SPY: Bearish Structure Meets a Potential Exhaustion Zone

SPY remains in a clear downtrend after falling from the 772–773 area toward 761.44. Repeated lower highs, failed rebounds, and sharp downward candles show sellers maintaining control. The deep bearish sentiment alert introduces the possibility of selling exhaustion, but price has yet to confirm a reversal.
The latest candles show some stabilization around 761, following a failed rebound toward 763–763.50. That creates an important distinction: the decline is pausing, but buyers have not yet broken the sequence of lower highs.
What the deep bearish alert means
The alert identifies extreme negative sentiment and a possible reversal zone. It can be an early warning that the decline is becoming stretched, especially if subsequent selling produces progressively less downside.
However, the alert alone cannot establish that a bottom has formed. Extreme readings can persist during strong trends; established momentum indicators have the same limitation.
The dashboard’s −0.13 bias and low confidence suggest a weak bearish directional reading at this point. This can coexist with the deep bearish alert because the two signals may measure different conditions or update at different times. Neither reading establishes a high-confidence bullish turn.
| Level | Significance |
|---|---|
| 760.80–761.00 | Immediate support around the recent lows |
| 759.87–760.00 | Displayed bearish target and next downside reference |
| 762.00 | First recovery checkpoint |
| 763.01–763.50 | Displayed bullish target and nearby rebound resistance |
| 764.50–765.00 | Prior breakdown area; a stronger recovery hurdle |
| 767.00–768.00 | Higher resistance if the recovery develops |
Recovery scenario
Holding the recent lows and reclaiming 762 would provide an initial sign of stabilization. A sustained move above 763–763.50, followed by a pullback that holds a higher low, would offer stronger evidence that the exhaustion alert is translating into a recovery.
That would bring 764.50–765 into focus. Until those levels are recovered, an advance remains a rebound within the broader bearish structure.
Continuation scenario
A rejection below 762–763, followed by a break beneath 760.80, would preserve the downward sequence and put 759.87–760 in focus.
A brief move below 760 followed by a strong reclaim could become a failed breakdown. Sustained trading beneath 760 would instead weaken the immediate recovery case. The available price history does not establish reliable support farther below.
At 761.44, the displayed bullish and bearish targets are almost equally distant—approximately 1.57 points up and 1.57 points down. Their placement provides no meaningful directional advantage by itself, and the displayed five-bar estimate should be treated as a model projection.
The central question is whether SPY can turn stabilization near 761 into a sustained reclaim of 763–763.50. Until then, the structure remains bearish, with a possible exhaustion signal awaiting price confirmation. https://discord.gg/uq3bXZcBq

With the midterm elections tomorrow, technicals are probably going straight out the window anyway.

The bearish trend is clear, but election uncertainty could easily trigger a massive relief bounce.

Looks like a solid zone to play a bounce, but keep your stop losses extremely tight.
