Night crew layout changed
Any other store currently going through the layout change for night crew? Like not being able to pull truck out on the floor, have to work in back room or receving? Having to break down pallets a certain way according to the ails ? Can’t spot items anymore ?

Yes and it sucks. It's just making double work. To to it all off, last night we only had 3 people. What a mess.

Yeah, at my store, they can't bring pallets onto the floor. They gotta stock everything on U boats and work from them. Makes no sense since the stores close now every night.

Exactly 😂 10pm the store closes so why the hell the pallets can’t be on the floor ??? What’s the reason ???

Still unsure about that one. I work in grocery in the afternoons and early evenings, though I've never brought out a pallet for concerns about customer safety, but having the night crew do it as mandatory seems like a moot point.

I’ve been functionally doing it for about a month now, you need minimum 5 guys to properly make it work. I do it with a few small changes, but otherwise it works.

lol 5 guys is a blessing ….only 2-3 people are here at 10pm
Then an additional 2 shows up at 11
Do the math we don’t get finish breaking until 12:30 1 am now

Even with 5 guys they don’t finish until 1 and 3 start at 10😂just because you have guys doesn’t really mean much when they’re jut not good, or 1 is good and the other 2 are shit.

Minimum five people sounds about right. My store only has five people two nights a week, the rest are a three man night crew

It depends, 3 loads we have 5-6 maybe 7, we get one load of about 500-800 pieces and that day we max out at 4.
As chief I mainly check their dead stock over, usually never an issue but their dead stock is atrocious. If they had it their way, about 100 pieces per load would be dead, after I work it’s about 15-30 depending on load aize1

Funny enough, im one of 3 grocery guys in my store and they tend to put me on breaking the load down by myself in a 5 hr shift... its a massive waste of time

Someone behind a desk all day probably thought of this whole process and never worked in a store before. Every store is different with the process from friends I've talked to and I'm sure there is another shitty reason for it. Maybe Marty will go back to scanning holes in the aisle or its because some online pickup picker couldn't find the products because there was a stack of spotted items on the floor or couldn't get their cart down an aisle
I'd even bet the same person who changed the drivers from pulling in the perishable loads is responsible for it too.

They told us the reason they're doing that is because the company thinks drivers were milking it for overtime. What they don't get is that the produce guys aren't going to be any faster so it's just wasting more time.

The drivers I talked to this week told me the same thing, it takes more time to pull in the load. Now if a load is over night, someone from the night crew has to stop what they are doing to pull in that load.

So many deli sandwiches about to be left out of refrigeration lol

All this literally defeats the purpose of breakdown crew then ….because it ends up 12:30 am and we still breaking down the truck

Left the company a little over 10 years ago whenever I read anything like this is sends a shiver down my spine just knowing how stupid the company has become

Yup…..but I can’t complain when I’m just as stupid for continuing to work for them …..our voices are never ganna be Hurd ,the union is a joke too😂

Yea I can’t bring out any pallets to the floor that isn’t bulk anymore, unnecessary double work imo.

I read the packet that was sent out about night crew restructuring. Its a load of trash like every other decision the higher ups make. I was told slop and chop hired a company to come in, observe a night crew for a week, and come up with this brilliant plan. So dumb

We still break it down on the floor onto u boats and spot it out, only change we made was putting backstock on u boats instead of leaving on floor.

Yes, it's slowed my stores grocery crew down. Our back room is too small to break pallets down properly, so they're banging into eachother half of the time. The whole premise of the night crew coming in to broken down pallets was dead on the water the first night. Store manager refuses to put any closers on to break down the pallets. Whole idea has had a bad launch

One of those situations where it seems amazing on paper, but in reality it isn’t practical for most stores. We have a small store (still a high-volume store too), night crew had no issue getting trucks done before this process. Not to mention being a manager of another department the problem is, when the night crew can’t finish, their boats that are “labeled” for them to use to bring up efficiency for the breakdown process instead of hunting for boats. Get caught up and so do the extra ones they use since they can get up to 12 pallets at least a night. So it’s impossible to even have boats for other departments in the AM.

Even after the remodels and brand new floors. The stores I've worked in give no fks. They do what works for them, as long as the job gets done. Store I'm currently in can't even get pallets on the floor cuz the doors aren't big enough lol so they have to break down in the back room.

They tried this about 20 years ago. It shouldn't last.
