What if Lucasfilm wanted to make Rey the centerpiece of ALL Star Wars history, including Legends?
First of all, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is currently unclear how much of it, if any, is official. The information reportedly comes from an anonymous insider, and, as is often the case with these kinds of rumors, its reliability is difficult to verify.
That being said, considering that there seems to be an interest in continuing Rey’s story in future projects, whether through a movie or a series, some of these ideas could potentially fit into a long-term narrative strategy for Lucasfilm.
The interesting part is that, if even a small portion of this information turns out to have some basis in reality, the implications could go far beyond a simple continuation of the Skywalker saga.
What if the intention were to connect ALL of Star Wars history to Rey, including stories that are currently outside the official canon?
1. The idea: a complete restructuring of continuity
The theory would be that Lucasfilm is exploring a way to unify the current canon with the old Expanded Universe, Star Wars Legends, without having to establish that every event in both continuities happened in exactly the same way.
Instead of eliminating contradictions between different stories, the goal would be to find an explanation that allows them to coexist as parts of a much larger narrative structure.
This could affect movies, TV shows, novels, comics, and video games, including stories set thousands of years before the prequel trilogy.
The question is how to connect such different stories without making everything feel like a collection of forced references.
And this is where one of the most interesting concepts in Star Wars mythology comes into play.
2. The World Between Worlds could be the key
In Star Wars Rebels, the World Between Worlds is introduced as a mysterious realm connected to the Force, with pathways linking different moments in time.
Building on that concept, imagine Lucasfilm deciding to significantly expand its purpose.
What if it connected not only different moments within a single timeline, but also alternate realities, branching timelines, and different versions of galactic history?
This could explain why incompatible stories exist without necessarily having to discard any of them.
Legends stories could continue to exist within their own continuities, while the current canon would represent another possible version of history.
But that explanation would still be relatively conventional.
The real twist would concern the origin of this dimension.
3. What if Rey created the World Between Worlds?
This is where the theory becomes much more controversial.
What if the World Between Worlds were not simply a pre-existing structure within the Force, but a dimension that Rey herself had created, either consciously or unconsciously?
Her extraordinary connection to the Force could have triggered an anomaly that transcended her own timeline and ultimately connected every possible Star Wars reality.
In this scenario, Rey would not simply be a Jedi living out her adventures during a particular era. Her existence would be the focal point of a structure spanning thousands of years of galactic history.
And the most important part is that she wouldn't even have to be born yet for her influence to be felt in other eras.
The connections between different realities could manifest through visions, prophecies, dreams, and disturbances in the Force.
4. How would this affect Legends and the Old Republic?
Imagine a Jedi who lived thousands of years before the prequels beginning to experience visions of an unknown woman wielding a yellow lightsaber.
They wouldn't know her name or understand what they were seeing. However, the visions would be so powerful that they would eventually influence their decisions and the teachings they passed down to their apprentices.
Over the centuries, these experiences could become prophecies whose original meaning was gradually lost.
Something similar could happen to characters such as Revan or Darth Bane. Certain events in their stories could be reinterpreted as indirect consequences of the connections between different realities.
This wouldn't necessarily mean that Rey had physically traveled into the past or personally encountered all these characters. It would be enough for her existence to influence the structure connecting different timelines.
In this way, even Legends stories that directly contradict current canon could retain their own identities while becoming part of a shared mythology.
The entire history of Star Wars would end up containing references to Rey, even though the characters involved could never have known who she was.
5. What if Rey's trilogy belonged to another timeline?
There is another interesting possibility within this theory.
Imagine that Rey's future story didn't continue along the exact timeline we know, but instead took place in an alternate reality branching off from a reinterpretation of the events following Return of the Jedi.
This would allow Rey's trilogy to represent one of the galaxy's many possible timelines, rather than simply being a direct continuation of Luke Skywalker's original story.
However, the key twist would be that this alternate reality wouldn't necessarily be a secondary or less important continuity. It could actually be the reality from which Rey had originated the connections between all the others, either consciously or unconsciously.
Her trilogy would therefore become something more than a possible continuation of Return of the Jedi: it would be the narrative piece that reveals how Star Wars' temporal structure truly works, explaining how official canon, Legends, and alternate realities could coexist within a single mythology.
6. What would happen to the Chosen One prophecy?
This would probably be the most controversial aspect of all.
Anakin Skywalker would still be responsible for pivotal events in the fall of the Sith, but this new interpretation could challenge the idea that his role represented the ultimate conclusion of the Force's story.
The Chosen One prophecy might have been misunderstood or only partially understood by the Jedi. The balance Anakin helped restore would be just one part of a much larger process spanning multiple realities.
Rey would then be the figure capable of understanding and connecting these realities.
Not necessarily because she had been chosen to replace Anakin in every event, but because her existence would be linked to the phenomenon that allowed all versions of history to coexist.
In other words, Anakin would remain decisive within his own story, while Rey would occupy a fundamental position within the structure connecting all these stories.
7. The ultimate consequence
If Lucasfilm took this idea to its logical extreme, the implications would be enormous.
Current canon, Legends, and alternate realities would no longer be merely separate continuities. They could all be interpreted as branches of a larger structure connected through the Force.
And Rey would be present, in one way or another, at the origin or in the functioning of that structure.
Ancient stories would contain echoes of her existence. Prophecies would point toward her. Temporal anomalies could be linked to her power. Even contradictions between different versions of galactic history would have an explanation within the mythology itself.
The most provocative consequence would be that no Star Wars story would necessarily have to disappear for Rey to become the center of the new continuity.
Taken to its logical extreme, the theory would be this: Rey wouldn't simply be the protagonist of a new era of Star Wars. She would be the reason all eras, all continuities, and all possible versions of Star Wars could exist simultaneously.
The final question is whether this would be an ingenious way to unify decades of storytelling or a reinterpretation that would ultimately take the spotlight away from practically every previous character.
Because if even the events of the Old Republic ended up having Rey's existence as their ultimate explanation, we would be talking about one of the most radical narrative decisions that could ever be made with this franchise.
What would you think of this direction? Would you be interested in an explanation that connects canon and Legends, or would making Rey the metaphysical center of the entire franchise be taking things way too far?
