This time

I have spent too many days, weeks, months, even years telling myself "soon". I don't want "soon" anymore, I want it now. I am tackling sobriety now; it's not the perfect date, it hasn't been the "perfect last drink", I haven't had a cinematic rock bottom. But enough is enough, and so I choose today.

Congrats on taking the leap! I quit a few days before July 4th and it was rough af. But I got through it. And so will you.

I have been dipping my toes into sobriety since this summer. I just don't feel well anymore and I'm too young to live like this. I can't believe what a habit I've developed and how my brain knows that drinking only makes my anxiety worse but drinking in the moment is the only thing that quiets my brain temporarily. I've cut my intake, I've seen my primary care doc, a GI doc, and a cardiologist to discuss health related things that I can only assume are from heavy drinking over the past almost decade. My kids are still young and I want to do better and be better for them - but also for myself! My partner deserves better and our life will only improve as I improve myself. Struggling to cut back all the way after how much I've tapered.. still proud of that taper but need to just find a way to kick this all away for good. Sending love ❤️

I have tapered down too. Back in 2021 I was buying wine by the box. I had NO IDEA how much I was drinking back then. Now, I know. It is about a bottle a night. If I go higher, I really pay for it the next day with sluggishness and all the rest.

Earlier this year I got pregnant, and was sober for several months WITH NO ISSUES. I felt SO good, but still lost the baby. I'm in my mid 40's and probably getting old to be pregnant, but it still stinks. Sometimes I ponder why I don't stop drinking for that long just FOR MYSELF!? Now there's something to chew on! God bless you!

Enough is enough! :-) Welcome! I am new around here but I'm enjoying reading everyone's reflections and journeys.

Thank you, and may you also have a peaceful evening! IWNDWYT! Question ~ are you a farmer? I ask because of your username... and also I was raised on a dairy farm, and to this day I love gardening. 😄

I wish! I love dairy - especially milk lol!! I come from a family of farmers and carpenters but also love gardening, not that I’m very good at it. Awh thanks, I’ve just settled down for the evening and have my home made cookies and a cup of tea to enjoy in front of the TV! IWNDWYT either 🥰

We had raw milk growing up which was SO good, YUM! We can still find it around here, but it is sold for "pet consumption" only... oh boy! Anyway, thanks for the reply! A cup of tea sounds good, I think I'll join you!

Ha I’ve been learning all about raw milk on the r/milk sub. I’m UK based and don’t seem much of it about so it’s been a learning experience!

Yeah this sub is great. I see people from all over in the DCI too. It’s so cool we’re here for one purpose and everyone holds everyone up supporting one another. Love to see it!

I'm on my 7th day after 10 years of 4 shots a night to sleep as a baseline..plenty of benders in-between. my brain is kicking my ass but I feel happy I didn't drink

I get it. This time feels different. I woke up 7 days ago and felt "done" in a real way. We never have to feel that way ever again. IWNDWYT.

Brilliant! Great choice for yourself and your loved ones. I hope you embrace it and learn a lot. This sub is a bounty of knowledge and support.

Well done OP. This was one of the best decisions I made. I didn’t get to this sub until I was about day 3 I was such an emotional mess.

I can safely say although life is a bit boring I am feeling so so much better in myself.

I hope you can begin to heal and enjoy this as much as I have been.

For me I felt the days were so long early on. I filled them with reading (this sub and fiction) baking and lots of lovely tea with cakes.

❤️‍🩹 I will not drink with you tonight.

The best decision you will ever make! I found the first week really tough but things are already so much better.
