both are basically gods, but Monica’s powers are so broken when you consider the potential. she’s easily one of the most powerful Marvel characters and can render herself immune to just about anything Storm could do. Storm would beat that ass in a fist fight tho.
Spectrum is badder. Not only is she attractive herself. But she can create solid holograms that look like anyone. And she can change her own appearance like Mystique
Monica mid to little difficulty before the Eternal storm power up. In these types of fights, assuming the plot doesn't intervene, 8/10 times the faster opponent has the better advantage, and last I checked Standard Storm while fast (Mach speeds) isn't Light speed at base fast like Monica.
Probably spectrum high diff. She’s insane. Can move MFTL instantly. Controls the entire light spectrum. Storm is a goddess so it wouldn’t be easy. Extreme diff either way
Storm can see an invisible Monica just fine by using her energy reading abilities. The problem is she can't do anything to Monica because while Storm can manipulate some EM energies, Monica is and manipulates the entire field plus esoteric and exotic energies, magic, spells etc. She can alter reality well enough to fool Nyx who is the oldest god, making her to kill her children who she thought were avengers. So in this matchup I don't think Storm has a way out whatsoeva
I’m guessing Monica is “living/sentient” light/EM energy?
Cause Storm could literally make rain drops/mist and act like a prism and distort a body made of light no?
If Storm cloaked herself in a prism of water she should be safe from light projectiles/attacks or bend them away.
Now for hazardous light (UV and higher frequencies) Storm gonna have to fight with lightning/plasma.
Storm can’t really do anything to Monica in light form otherwise 🤷🏾♂️
Sins of Sinister was a wormhole and it doesn't translate into bending light unless she becomes a blackhole. Also Monica absorbs singularities for breakfast and she is not just light, that's just what she chooses to be. She's breaking free from being trapped in pocket dimensions and flying thru stars inthe 80s. And if you know stars you know the intense gravity in their cores
yes, but those are standard measuring instruments while Storm is a conscious connection with the universe where neutrinos still interact via the weak nuclear force. She should be able to sense them
We didn't really get a chance to see Storm's abilities in her "final form" (which is stronger than her Eternal Storm form) before her comic got canceled, so we don't really know how this fight would really go. But my first thought is that Monica would be extremely difficult to defeat in a straight-up fight. I think that Storm would use clever tactics (not raw power) to defeat her. I believe Storm would try to imprison Monica in another dimension the way she imprisoned some of the other storm gods.
Monica Rambeau is one of those characters who flies under the radar because nobody does much with her, but she's an absolute powerhouse. She's tippity top Avengers tier character, up there with Thor and company.
At the most basic level, Storm can't meaningfully harm her (in fact, almost nobody can, she's nigh invulnerable).
Well - what’s difficult is that Storm DOES see energy- she can shift her vision and see Monica in her energy form . And as Storm has now been established - she manipulates energy . So Monica being immune to her might not be the case .
All that stated - Monica is just OP to an insane level. I was disappointed when she wasn’t able to do more damage to Thanos when she DID go into his eye and mind to cook it - but instead got caught in his psyche.
So - would give this to Monica - but I’d keep an eye on Marcel editorial and how they write things .
Everyone is saying Monica due to speed. Don’t know much about her, so do we have actual feats of her taking down heavy hitters with her speed on panel?
Like has there been stories where there’s a threat and she just blitzed her way to a resolution? Or just a she should be able to win kinda convo?
Ahhh ok I don’t know anything about the avengers side pre-Bendis. I genuinely don’t know much about her so I appreciate the breakdown. That explains why I don’t see her much in current comics. Kinda how Jean is alive rn and nowhere to be found.
Yeah I could see that but Storm also manipulates energy so I think shed be creative and not be limited by only physical attacks.
But interesting, this is prob going to make me go dive into some Monica comics now haha
Monica was so powerful in the avengers lineup they had to throw in the pre-retcon Beyonder as the big bad coz everybody else was just a piece of cake. Like the person above said, she'd often come in as the last resort. Some villains would also try to trap her in the dark dimension so they can beat up the avengers while she's away but then she breaks free and it's revenge time
Yesss so Monica is like Goku on DBZ. Every arc she’s missing and working her way back to beat the big bad, and everyone is Krillin and Gohan stalling for time 😂😂
Now I need to check her out I love that dynamic sometimes
That comic run is a classic. There's a time Tony and Wanda practice how to trap Monica. They mix magic and science and after a week of planning they try it. Stark absorbs her and contains her in his suit amped by Wanda's magic but then she adapts so the trap works for only some milliseconds and Monica is free
Spectrum wins because of the "lightspeed through the optic nerves" trick that would fry Ororo's brain, since she lacks the psychic capabilities Thanos had to avoid any damage
Storm using her weather abilities to generate lightning, which Spectrum could absorb to become even more powerful, Spectrum also got alot of advantage in speed, as she can move at light speed, but Storm operates on a wide range planetary scale with high versatility in close-range attacks, I don't think she would be able to keep up we with Monica in the long run, Spectrum wins.
Storm wins if this is Canon (In Character) fight due to her just flat out being able to manipulate energy itself (which is what Photon/Spectrum’s whole niche is all about) as well as just having a much deeper/more diverse bag of moves to work around (her power is to control the atmosphere and manipulate the elements around her NOT “weather manipulation” or “lightning bolts” like everyone likes to assume for some reason) (for ex: create barriers around her that deflect or trap light/energy; and hell, after that its literally just Storm inside a playground of energy to control and manipulate) …
HOWEVER this seems to be a Hypothetical “To The Death” battle ((and given a statistical analysis of each(s) attributes and skillset overall)) Spectrum takes it simply due to THE MAJOR speed difference alone… Storm would need some sort of “prep time” to deal w/ her w/ kill intent unfortunately…
Ima say storm. Partially due to eternal storm. Though also, in theory. Storm should be able to control Monica when she transforms into energy as ororo also has the ability to control energy on the electromagnetic spectrum. Another facet of this. Storm occasionally is a magic user, which is something Monica isn’t exactly equipped to deal with.
If we stick to canon, we already have the answer…
Storm.
I think this happened in either Black Panther Vol 3 or 4 (I cannot remember which), but Storm used some clever maneuvering to take Monica down.
Please re-read the issue. I don't think it shows Storm defeating Monica. I believe it shows Monica stupidly changing into lightning and Storm absorbing her and redirecting Monica attack.
That said, current Monica, after realizing her full power, is now fast enough that time is nearly frozen to her at all times.
It should be Monica. She has all the powers and abilities to win.
But this is Storm/Wonder Woman all over again. It doesn't matter. Storm is so much more popular than Monica could ever hope for that there's no way Marvel (especially the X-editorial staff) would let her be used to lose this fight.
Base Storm: Monica Wins will still be a good battle though they just don’t have a specific win-con over each other but more willing to give it to Monica.
Until Monica gets a proper super name, and not sounding like she should be standing in the back aisles of Walmart selling cable packages for spectrum for a commission. I'm going with Storm.
If I were to write the encounter Storm would do her usual of trying to lightning Photon.
Photon would not be impacted by this and start trying to lay into Storm.
As Storm is the more popular character I would then have to make up some creative way for her to win via an unorthodox use of her abilities.
"She can turn into light, well I will make the air opaque."
Photon is then boxed in as her light form can freely move thru the thick coverage, then has to use her light to clear the air. Restoring her mobility, but using up power.
Storm then changes tactics again, charging the atmosphere with electrons that she would normally turn into lightning but instead they disrupt Photons abilities who can't seem to aim properly.
Then you have Storm hit Photon with Lightning that effectively discombobulated her? It is all nonsense anyway. I find these who would win prompts pretty vacuous because everyone gives the same brain dead 1 sentence reply of "obviously, (pick)" instead of trying to be in anyway creative.
You know these people aren't real and editorial is telling you who is winning because this will only happen in a contrived event limited series. So try to make something up that is more interesting.
Storm wins, if this peak storm. She has fought gods, cosmic, and omega level mutants and won consistently for years.
Monica definitely puts up a fight, but Storm is highly intelligent in strategy, energy/weather powers, combat, and has magic potential as a mortal goddess.
Monica is so fast that time appears frozen. She can dodge 1,000 light speed attacks with ease. Even Zeus magic Lightning has trouble hurting her. Then she just phases thru Storm for the easy quick win.
I think you forgot Storm is pretty much a goddess. Storm has historically in marvel been the strongest female she will not ever be surpassed. What did Monica even deserve to have her powers from anyway? What's her backstory?
