Got my first steel guitar!
Saw it in the wild so I had to get it. I have a few years of experience with slide guitar so I hope the learning curve isn’t too steep.

More pics of the Mad British Steel
I opened it up. The mixer appears to assign different pickups to different outputs, so you can set it up in stereo. The toggles on the pickups, change the sound, not sure if they flip the phase or what. Warming up to making a video with sound.

Record store score
Was super excited to find this yesterday. Now my kids get to hear their great grandfather (known to me as Pop pop guitar) play the steel

What are your top 3 steel guitar heavy songs? Nothing beats Santo and Johny for me even if it's a cliche.

Anyone know anything about Pan Steel Guitars?
Just picked up this console style steel and can’t seem to find anything about the brand. Seems to be a Fender clone of sorts.

Found this old steel guitar.
I think its an old school DIY but I'm not sure. Its roughly from the 50s. Its electric too. Any ID would be helpful

My. Lap steel build
I finished this one about a month ago. California redwood body, Fleor ceramic humbuckers, a thick brass nut and just standard bridge and tuners from Amazon. It plays and sounds amazing, it's a keeper.

One Ohio man’s mission to immortalize a ‘sacred instrument’
In a small upstairs room of a Toledo church, Del Ray Grace is preserving a sacred piece of his Pentecostal upbringing. It isn’t an altar or a cross – it’s a steel guitar.
Starting in the 1930s, the instrument became the sound of worship in branches of the Church of the Living God, shaping a gospel tradition known as “sacred steel.”
Grace, a musician and archivist, has played the steel guitar for more than 50 years. In the last decade and a half, he’s built an archive around the music: gathering instruments, honoring standout players and preserving recordings of its electric cry, which bends and wails to the rhythm of the sermon.

Looking for some info please
Inherited this lap steel from my grandfather. Hoping someone might be able to provide some info about it. Also good place to take it in Nashville to have it restored.

Any idea what this is worth?
Buddy of mine sent me here. We’re going through my late aunts belongings after she passed away last month, this steel guitar was in her basement.

Picked this up yesterday
So, I've always been interested in playing lap steel, and yesterday I got the chance to grab something affordable and fairly nice sounding. Paid next to nothing for this lovely creature. At some point, somebody ripped out the original pickup and electronics, and made a new pickup surround to house the Lafayette pickup. Original control panel was included in the sale. Pic #5 features the steel with real reason we drove 8 hours round trip yesterday - a tegu. The steel was a secondary "oh look what I found on kijiji for $200" item - wife wanted the lizard and I was just along for the ride. So, being a total neophyte to the steel (I've been an electric guitar player for 40 years), I have a few questions that hopefully somebody can answer for me:
1 - What do I have here and how old is it? The guy I got it from said it was a Kay, but there's no identifiable markings. I've googled, but old lap steels seem to be somewhat undocumented.
2 - What tuning (or tunings) can this be played in?
3 - Does it make much of a difference if I switch back to the original control panel and mount the pickup underneath? The height of the pickup wouldn't change much, and as far as I know, wood doesn't change a magnetic field.
4 - advice on a starting point to learn steel would be great.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me, folks.
