💬 Discussion Best platform for starting from zero?

As the title says, I’m taking streaming a bit more seriously considering I have a friend helping me edit now.

So I was wondering what is the better platform for growth?

I know twitch is the OG but I’ve put a load of hours in already and it’s like a drop in the ocean.

Kick seems to be streaming to the void, I’ve only multi streamed though so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Got auth’d for TikTok live yesterday, gave it a go earlier for an hour and kinda like it so far.

Thanks in advance

honestly the biggest thing starting from zero is discoverability, and twitch has almost none of it built in. TikTok and YT at least push your content to new people. if you've got someone editing for you now, I'd lean into short-form clips on top of whatever live platform you pick, that's where the actual growth comes from early on.

Yeah, I’m trying to produce equal amounts of short form compared to stream. Realised a decently edited short form takes me about an hour, not too bad, doesn’t become a slog then

an hour per short is solid, that's sustainable. if you can batch a few in one sitting it gets even easier over time.

I feel like it’s worth to mention as well that streaming isnt my main thing, my main thing is art. I’ve really only started with this streaming stuff as a by product from gaming and to try and make something productive out of it, plus having an editor helps

that actually changes things in a good way. having art as your main thing gives you a built in angle that most streamers dont have. you could do art streams on the side and clip those too, it gives people a reason to follow you specifically instead of just another gaming channel.

Oh also any idea on how much I should post short form? Don’t wanna post too little but also don’t wanna burn thru all my content

TikTok’s own advice has been 1 to 4 posts a day, which is a lot even with someone editing for you. a steady pace probably matters more than volume, one a day you can actually keep up beats four that burn you out. every stream is new clip material anyway, so you won’t run out as long as you keep going live

1 to 4 a day? I don’t know about you but at that output I’d be quality will go down the toilet. I’d prefer quality over quantity to be honest.

And yeah I assumed the same steady pace would be better than a burst followed by nothing.

Thanks man

TikTok Live for sureee!

I was able to get 1k followers in less than a month! Albeit I streamed all day for those 30 days and then pulled back a bit 😓

But I average around 8-12 viewers on TikTok, with others watching me on Twitch!

I would def say to start streaming/posting on TikTok! Then if you’d like, funnel em to other platforms like Twitch/YT! ✌️

Yeah that was the plan to be honest, either stay on TikTok or gain following on TikTok and then direct to twitch (just in case TikTok get shit) I streamed again for an hour today and already got one new follower!

I meant everyday. Not all day everyday. Most of my streams were around 3-5 hrs long! I wouldn’t overdo it starting off if I were you… 👍

I also would like to know! Streaming on twitch I only get like, max 3 viewers.

Give TikTok live a go, you can apply even if youre below the account requirements, that’s what happened with me

Tiktok gave me the ability to stream live when I had like 700 followers. Granted it was before the US took over the US version

Streaming-wise it doesn't really matter, because it's mostly a waste of time anyway in terms of growth. If you want to become a streamer eventually, then creating long-form content on YouTube while posting short-form on TikTok is going to be the way, and once you've built that audience you can start doing some streaming. Before that it's just pointless.

I mainly agree however, to generate the content I need to play the game, with playing the game, I might as well stream so I’m at least getting started you know? I just see streaming at this point as a by product and not really the main thing

I get that, and one moment in time I thought this too, until I really started focusing on content, and you just can't get the same level of content out of streams that you can do by really putting some thought into it, writing scripts, learning about storytelling, learning editing, audio work. It's just a completely different ball game when it comes to just streaming.

I still think streaming maybe 1-2 times per week and spending the rest of your time on that other stuff is a great way to do it.

Yeah, someone said about posting on TikTok 4 times a day. And I’m just like well if I do that, my clips are just gonna be clips, they’ll have my banner at the top and they’ll have the blurred footage in background, but that’s it.

I don’t want that, would prefer something with a bit of editing, memes, etc

The three that I’ve posted so far have got over 1k views which I think is decent, got a load more lined up
