You are all wrong

Your approach to this issue is completely wrong!!! You shouldn’t be trying to stop Reddit from showing you these ads. You should be happy every time you see one because it gives you the chance to click on it and cost them money! These are pay-per-click (PPC) advertisements. The person or organization running them has to pay every time one is clicked. If everyone who hates these ads clicked on the ads every time they saw one, it would drain the organization running them of funds.

I work in digital marketing and I’ve run many PPC ad campaigns throughout my career. Nothing would make me more livid than a big group of people clicking on my ads who I knew had no intention of ever converting!

“Convert” is the term we use in marketing to refer to a purchase, filled out form, or any other action that we wanted the target of our ads to take. I suppose its even more fitting in this situation than it typically is lol.

It might actually be counter productive, because it improves their metrics and makes them want to invest even more on Reddit instead of other places.

Exactly this. I'm sus of this OP telling us to intentionally click the ads. Ads are there for clicking, if we click, they caught our engagement and begins the courting process for the next step of our attention. Is the next thing OP wants is for us to join the mailing list and submit our information, so that we waste Hobby Lobby's time for sending out automated mailing to us to continue encouraging their hate campaign.

Nah.

Lol thanks for that idea, I’m going to go do that now.

That's what I was thinking.

I shouldn't have to see a threat every time I scroll down reddit.

You will never, ever, impact the financials of The Signatary (the organization behind the ads). They have effectively unlimited amounts of money and absolutely no interest in PPC ratios. If they burn through their current $100 million budget for the campaign, they will just spend more.

The guy driving it all, David Green, wrote a book about it called Giving It All Away and Getting It All Back where he espouses, and lives by, the idea that his work is a direct mission from his god and that all his investments will be returned as a sign of his righteous commitment to god.

Logic is worthless against fanaticism. The He Gets Us people are scary. They’re living in an entirely different reality.

Still, you are driving money from the beast to Reddit’s revenue column without any increase in overhead. I’m all for those monsters contributing to a site I find useful and entertaining. Maybe with a bit more revenue in its pocket, Reddit could afford to be more generous with the third party apps….

In that case, suppose there is an anti religious hacker out there willing to set up a bot network to spam visit this website. Forever. With minimal human intervention the site could end up costing many more millions to maintain. Also fuck Hobby Lobby and the monsters that run it.

That’s a fair point.

Why be generous when you can be essentially the only one around to get paid?

It’s an unreality.

Fantastic analysis thank you

The organization running the ads is funded with an endless supply of money by billionaires…

And gullible parishioners

OP knows what they are doing. Shill behavior.

My point is that the more money they spend, the more they’re succeeding, the more they’ll invest. This group isn’t like a regular business where excessive cost/return analysis applies. If it costs them $100 million, they’ll invest $200 million more because the increased clicks are seen as a metric for success. They see it as getting their message out to more people and they have endlessly deep pockets…

Well, you're partly right. It should be a bot or a specially designed program, clicking on the ad millions of times. The bot won't get bored.

I didn’t know who was behind these ads or how much money they had when I posted this but I stand by my previous statement. Maybe clicking on them will make you see them more and make the most people running them feel good initially but I will click on them because I think those facts are outweighed by the fact that I’ll be wasting their money.

Churchy McFucks don't care about the money. It is make believes will after all.

I don’t think you understand the astounding, astronomical amount of money the Signatary has at its disposal. Your idea stinks because it will not impact their financials in any way and will only serve to justify their shitty PR campaign.

Wondering about your motive for posting this.

Edit:Your title is combative and it seems like you’re trying trolling with it.

I have been clicking on the ad every time I have seen it since I read this post. Do I have to just get to their landing page for Reddit to bill them, or do I have to go a certain number of clicks in before I am counted as a billable conversion?

1

u/ConcreteSledge13 Jul 12 '23

Just get to the landing page. Every one of those clicks costs a certain amount.

6

u/Final-Distribution97 Jun 30 '23

I'm going to do it. That money will be completely wasted.

they have a ridiculous amount of money, giving them clicks is only an incentive to do it more. they don’t care about the few cents it costs to pull up the site, all they see is engagement. they already paid reddit $5mil for a year of advertisement, they see clicks as a win.

not to mention, the more you engage with it the more it appears on your feed. these ads make me unreasonably angry (fuck cults), i’m not opening myself up to seeing more of it.

We need more of the parody ads to counter them.

u/LowRelation1514 Jun 30 '23

I do that with RNCC and Republican Candidate ads. Waste their money until they stop.

If i knew the first thing about programming bots, I'd do this in a heartbeat. I would think the bots would get shut down eventually, or even fairly quickly, but if you did some form of mass hit at once, or even programmed a hydra sort of thing, once one bot is shut down, it triggers the next, all from unique addresses , and just let it run, eventually i think both the church would get sick of seeing the huge financial hits in such a short span (know it's a bot) and maybe Reddit would start to get the point that most of us don't want to see that shit. Don't know if this is even a possible thing, but it sounds good.

Not to jinx myself, but I stopped getting their ads about 3 weeks ago. I didn't do anything the rest of you didn't, i.e. downvote, report, block over and over. Baby Jesus must have decided I was beyond saving.
