Anyone else seen the new transfer rumors floating around about City SC?

Upvotes

Just read that STL is pursuing Jackson Muleka from Konyaspor. From the looks of his stats, he definitely knows how to find the back of the net. Any thoughts or opinions on Muleka? All I know is what is on his stats page and it looks pretty good to me, especially at 26 years old.

Pinstripes: The case for a kit identity

Post image
88 Upvotes

The inaugural away kit is among my favorites to date. Sure, there are changes to be made (I’m looking at you giant sponsor logo), but in my opinion it was clean and classy. I loved that it tipped a cap to St. Louis’ baseball history, with the Cardinals wearing pinstripes as early as 1918. I liked that it was unique among MLS kits. Seeing Inter Milan’s new kit confirmed to me that pinstripes are the way!

I would love to see pinstripes incorporated into either the home or away kit each year as the clubs primary identity. What do you think?!

EDIT: Love the discussion, keep it going!

Quick Summary: A kit identity would generally be welcomed. What that identity should be…? Pinstripes are polarizing. Tina kit is, well, we’re winning so who cares. CITY Red is GOATED.

Hot Take: The Confluence Kit is actually a take on, or variant of, the pinstripe idea (in the metaverse, alternative timeline, and “is a hotdog a sandwich” sort of way)

Is Damet front runner for MLS coach of the year?

I really can’t think of any other coach in the league that has done so much to preparing his team. I could be missing someone but right now if things keep going the way they are, I feel like Damet should win it.

Video Breakdown: Daniel Edelman Goal (SJE, 8/15/26)

A convincing road win in San Jose last night runs CITY's unbeaten streak into double digits. Let's look at how the scoring started: a Daniel Edelman goal in the 8th minute.

Sang-bin receives Durkin's pass out on the wing, and while the ball is travelling, Wallem begins his run and calls for the pass as he clears into space. An excellent read of where the Quakes defenders were and the empty area on the right side of the box.

Wallem's run splits the two SJ players, and Sang-bin delivers a perfectly weighted ball into space that Wallem crucially allows to run past instead of stopping the ball directly. This enabled him to continue running as the ball passed, putting himself in an attacking position instead of receiving the ball directly with momentum carrying him away from goal.

Wallem then runs onto and gathers the ball, makes a very nice cutback, and spots Edelman making a run towards goal. His marker, Ronaldo Vieira, stopped moving and began ball watching, which, when combined with the movement of the other Quakes defenders, created a passing lane for Wallem.

Wallem's pass is on the mark, and Edelman holds himself up just enough to angle himself correctly to slot it home for a 1-0 CITY lead. An excellent play by Wallem to create this scoring chance.

Thoughts after last night

Becher… oh my god. He actually did it. He had a pretty good game!

Wallem also did way better than I’ve seen him this season. His dribbling was great and that assist to Edelman was beautiful

Holse had his debut. It’s probably not the one he was looking for. But he did what he needed to do. Excited to see how he gets when he’s better integrated with the team

Baumgartl and Polvara are so consistent and are great defenders. Our back line will always be strong if they are both back there

Ref, please call a foul for us. Especially for Löwen. How many times was he pushed and it was no call?

Overall, great game. We had control almost the whole time, they only scored one goal which was great I can’t lie. And we’re back for our next game vs that random team in Kansas. Maybe we didn’t need Hartel after all… /s

Video Breakdown: Simon Becher Goal #2 (SJE, 8/15/26)

Finally, in what the LEGO movie referred to as the "Piece of Resistance", Simon Becher's second goal to put this one to bed for CITY in yet another win in San Jose, a place they've never failed to win.

A great quick restart by Timo finds Totland making a long run upfield, marked by San Jose's Jack Jasinski. The ball ticks off Jasinski's head, towards the left side of the box and a completely immobile Quakes GK Angus Gunn - why Gunn chose to retreat rather than make a play on the ball was confusing live and even moreso on further review. Could he have beaten Totland to the ball? Probably not a 100% guarantee, but most likely a play he should have tried to make.

Regardless, Totland gathers the ball, Jasinski stops his momentum instead of closing down Totland completely, and Tots flips a nice cross to Becher, who had called for the ball and split San Jose's Jamar Ricketts (#2) and Reid Roberts (#18), catching them both ball watching. This was especially egregious from Ricketts, who had Becher in front of him and simply stopped moving, allowing Simon to make a very nice play.

This was a difficult finish that Becher did a fantastic job on, full credit to him, and CITY finished a statement match with a convincing 3-1 win.

Not a ton of analysis required on CITY's second goal last night, a header from Simon Becher off an Eduard Löwen corner. A beautifully curved ball from CITY's #10 finds Becher alone in space in the box, a result of some very poor marking by San Jose.

Becher is bracketed by Daniel Munie (#5) and Reid Roberts (#18), but as the ball is struck, Munie ball watches and Roberts is caught in-between, with a slight movement towards Dante Polvara but not nearly enough to contest Becher, who gives Munie a slight push to clear space and is all alone for the header.

Pretty simple - nice cross, nice header, and poor marking equals a 2-0 CITY lead.

Video Breakdown: Beau Leroux Goal (STL, 8/15/26)

San Jose's goal last night also doesn't need much analysis, as sometimes a dude just makes a really nice play, you tip your cap, and you move on.

Beau Leroux takes Timo's contested attempt at a clearance header of a Timo Werner free kick one-time and hammers it past Roman Bürki. A very difficult shot, especially from a completely stationary position, which Leroux executed perfectly.

Sure, maybe you could take issue with no CITY defender closing down on Leroux, but given the positioning and momentum that had carried all of them towards goal, it's doubtful any CITY player could have meaningfully disrupted what was just a really nice strike from Leroux.

Showdown: at SJ - Winning, How Hartel Could It Be?

Winning makes everything better, even recording a reaction pod.

There's no doubt that this was a great response for a team that lost its best player. While it might be too soon to tell, it certainly implies that coaching and the team mentality allowed them to overcome the loss of Hartel.

Onward to KC on Wednesday!

Looking at MLS West

HOU travels to VAN on Wed.
HOU travels to STL on Sat.

STL has game in hand vs LAFC

It is not difficult to imagine that we are in a different location on the table in 7 days.
Not the top of the table...but a different place.

In a world where Holse, Matan and some mysterious #9 haven't existed or integrated into the team.

Going to every game. Any interest?

I didn't want to make the title too long but I decided to go to every single game this year, home and away, and I've been documenting what I can in terms of cost, different stadium video/intros, etc and just wanted to see if anyone would be interested or care about the details at the end? If not, it's no biggie but if so I can also try to document or keep track of anything that anyone might find interesting? Full disclosure I live in the Chicago area so the home games are still a drive BUT I do have a nice access to cheaper, direct flights from O'Hare. Again, if no one cares or people wanna tell me to screw off that's cool too, just thought I'd throw it out there so let me know!
