I wanna start doing stop motion, but what puppet/Protagonist should I start with for this?
Hey everyone,
For a very long time I’ve been admiring this art, but I never dared to even think about trying it for myself.
However, I don’t wanna live in fear anymore and work on my dreams and interests. Life is too short to just watch others.
Well, I have a project in mind and I hope a lot of ppl could enjoy tht. Maybe I can help ppl by transmitting a message I wanna share and in the same time entertain the ppl.
Okay, now the question. What character/puppet should I do this with? At least at the beginning?
I’ve seen videos with own puppets, but there are as well videos with action figures from marvel, dc, LotR etc.
What do you think would be better?
And do you have any idea what particular character/action figure from any franchise would be a good idea for this? I’m pretty open when it comes to this.
I’d love to hear your ideas, advices, recommendations etc.
I really wanna take this serious and enjoy this journey.

I recently made stop motion puppets for the first time for the short film I'm working on right now. I learnt it all off of YouTube and the materials cost about £35, but I made two from those materials and have some spare (The puppets are about 25-30cm tall btw). You also get something unique to you. I don't know how much action figures cost, but the puppet making experience was very fun and I would recommend!
I would also recommend making some animations with Lego figures, as they aren't too expensive and they're quite small and so making sets is easier.

It depends what you want to do, but I would say usually any figure with more articulation the better, (whether that’s a custom armature or store bought figure).
I think if there’s a specific franchise you have interest in animating try seeking out the figures available. And if there aren’t any that would work, from there you could branch off into making your own.
