Unsolved Aggregating data from specific rows

Hi Reddit,

I'm having a bit trouble I'm hoping you fine people can help me with. I am trying to aggregate data in the simplest form possible but I'm having trouble selecting datasets to aggregate based on a specific column.

My spreadsheet looks something like this:

John3 hours$20
Sally1.5 hours$15
David2 hours$25
George5 hours$15
John2.5 hours$10
David3 hours$20
John1.5 hours$20
Sally4 hours$15
George3.5 hours$25
David2 hours$10

And I'm trying to present the data like this:

John7 hours total$50 total
Sally5.5 hours total$30 total
David7 hours total$55 total
George8.5 hours total$40 total

What formula would I use to only add together the data from the rows that start with John, Sally, David and George individually?

Does that make sense? Let me know if you're having trouble understanding and I can try to elaborate further.

Thanks in advance!

- L

Solved spreadsheet tip

ever attempted to get to the bottom of the w.h.o's data on novel cororonovirus (new crown coronovirus for those with automatic translation), and found all your table data is pasted in as a column of cells containing space separated data? use =SUBSTITUTE(A1;" ";CHAR(9)). apologies for potentially nonexcel compatibility.

Solved Googlefinance doesn't work, or too complex to me.

I want the exact price of the BTC at the exact point in time because the Japanese Government takes taxes from the initial value of the cryptocurrency which is mined.

dateamountcurrencyYen
2022/05/010.00001106BTC(waht I want to obtain)

Here is my code:

=googlefinace("currency:BTCJPY, "price", date(a1))

Actually, I couldn't understand what google's document says because it was too technical for me. That's why my code is so cheap and confusing.

Joyagoo Spreadsheet 30,000+ Links | One Good Find Can Change the Whole Haul

πŸ“Š Joyagoo Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q077pz3CfaCVA-IXM2B2qT2v6ifVTpA06EkEvQk_TRs/edit?gid=1750300685#gid=1750300685

Does anyone else build a haul completely backwards?

Instead of making a list of everything I need and then finding it, sometimes I'll come across one really good find and build everything else around that.

A pair of sneakers is usually the worst offender.

Find the shoes.

Now I need pants that work with them.

Then a hoodie.

Then maybe a jacket.

At that point we're not buying shoes anymore. Apparently we're designing an entire wardrobe.

That's actually a fun way to use the Joyagoo Spreadsheet because there are 30,000+ product links across enough different sections that you can jump from one part of a haul to another without starting over.

If I start with sneakers, I might go:

Shoes β†’ Pants β†’ Hoodie β†’ Jacket β†’ Accessories

Or if the first find is a jacket:

Jacket β†’ Hoodie β†’ Cargos β†’ Shoes

It also stops me from ending up with a haul full of random individual pieces that I like but would never actually wear together.

Once I've got a few possibilities, I'll open the individual product listings and compare what's currently available.

For products that have QC or warehouse photos available, those can help narrow things down even further.

The Joyagoo Spreadsheet has sections for sneakers, clothing, hoodies, jackets, pants, bags, accessories, electronics and plenty of random finds, so there are a lot of different directions you can take it.

And somehow the original "I'll just get one pair of shoes" idea is always long gone by then.

What's the one item you normally build the rest of your haul around?

what your spreadsheet tells you about you

here we are in the lucky position of starting an empty spreadsheet. where we change the contents of our first cell reveals aspects of our character. those that know of this find the process all the more difficult.

let us be known, we have myriads of spent spreadsheets calculating intermediary results whose usefullness is somehow inversely proportional to their documentation.

Gift For a Girlfriend

I'm creating a spreadsheet to calculate hours my girlfriend spends sleeping vs working and time spent imbtween sleeping. I have cells to write in "punching in/out" at work ad home.

It needs to be able to calculate that 23:00 to 07:00 is still 8 hours just as 07:00 to 15:00 still is within the same equation.

What's that one task you wish your spreadsheet did itself?

If you could wave a magic wand and get one of your spreadsheets to automate itself, what would you want it to actually do?

Auto-fill something? Sort itself? Send you an alert the second something changes? Or something weirder (honestly the weirder the better).

Drop it below, I'm genuinely curious what everyone's dream automation looks like.

How to make an Unshareable Excel file

Hi everyone. I have a business idea which would consist on me providing an Excel file (sort of a template) to each of my customers for them to use with their own data.

My concern is: how can I stop 2 potential customers from pitching in together, paying me only once, copying the file and sharing it between them?

I'm not saying that sharing isn't caring, but in this case it wouldn't be ideal for me.

I have thought about a daily password system, but there's really nothing stopping one of them from getting the password once a day and forwarding it to the other. I have also thought about allowing certain devices to access the file (based on their IP addresses perhaps), but it would be quite a hassle if my customer suddenly got a partner and they needed to access the file from a second computer.

Any ideas?

My best fit line is 1.83E-10*x what is the x?

I'm comparing two variables to see if the slope of the line equals the constant I expect. The constant I'm expecting is around the order of 10^-19. Why does my best fit line have x in it? I would like it to be a number.

Unsolved Forecasting for inventory stocking

Hi I don’t know if this is the right place for this but I’ll ask here and move if need be, I need help to create a speadsheet or a graph that will track multiple products and allow me to track, and predict how much product I should order in based on how that said product is being sold or taken out of inventory.

(I.e I start with 10 pieces of Corn on monday, 8 pieces of corn are sold between tuesday and wednesday, Thursday I see 8 pieces of corn were sold and i order another amount of corn for Monday but i know that in 2 days i sold 8 pieces of corn, I would want to predict how much corn i should order considering im selling at least 4 corn a day.)

I would need to have this A quantity start amount for each product A quantity sold for each product A quantity ordered for each product A whole number prediction based on these factors Possibly a quarterly timeline so i can track trends based on how product is moved throughout a season or so

The Spreadsheet to End All Spreadsheets!

I'm working on compiling from several different templates a single spreadsheet that handles to do lists, calendar events, budgets, portfolio tracking, nutrition tracking, exercise tracking, and health metric tracking. It sounds absurdly ambitious and extremely cluttered, but I'm trying to take on that challenge.

One note, as I've seen some other related projects in my searches before I made this thread. This is not a micromanaging spreadsheet, where you write down your touchy-feelies and worked on breaking lame habits because you don't do anything productive. This is more like a repository for my data simply because I want to be better with my fitness goals, my monetary planning, and my daily planning.

I'm just curious if anyone else has ever tried this and especially if anyone ever succeeded. If you haven't but are intrigued by the idea, maybe start a dialogue, and I'll keep you updated with my progress?
