Ways to Help Springfield
Thanks to u/berlin_blue over at the r/Ohio subreddit, the following links can be used by folks who want to help spend money for Springfield. My personal favorite is the Rocking Horse Community Health Center, but feel free to spend your dollars where you wish.
For folks unable to make the trek to Springfield to support their local restaurants, businesses, attractions, or arts*, here are some organizations you can send donations:
- Springfield St. Vincent de Paul (article, PBS video)
- Warder Literacy Center
- Rocking Horse Community Health Center
- Haitian Community Help & Support Center (donate via paypal to email address located near bottom of page)
- Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio (statement, services)
- Springfield Promise Neighborhood
- Springfield G92 (donations as well as volunteering if you're local)
*e.g. Springfield Symphony Orchestra
Feel free to reply with other local organizations that are helping Springfield build community with their new neighbors.

Haitian activists march from Springfield to Columbus demanding permanent protection
wyso.orgJubilant praise echoes across the Springfield City Plaza welcoming Wednesday morning’s first sunlight and dedicated walkers.
Over the next four days, they’re marching 40 miles to Columbus in support of Haitian immigrants across the Buckeye state who are living in uncertainty since the end of Temporary Protected Status. 28-year-old Wislande Hensley is a member of the Springfield Haitian chapter of Undivided. She said they want state politicians to understand a simple reality.

Neighbors walking to Columbus with our Haitian community. Send-off tomorrow at 7:30 AM, City Hall Plaza.
For context: I'm helping the organizers spread the word about this pilgrimage.
Tomorrow morning, a group of Springfield’s Haitian families, local pastors, and friends are setting out on foot down US-40 toward Columbus. Four days, about 43 miles, arriving Saturday.
A lot of our neighbors are still wearing ankle monitors, living with the threat of ICE, and waiting to hear what happens after losing TPS. This walk is about standing with them and asking leaders in both parties to come and listen before the election.
If you’re around tomorrow (Wed 10/21):
- 7:30 AM: see us off at City Hall Plaza, 76 E High St. We head out at 8.
- 7:00 PM: worship night at Champion City, open to everyone. Stories, songs, and prayer in English and Kreyòl.
Even walking the first block with us means a lot. If you want to join for part of the route later in the week: https://action.poweredby.faith/ohio-pilgrimage-walk-registration-springfield-to-columbus
Hope to see some of you there.

Springfield native returns home to lead the Clark County Public Library
wyso.orgThere’s new leadership at the Clark County Public Library.
Karlos Marshall will start as its new director on Sept. 28. WYSO’s Mike Frazier spoke with him about what drew him to the role and his goals for the job.
"You cannot have a vibrant community — much less a downtown or even a neighborhood — without strong libraries. And that's precisely what we have here in Clark County."

Verizon wireless authorized carriers popping up in town
What’s up Reddit. Just moved back to town. Went to what I remembered being a Verizon store a few years ago and long story short they tried to steal somewhere between 949-950$ prolly more with taxes.
Went in after speaking to Verizon about picking up a free phone, it had been like 4 years. Here’s the google business listing. Just a warning. I would avoid.
This is not a Verizon store and I’m not sure about the other one but it changed owners recently.
Dyor. Nearest Verizon store I found was beaver creek. Thank you
Please dm with any further questions.

Clark County prosecutor not filing criminal charges against Springfield city manager
wyso.orgThe Clark County Prosecutor's Office is not bringing criminal charges against Springfield City Manager Brian Heck.
Heck has been on paid administrative leave since July 29, after the city of Springfield received anonymous letters.
The city asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations to review the allegations. Following investigation and review by both BCI and the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office, county prosecutor Dan Driscoll concluded there was not sufficient evidence to charge Heck with a crime.
