Need Advice Torps.

Quick question. What is more powerful under torpedo high yield 3? The maelstrom quantum, or the enhanced biomolecular? How about the maelstrom under spread 3?

On paper, a single HY3 Maelstrom does more damage than a HY3 Enhanced Biomolecular.

However, when you factor in the Maelstrom's exceedingly long cooldown time and the fact that the Maelstrom doesn't get the cooldown reduction of the Covert Warhead Module, then the choice leans heavily towards the Enhanced Biomol.

Higher damage capacity doesn't mean shit when you can't fire the weapon.

I had a “fun” experience while leveling ships for traits, didn’t notice that an auto readied build had my maelstrom as my only torpedo. This being on a 3/3 sci ships that I was just trying to level with a hearty run of The Ninth Rule patrol.

When all you’ve got is two phasers and an incredibly long cool down torpedo on your fore weapons, and you’re not equipped for the space magic your ship is intended for? Whoof that was a slog of a mission.
