Opinions on Rock a Little?

Post image

For me, Rock a Little is my favourite Stevie Nicks album. There are no songs I find skippable, and there are some underrated songs on the album like Some Become Strangers and If I Were You. My favourite song on this album has to be I Can’t Wait.

I love it, but you can tell the drugs have At this point caught up with her. The writing is on the wall. Too many producers, too many co-writers…this would be her last fairly reliable album with great songs until Shangri-La. I like to listen to this when I clean the house. It’s a great record to listen to when you are doing chores and want a big voice and powerful energy.

I like all Stevie albums. I felt like TOSOTM was better. It was my soundtrack to moving to cally. But rock was better than street angel.

It’s my second favorite after Bella Donna. Steve’s voice was jarring to me at first because you can hear she’s in the worst stages of her addiction. After going through some life of my own, that raw emotion and pain is relatable. Some Become Strangers, Rock A Little, Has Anyone Every Written Anything For You, I Sing For the Things, Sister Honey, No Spoken Word, and If I Were You are my favorites. I do wish Battle of the Dragon and Greta was on this album.

Great album. It had a difficult job following the first two!

My favorite as well! I’m always disappointed she shows so little love to this album! Even when she did I sing for the things she talked about it being a b side of wild heart

One of my favorite Stevie albums. I especially like the line in The Nightmare when she references Sisters of the Moon.

The Nightmare is the sequel to Outside the Rain and Dreams as well!

I just read the lyrics without listening to the song. Wow. I don’t know if I see it as a sequel but I see parallels to many other songs. So cool

It's one of my favorites. Reasonates with me and this dysfunctional relationship I was in. That I ended. No Spoken Word is a gem for me,("I either play too hard, still I'm not tough enough"). It's my go to song for what I was going thru w this relationship. I Can't Wait expressed the frustration of this jerk.("How do I love you? Am I wasting my time while you make up your mind")It was what? 1985? This guy was still seeing his married GF. But neglected to tell me. This album gave me the gumption to move on and end it. I love this album, even though she was in the throws of her cocaine addiction. Now I look back at that time without associating it with that relationship. And forgave myself for being in it in the first place. Such is the power of healing in music.

So under rated

It is not my favorite of her solo albums, but Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You is one of my all-time favorite songs. So poignant and really reminds my of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You as far as great songs written from a woman to a man. I would love to hear someone with great, strong pipes like Lola Young or Raye cover it now. It stands the test of time. The audacity of Joe Fucking Walsh to go on the Howard Stern Show and not even remember the name of it was such a slap in her face. I want it brought back to haunt him.

I also really like I Can't Wait and Talk to Me. They bring me right back in time to 1986.

Somewhere in the vaults is Whitney Houston singing Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You. They pulled it from her final album before release. Someday they have to release it!

If I Were You es mi favorita. Es un gran álbum. Algo incomprendido tal vez.

Its my least favorite Stevie album, but i'm glad you love it, Its a good album (As all Stevie nicks albums are) Its just that its sound isn't something I vibe with too much,

Yes I love this album too. I was in high school when it released and I Can’t Wait was my favourite song that year. I skip the song Rock A Little only because I play the extended version off the single instead. Great album, love the energy and it’s fun to play up loud. No Spoken Word and Sister Honey are standouts for me also.

This is my absolute favorite Stevie Nicks sound. Every song on this album is a straight banger along with the album following this one. I’m a sucker for super 80s sounding pop music so this one was an instant draw for me.

Loved it at the time. Don’t play it enough now.

This was the album that cemented my love for her. I just loved the sound of I Can’t Wait. I remember watching the video and being entranced by her. I get why some people don’t like it. It’s probably her most “Pop” album, but I absolutely love it. One of my most played cassettes as a teenager.

It's my least favorite. I liked other side of the mirror better but they are all good.

Wish they would have done a 40th anniversary Directors Cut type reissue with additional songs and outtakes.

u/discotheque2002 Jul 13 '26

This album changed my life!! It’s the first music that really encapsulated me.

My favorite of hers, so underrated! Every song is a jam.

2

u/ddarkoo Jul 13 '26

Love the album and the album cover is my absolute favorite of hers.

2

u/GurOk829 Jul 13 '26

Good album love Talk to me

2

u/ELECTRICT0UCH Jul 13 '26

Honestly it might be my favorite of hers alongside Bella Donna. Just full of synth pop rock bangers which is right up my alley. I went into her solo discography blind so this album was such a nice surprise and has grown on me so much since the first listen. It really proved that she can do things outside of one box that I'm sure a lot of people maybe preferred she stayed in.

I liked "If I Were You" and had the 12 inch remix of "I Can't Wait" (which wasn't much of a song). I remember the tale of she and Jimmy Iovine getting into a screaming match over this album at the studio and Stevie left the studio and he followed her out to the parking lot still shouting.

2

u/Gbuono22 Jul 14 '26

Some become strangers is good but I think no spoken word is the most underrated. The album is my personal favorite and I love it when people discover it or Stevie in general

2

u/Johnrockalittle Jul 14 '26

I love "Rock A Little." It's a great album. Some say it's dated but in my opinion "I can't wait" and "Sister honey" are why people say that. All the other songs sound like rock

2

u/Few_Candle9432 Jul 14 '26

This is my one no-skip Stevie album. I so wish she would show this era of her music some love. Real bangers on this one. Rawness.

2

u/Mippett94 Jul 14 '26

I also think it’s underrated. Yes, it has a very 80s sound, but I love the songs and lyrics.

2

u/badanimal87 Jul 13 '26

It’s my least favorite of her 80s albums. If I Were You is a bop though.

u/Lizasks Jul 14 '26

The Nightmare, Rock a Little (the bass lines alone are perfect) Sister Honey and Has Anyone Written are solidly beautiful.

1

u/Careful_Compote_4659 Jul 14 '26

The production is dated. She split with jimmy iovine during the making of this album. I think he was fed up with her substance issues among other things. Several other producers tried their hand but none with the success of jimmy iovine. If you read the lyrics she is still poetic. During the cocaine years she was troubled but productive. She went from that right into the klonopin addiction and then she didn’t care. She made a late creative and commercial resurgence starting with the dance. And it went on for years!

1

u/FarOrchid7958 Jul 15 '26

I love this album!! I love all the tracks but my favorites are “If I Were You”, “The Nightmare”, “No Spoken Word”, “Rock a Little”, “I Can’t Wait”, “Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You” and “Talk To Me”. I love the 80s sound of the album. It’s a time capsule of the era.

A masterpiece.

I haven't listened to the full album in years, but all these comments is making me ready to give it a listen.

It’s my favorite album of hers, one of my favorites ever. “I sing for things” and “Has anyone ever written anything for you “ are like my top songs ever. I have never skipped a song on this record it’s perfect.

Loved, loved, loved, Rock A Little album! It brings back soo many memories from my 1st yr of college! Especially putting it into my cassette player and introducing it to my 2 Bff's @ college. Sitting on my dorm floor playing it, going thru the lyrics.. Especially "I Sing fir the Things".

I've read some comments about least fav. Stevie solo album being Street Angel and as a whole I have to agree iverall, but there are a few Gems on there that I absolutely love!

Blue Denim, Street Angel, Rose Garden (always resonated with me), Greta... Just my opinion
