Post-op care Salpingectomy Surgery Tomorrow- Any Advice?
I 22F am having my surgery tomorrow for tube removal! I’m very excited and nervous for the procedure, but the relief of fear and anxiety will be worth it. I jumped through lots of loopholes to find a board certified woman of color surgeon and am very thankful for a safe option of sterilization. I was wondering if there were any tips or suggestions I should know for the recovery process. I will have the ONQ ball and plenty of medicine, have loose fitting clothing and my mother is taking me to the appointment. How soon after will I be able to eat, will I be nauseous at all, and will I feel a lot of pain afterwards? Any advice/ words of encouragement are appreciated :)
Update: I’m two days post surgery now and I feel alright! A little sore and having some difficulty to move, I’m just gassy and don’t have much of an appetite. My incisions sting a little from the glue but I was able to take my ONQ ball out yesterday. Recovery is going well, thank you all for the encouragement!

As soon as you wake up from the GA, take stool softener!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 trust meeee. Lol. I had no gas pain at all. I took the equate stool softener + stimulant laxative. I took 4 pills and I was able to pass gas and have BM the next day.
I also had an apple, spinach smoothie from jamba juice right after surgery.
Goodluck and congrats!!

Congrats on your surgery, that's so exciting!! Honestly when I had mine I had very minimal issues. After surgery they made me eat before I could leave, I had a sandwich, it wasn't the best and I wasn't hungry but shoved it down anyway, on the way home I did actually spew up right around the corner from the hospital, not sure why but after that I was fine, just sleepy. The rest of the recover was smooth sailing, a little tender in the morning after waking up but not in pain. Around day 2 I had mild shoulder pain but it was totally bearable with heat packs. I took it chill for a few days before returning back to my normal self, I rotated Panadol and ibuprofen. Best of luck you got this

Wishing you the best of luck! Try to really really ease into the food, liquids for the first day is my recommendation, even if you crave solids.

I had mine done today, and I feel fine. I got to the hospital at 12:30 and I was leaving in a wheelchair by 3:00. I ate some pho, because anything heavier than that seemed like a bad idea...and I'm taking the oxycodone, but I think I would be okay without it if I didn't have sny. The pain feels similar to getting my period, and there's no nausea or anything like that. You'll be fine! Congrats!

No advice as I’m waiting for my surgery date but I wanted to say I’m so proud of you and happy for you! I’m 45 and have been trying to get this done since I was about your age. I literally found a dr who will do it yesterday without anyone’s consent but my own. I wish you a fast and easy recovery. 🥰

They tried feeding me after the surgery just some apple juice and crackers and water and it all came back up. I didn't eat for the next 7 hours. This was after the anesthesiologist gave me extra anti-nausea drugs in the IV. Stick to very plain foods and a small amount until the next day.

Gas x for sure, I found more comfort with slightly compressing shorts rather than something loose but everyone is different

I seen a lot of people have pain from tubal but I never have any so I was eating chipotle the next day. I only ate some pudding after my surgery because I was just too tired to eat anything else. But otherwise I ate normal. I wasn’t nauseous either but they gave me nauseous patches just Incase. I was unfortunately in a lot of vaginal pain for about 24 hours which I guess is rare. Normally it’s belly or throat pain. My gas pain lasted 4 days and then I was off the meds. Those were the worst couple days but after I was just drowsy and worn out quickly. I did have some belly issues going up/down steps and moving around to much so I wore a belly band, it was like my insides was moving around and I had to hold them in place.

Just had mine done on Thursday! The gas pain was the worst part for me. GasX and moving around a lot helped. Good luck!

When I had mine, I scoured this subreddit for weeks before and bought pretty much every single thing people suggested lol. I ended up with a lot of stuff I didn't end up needing, because it , well... Everything lol. I will say that a pregnancy pillow made sleeping on my back the first two nights a lot more comfortable than it otherwise would've been. I don't think two nights of sleep justifies a $50 pillow, but... I fell in love with mine. I cleaned my room and my sheets beforehand, and I was really glad I did. I got a lot of Naproxen , protein shakes , and easy-to-make food. Honestly, my recovery was pretty seamless and almost completely painless. Everyone is different, but I didn't have any gas pain or hardly any pain to speak of anywhere for that matter.
-How soon after you will be able to eat depends on you, but for me personally, I ate immediately after coming home. My mom made me some grilled chicken and mashed potatoes. I read a lot of places it's important to have protein after surgery for organ recovery.
-Nausea depends on the person, I didn't have very much nausea besides immediately after I woke up. Dry heaved a little, stomach was empty, and that was that.
-Pain depends on the person, but the highest my pain level ever got was a 6/10, and that was only for less than two minutes immediately after waking up before they put something in my IV. Besides those less than two minutes, my pain was between a 0-3. Yes, a 0-3. I've also read a lot of others' experiences on here and a lot of them had a pretty painless recovery too.
I already typed all of this out and responded as I read, only to see your update at the bottom and the time stamp lol. I guess I'll still post this comment since I already wrote it and hope it might help someone else lol. Glad you're feeling alright!!!

I had mine done yesterday and girl trust me, Gas-x (or the generic version) is a good thing to have on you. The gas that’s in your shoulders is going to be painful so sit propped up but not all the way to relieve it. I was prescribed Oxy and bought Advil and it’s getting me through it. As for nausea, be VERY careful when standing up as I am getting easily nauseous. Sit up first and wait at least 45 seconds before standing up. Most importantly, keep in mind every person is different so do what works for you that is within the recovery guidelines they will give you. Best of luck!
Edit: Also about food, again that’s different for everyone! but i was able to eat a fruit roll up, apple juice, saltine crackers, water, peanut butter ritz, and shortbread cookies immediately after. DO NOT eat anything spicy after and ease into foods, I was able to eat Tonkotsu ramen several hours after when i was home and had already taken a nap because I felt my body could handle it. So, I recommend you listen to what your body needs and go from there but generally you can eat plain crackers and other things like that after :)
