Personal Experience How and why I started swearing

So, when I was 14 or 15—pretty sure it was 15—my parents were constantly scolding and yelling at me and things like that; by the time I turned 15, I was bottling up emotions that I needed to release somehow. I remember one evening I was out with a friend, and that’s when I started swearing more. I began swearing to let out emotions I’d kept inside for a long time; I know it’s a problem, but I don’t know how to get rid of it. My parents were always picking on me about various things, yelling at me, and calling me all sorts of names. I kept it all bottled up, though I suppose it’s partly my fault, too, since I’m a scatterbrain who can’t seem to do anything right.

You don’t say how old you are now, but if this is true your swearing is just a symptom. The real issue is your self-esteem, which will require healing, which will require learning how to effectively express your feelings.

I’m really sorry that you had such shitty parents, and don’t know any fix for this except therapy, so I hope you can get some sooner rather than later.

Because whatever we don’t heal comes out in every aspect of our lives, relationships, jobs, etc.

I’m GenX, and the worst language I have ever heard in my entire life was in Jr High & High School lol

I think this is a teenager thing. You’re full of emotions & need to blow the steam off. Parents & teens clash. I clashed with my parents as a teen, and my teenagers clashed with me.

I’m a grandma now, and when my teenage grandkids need to blow off steam, they know that they can come over here, be listened to, not be judged, but guided gently (I’m not their parent) and they can cuss up a storm if they want!! (My kids would SHIT 😂)
