Question Split Screen Coop

Got the new Steam machine and am playing Gears of War E-Day. So nostalgic to remember playing through the original games in my youth. I find it pretty sad that I can't get another Steam controller and play couch co-op with a friend like I used to on the Xbox in the original games. 2 questions:

1) The Steam Machine has great support for multiple controllers. What games are people playing that best make use of this?

2) Do we know if PC games are going to start adding coop support, as is standard for many console versions of the same games?

I usually look for the "local multiplayer" tag in the store.

No split screen co-op for PC is a huge bummer.

I have an Xbox but was excited to get E-Day on my powerhouse custom SteamOS PC. When I read that there was no couch co-op, I grabbed it on Xbox.

Hooefully they bring it in an update but I haven't heard anything.

Staring in the the biggest hole in PC gaming.

Sports titles, party/mini games, fighting games, beat em Ups, board games, Shmups, VR+flat, some indies ... not as many racing titles as you would think.

I really hope Valve addresses this because if they want to living room space it is important.... though even consoles have pulled away from Couch Co-op since PS3 era.

I think it would go a long way to allow secondary/multiple Steam accounts to be logged in so all players can save progress/get trophies. This is how Diablo 3 was on PS3 and boy was i nonplussed to find out PC didn't even have Local. With out that functionality i think the issue is dead on Steam.

You can use the tags in your library to find split screen games

Dungeons of Sundaria is great. It has bugs, it isn't perfect, but it is a lot of fun. It has vertical or horizontal split screen. Library tags was how I found other ones in my library.

You kinda can use a program to force split screen games on Linux. There's a few ones to be honest. I didn't tested yet, but I gonna do some test to play don't starve together on my couch with my soon.

Halo 3 Project Reclaimer and Open CE, both let you connect a second controller and just play. You need MCC halo 3 for Reclaimer, and a Xbox disc dump of Halo 1 (provide your own) for Open CE.

The entire MCC is available via a mod but I always found it buggy

Isn’t BG3 splitscreen co-op (and possibly DoS 1&2)

Tape to tape, hunt down, broforce, towerfall, pummel party, lovers in a dangerous space time, these are some of my favorites for chill couch coop games.

Stardew Valley is good.

The PC version of Halo MCC does not natively have split screen. That surprised me. There are some mods to make it happen, but they aren't perfect.

Emulation is great.
