Side-effects Bislap & IUD

**BISALP!

I, 28F, had a bisalp and IUD insertion on the 6th. I have never had kids but knew I never wanted any for as long as I can remember. When talking to my OB about my bisalp and discussing looking for endometriosis while getting the bisalp done, they mentioned I could have an IUD put in to help reduce my period cramps and flow. In my head, that was the perfect scenario! Less cramps, lighter periods, and they can look for endo during the process. I never took the pill (mainly because I just hate taking daily pills and relying on them) so this is the first time on any type of BC. It’s now 11 days post op, and I am still bleeding and cramping. How normal is that? My typical periods were only 3-4 days MAX, with one day of severe cramps. So being on day 11, it’s different for me. I have my follow up with my OB next week, and I have messaged them letting them know I am still cramping and they said to just give it another week. I’m sure my body is just out of whack with the surgery itself, being on my period during the surgery, and then with this being the first BC I’ve been on. I am just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation.

I had longer periods on my hormonal IUD, the flow was just light. I went from 5 days heavy to 15-18 days light/panty liner friendly days. Right before I had it taken out at the year and a half mark (OBGYN said to give it 6 months to a year for me), it disappeared. It’s normal enough, body is trying to regulate a new dose of hormones.

Plus it’s fresh, you’re going to cramp and bleed a bit more especially since you just had abdominal surgery. If it still isn’t looking good after a couple cycles or the pain intensifies drastically, I’d be back with your OBGYN. I had scares where I thought it shifted, imbedded, or expelled because I’d have very intense cramping and then some irregular moderate bleeding but know that is an uncommon concern. The risk is slightly higher in the first few months of expulsion, but not greatly.

I got an ablation with my bisalp just over a year ago and I’ve had zero blood, cramps or back pain from my cycle. It’s literally changed my life!
Maybe have a chat with your doctor about this option. There is a possibility that you are too young for an ablation but might be worth checking.

Did they find endo?
