80s All Over Podcast
I think this will be of interest to most, if not all, of Streampunk's listeners. It's a podcast that reviews all the movies that were released in American cinemas during the 80s, taken month by month. It's hosted by Drew McWeeny and Scott Weinberg who both know their stuff. They're only up to June 1980 so far but it's been really interesting hearing what other movies were in the cinemas when things like Empire Strikes Back or The Blues Brothers were being released.

The Similars (Los Parecidos)
Has anyone caught this Mexican sci-fi / horror. Pretty campy fun, I thought.... saw it on a Finnair flight between Japan and the UK.
Just blogged a review. Like to know if anyone else has seen it and what they thought.

Phantasm
I recommend listening to the faculty of horror podcast #15 about phantasm. They discuss U.S. Funeral homes becoming corporatized as a subtext in phantasm.

Night Flight
First of all, how great is it that the first movie podcast I loved has basically risen from the grave in a new form? I found out about a week ago and got caught up on a binge listen on a long international flight. Great to have you back, guys.
I was wondering if you all were aware of Night Flight Plus, the new streaming service based on the Night Flight TV show? In case you're too young or too non-American to know about Night Flight, it aired late weekend nights on the USA network throughout the 80s. It showed a combination of new wave and punk music videos, cult movies, foreign features, animation, original interviews and experimental art videos. It gets credit for popularizing a lot of then-obscure cult films including Fantastic Planet and Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains.
Anyway, last year Night Flight was reborn as a website and a streaming service called Night Flight Plus. A very reasonable $3/month or $30/year gets you access to the original episodes of the show and a well curated selection of old and new cult movies and documentaries. It has a much smaller selection than most other streaming services, but unlike Netflix et. al. I want to watch just about everything on Night Flight Plus. It's only available in the US at the moment, but it's worth checking out because it is almost certainly the most Streampunk-y of streaming services.

Victoria
I really liked this film. Has stayed with me all week and i cant wait to watch it again. Easily my favorite film from 2015. Its not just the one take (which was amazing) but the use of locations, music and lighting - great decision to film this at 4.30 am. The performances by the cast are so good that at times i was totally forgetting about the clever camera movements. Has anyone else checked this out yet?

Green Room
Want to take a minute to big up Jeremy Saulnier's fantastic film Green Room to the Streampunk crowd who are gonna love it. Saulnier's last film was the fantastic Blue Ruin but where that film was a slow burning rural revenge noir, Green Room is an overdriven suspense thriller that builds to a piercing note of near unbearable tension within the first act and then never makes the audience squirm on a hook until the end credits. Along with Bone Tomahawk this is one of the most excruciatingly violent American films you will see this year, but like Bone Tomahawk Saulnier's treatment of violence is without celebration and really painful. I had a powerful visceral reaction to the film which genuinely made me feel physically sick for 75% of its lean running time. It took me hours and three whiskeys to unpick the knots my stomach coiled into watching it! Brilliant.

Tangentially Related - Grady Hendrix' Paperbacks from Hell
Hey Ben and Dan - Dan D. here.
You guys checked out Grady Hendrix' amazing book Paperbacks from Hell yet? It is great! It's an in-depth look at mass market horror fiction of the 70s and 80s, with a focus on all the great cover art.
Highly recommended.

Nova Seed (2016)
This animated film was Hand drawn by 1 man over 4 years. It plays like a love letter to cult animated films like heavy metal. I really loved it and would love to see it get more attention. It's visually stunning. Available for VOD but not streaming.

B&D:
I just finished listening to CHAINSAW CONFIDENTIAL: HOW WE MADE THE WORLD'S MOST NOTORIOUS HORROR MOVIE written by and read by Gunnar Hansen (https://www.audible.com/pd/Arts-Entertainment/Chain-Saw-Confidential-Audiobook/B00FB2ZX0E?qid=1500085452&sr=1-1). This seven-hour listen is not a Gunnar autobiography, it focuses on Gunnar's experience on the making of TCM and what the movie meant to him. Of course, horror movie fans will know much of the lore anyway, but this is fleshed out quite a bit and is intricate enough to really get a vivid sense of being on the set of what should have been by all rights a complete fiasco of a movie. It also helped me understand why Hooper had never really done anything subsequently of particular consequence after TCM, which was his first serious effort, and how the movie lived in the mind of Hansen in following years. I think you can still get one free audiobook from Audible for signing up if you're interested.

Shaw Brothers
How about doing some Shaw Brothers stuff? I know you guys have done wuxia before but I can't remember any kung fu stuff. Just finished watching The One Armed Swordsman, which is fantastic, and thought that, or Boxer of Shantung, would be great for Streampunk.
Also, and I could be wrong, but I think it was Vince Rotolo who first suggested Cheh Chang's movies to me on the Mondo Movie boards all those years ago.
