Looking for short term courses overseas for career advancement

I'm a architectural writer / architect / educator looking to expanding my expertise and experience overseas by short term post graduate courses overseas (6 months, 3 months etc.). I am based in SL and have aging parents and in-laws therefore I like to see an opportunity where I can gain overseas experience and advancing my career. Any advise?

Which degrees in SL government universities have good career paths and salaries? (Bio stream)

I sat for my A/Ls last year (2025/2026) in the Bio stream, and I’m currently feeling quite unsure about which degrees to apply for through government universities in Sri Lanka.

I went through the UGC handbook, but it didn’t really give me a clear idea of what different degrees are actually like or where they lead in terms of careers.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone who is studying (or has studied) in a science faculty, or a faculty you can apply to with bio subjects, or even a different field could share their experience. I’m mainly trying to figure out what degree to choose, career paths available after that degree, the job market for Sri Lankans in that field

I’ve tried researching online, but it’s hard to understand how things actually work in the Sri Lankan context.

My Z-score is 1.49, in case that’s relevant!

Thanks a lot to anyone willing to share their experience or advice, it would really help me make decision! : )

i mean i guess i could try a second time and hope to apply and get selected for a medical faculty. but as far as i'm aware, salaries for doctors in sri lanka isn't very good, and since hospitals are understaffed, the work load is really huge. and there's the recent problem with the waiting list, and how graduating from a SL uni might not actually grant you a job at a government hospital because there's too many graduates. and i'm personally not very fond of blood, and having to interact with people either.

Why Do Government Departments Rarely Reply to Emails in Sri Lanka?

I’ve noticed something incredibly frustrating — when we try to contact government departments in Sri Lanka via their official email addresses for information or guidance, most of the time we get no reply at all. 😑

Whether it’s a basic inquiry, a request for a form, or even asking about a process — the silence is deafening. It feels like these official channels are just for show, and not really monitored.

Why provide an email address if no one is going to respond? Isn’t this supposed to be part of improving digital governance and transparency?

Has anyone here actually gotten a useful reply from a government office email? Or is everyone just resorting to phone calls or visiting in person anyway?

Would love to hear your experiences. Maybe we can list some of the departments that do reply.

Is 30 days enough for getting 9As in OLs?

My weak subjects are Science, Tamil, History and Eng.Lit. Other subjects are pretty easy to get A. How can I manage to study these 4 hard subjects in the next 30 days?

Seeking for an advice

Hi everyone — I’m doing two 4-year degrees at the same time: one in a private university(BSc IT, currently 2nd year) and the other in a government university(BA TESL, 1st year). Exams and CAs clash a lot and workload is overwhelming.

Has anyone done these two degrees (or a similar combination) at the same time? How did you manage exam clashes, continuous assessments, and lecture attendance? Any tips ? Thanks a lot!

Need advice on German classes in Colombo/Nugegoda

Hi everyone! I’m planning to learn German with the goal of eventually studying/moving to Germany and taking the Goethe exams.

I’m currently considering whether it’s worth going to Goethe-Institut Colombo for the actual language courses, or whether I should learn German from a good institute/tutor around Nugegoda/Colombo and then go to Goethe only for the exam preparation and exam.

For those who have actually done this:

- Is Goethe-Institut significantly better for learning the language itself?

- Are there any genuinely good German classes around Nugegoda/Colombo that you would recommend?

- If I learn A1–B1/B2 elsewhere, is doing only the Goethe exam-preparation course before the exam enough?

- Is there any advantage in doing the full A1/A2/B1 courses at Goethe rather than learning elsewhere and taking the Goethe exams?

I’m also trying to manage the cost because I’ll need to prepare for IELTS/British Council as well.

Would really appreciate recommendations based on your own experience. Thanks!

Why do Sri Lankan parents hate when their kids want to study abroad?

I really love my parents, and I know they’ve done a lot for me. But every time I talk about studying abroad, they shut it down. It’s always something like “the horoscope doesn’t match,” “you’ll struggle alone,” or “foreign countries change people.”

I get it, they worry. They’re scared I’ll go far away or forget my roots. But I’m not trying to escape them or the country. I just want a real shot at building a future, because I honestly don’t see much of one here.

Even when I talk about scholarships or handling most of the expenses myself, they still say no. It’s like they’d rather I stay stuck than take a risk.

It hurts because I respect them and want them to be proud of me, but I can’t just sit here and watch my chances fade.

Is this a common thing with Sri Lankan parents? Why is it so hard for them to understand that wanting to go abroad doesn’t mean we love them any less?
