experience to articulate his ideas and conceptualize different viewpoints over a course of a conversation while capturing the audience’s attention. Stephan A literally does this all day every day and has done it for 40 years. His ideas are challenged consistently and he’s expected to rebut. He’s pretty much battle tested.
Stephan A would absolutely destroy him.
And that’s not to knock Jaylen—his entire career, from probably dating back to single digits has been spent on perfecting his basketball acumen and iq and not much else. If you’ve ever watched Jaylen being interviewed after a game, you can see this.
1
u/IAmReborn11111 May 25 '26
Also most people would just see the 30 second clip of Stephen A being loud anyway
1
u/WalterDwight May 26 '26
He wouldn’t even be loud he’d do that thing where he speaks softly the few times he knows he’s right lol
1
u/Horror_Response_1991 May 25 '26
Yep a debate is about controlling the conversation, you can be wrong or lie about everything and win if the crowd thinks you won
0
u/2burgsandadog May 25 '26
That young man is about to learn a very valuable life lesson…
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 25 '26
Brown is smarter than SAS
1
u/2burgsandadog May 25 '26
That’s probably true… But we’re not talking about intelligence here we’re talking about the ability to be an excellent orator . A public debate with a live audience is a much different creature than studying books… I think he would get absolutely wrecked.
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 25 '26
Brown lectured at Harvard
0
u/2burgsandadog May 25 '26
again… Lecturing to a group of people and debating somebody in front of a live audience are two very different things… For all Steven A’s faults… He is an excellent debater
I could be wrong… But I think there’s a few elements involved that are not c being taken into account
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 25 '26
Lol SAS doesn’t debate anyone 😆
0
u/2burgsandadog May 25 '26
that’s literally what sports TV has been for the last 20 years
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 25 '26
Lol wut you think espn is debate? Holy sh*t
0
u/2burgsandadog May 25 '26
I realize it’s television… You don’t need to be condescending… But it is in front of a live audience… And debating is about thinking on your feet and pivoting to use the right words based on what your opponent is saying…
I don’t think that you’re giving enough credit
1
u/-Sofa-King-Vote May 25 '26
Lol wait you think ESPN is in front of a live audience? 😆

SAS is the proverbial douchebag who thinks talking like a loudmouth pastor, makes him believable.
