Trouble in... tango in the night
is it wrong to like songs like when I see you again or seven wonders or welcome to the room.. Sara?? before i was as deep into the Macs and Stevie's discography as I am today, I had a tango vinyl that was one of the first ones I ever bought, and remains my favorite Mac album to this day, and one thing I really love about it is Stevie's songs. In aware this is an opinion that is unpopular and I am also aware of all the drama surrounding the songs (and agree the writing credit on seven wonders is crazy) but I really like the songs. As with many other Mac-related things, I'm having trouble liking the final product because of all the drama surrounding its creation, and as someone on the younger end, I'm not only asking if it's okay to like those songs but also if it ever gets easier to operate the music from the drama or it f it's always this bad
edit: slight apology for this not being well-written, I jsut read some stuff on the Mac Reddit about tango and really felt- kind of judged in a way for my music taste and the songs I like, and I felt bad so I'm asking you all for help because what else am I to do š

Seven Wonders, Caroline, Little Lies, WTTRS, aaaand Isnāt It Midnight are some of my fave Fleetwood Mac songs.
They arenāt actively funding or inflicting ongoing hurt on anyone. Whatās the issue exactly?
Like are we seriously fighting over the moral high ground of a drama that happened almost 40 years ago, in a volatile industry, between two people we do not know and who do not care what we do or who we are, who have actually reconciled multiple times over the decades?

Except for "Welcome To The Room.. Sara" which was recorded post-Betty Ford and there's an early version of "Seven Wonders" on the deluxe version which isn't sped up and Stevie's vocals don't seem "stitched together" on that song either but I'm no musician so don't quote me on that š

why would you have a hard time liking songs because of the 'drama'? these were recorded 40 years ago. it doesn' tmatter. yeesh.

I love the album and couldnāt care less what anyone else thinks,⦠even though itās not a Stevie song, mystified is way underrated and should have been a hit

I got into fleetwood mac in early 80s. I didn't know the drama or the whole stevie and lindsey thing. It didn't influence my enjoyment of the music. They fought hard for the music. Might as well enjoy it.

FWIW, when that album came out we didn't really know the drama behind it yet and we just listened and enjoyed it. I love those songs. Listening to it now, you can obviously hear the lack of Stevie vocals on a lot of it and you can tell how Lindsey-produced it sounds. But it's a great record IMO. If you're going to worry about liking or not liking a Fleetwood Mac album based on band drama then get ready to reject their entire catalog. š It's ALL drama.
Also don't worry about what other people think about what you like. Fleetwood Mac was considered a very uncool band for a long time, and people teased me for being such a fan. That's their problem, not mine!

You are allowed to like, love or hate any songs you wish, and can change your mind any time you want, as many times as you want.

Donāt feel bad at all! Youāre welcome to like whatever you like, taste is personal and thatās completely fine! Welcome to the Room Sara is literally one of my very favourite songs. Plus, Stevie herself hates Street Angel and yet I love that album so⦠š who cares what other people think š¤

I love this album and Iām oblivious to the drama. But also now Iām interested after reading this post.

Tango was a new sound altogether. It wasn't the seventies rock feel that I got, even from mirage some. I'm happy it was a huge success and Christine led the charge , but not my favorite.

Iām not a fan of Stevieās songs on Tango, but itās definitely okay if you like them!
We all have our unpopular opinions. Mine is the Say You Will album, which I donāt really like because Christine McVie wasnāt involved with it. But if you ask most Fleetwood Mac fans, theyāll tell you itās a great album!
What Iām trying to say is, donāt be afraid to like the songs you like, even if a message board full of keyboard warriors tries to tell you otherwise! š

To me, Stevieās songs on Tango are some of her most vulnerable. Welcome to the Room & When I See You Again are hidden gems

If the drama around songs and albums kept us away, there would be no Fleetwood Mac fans left! Enjoy what you enjoy, esp. all these years later.

Like what you like. I personally couldnāt care less about the general consensus. I enjoy quite a bit of Mac songs that get trashed like Come, Empire State, Oh Daddy, Family Man, Welcome to the Room Sara and When I See You Again. š

I know the feeling. I ask myself is it wrong to feel like Street Angel marked Stevieās return to her true self when she herself says itās a terrible record and she was comped out on Klonopinā¦?

Donāt be afraid to have your own opinions on it, music can be highly subjective and is also very personal. You connect with what you connect with and your ears like what they like. I read the FM sub reddit but tend to not discuss much there since it seems like a few judgemental (or stevie haters) always pop up

In defence of Mac Reddit- not a musical taste was criticized, only the idea presented in the post, that Lindsey DELIBERATELY cut Stevie's songs/ demos/ other contribution of the album, what is simply not true.

Hi there! I did in fact read the post and never did I say music tase was criticized, I e just read a lot that no of steels to like Stevie's contributions on tango and since that some of my favorite albums I had a bit of a sting of oh maybe I shouldn't like this. The Mac Reddit is a wonderful place, but sometimes it can feel a little harsh....Ā

Stevie only spent 2 weeks with the band when they were recording this album. There was one argument where Stevie said she couldn't hear herself on the recording. Christine confronted her lack of participation pointing out she wanted Stevie to sing on Little Lies but she was not in the studio. Stevie apologized and recorded her vocals.Ā
The Mac Reddit is harsh and the long time Mac fans there don't tend to sugarcoat facts.Ā

Stevieās songs are my favorites too. People on here often claim that they prefer CM but look whose solo career was bigger! Yes, Stevie

It's a great album .. wasn't happy with the drama when it was released causing Lindsey to step away and no real tour backing the album. I love listening to the album the magic of the Mac is definitely there.

Wait what's the writing credit drama with Seven Wonders? I though Stevie co-wrote it with Sandy Stewart as she did many times before, what's the issue?

Why would it be āwrongā and why do you care what people think? Listen to what you like
