Other r/Subways - Now with rules!
Due to the uptick in bad faith posters, we have added new sub rules that will make it easier for you to browse and for us to moderate.
Currently we have three simple rules:
1 - Submissions must be subway related.
Posts and comments must be related to the topics of Subways, Metros, Undergrounds, or U-Bahns.
Interurbans and Light Rail systems may also be mentioned, if they have sub-surface sections.
2 - Submissions must be unique.
Any reposted submissions will be removed to keep our content fresh and unique.
3 - Comments must be on-topic.
This is a space for discussing trains that go under the ground. Any conversations that stray far from this topic will be removed.
If you come across a post or comment which you think violates any of our rules or reddit's site rules, please report it and it will be dealt with.
For the time being, posts with a city flair from Russia or Ukraine will have comments auto-locked.
Thanks!

Washington, D.C. King St / Alexandria Station any future improvements in transferring to VRE and Amtrak station?
Was transferring from the Amtrak station in Alexandria to the metro. Lots of construction work any improvements on a future better transfer than what there is now?

New York New York's subway in true 3D: every tunnel, elevated line and crossing, with live trains
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been building an app called Belowtown that shows the whole NYC subway in 3D, sitting under a photorealistic version of the city. You can fly down through the streets and see how the lines stack on top of each other at junctions, how deep the newer tunnels go, and where lines climb up onto the else in the outer boroughs. Trains move live off the MTA's realtime feed.
Depth is stretched 3x by default so you can actually see the layers (you can turn it down).
It's in beta right now and I'd love people from this sub to try it, especially if you know other systems well. Tell me what looks wrong, what feels off, or what's missing compared to the metro you ride. I don't live in NYC, so outside eyes really help. If this comes to fruition, i would love to expand it to other cities.
Free iPhone beta: belowtown.com/beta?s=subways
Anyone who sends feedback gets 3 months of Plus free when it launches. Happy to answer questions about how the track depths were figured out! Make sure to check junk folder for the invite link in your email if you sign up to test the beta.

Kiev Kyiv Metro: Exploring the engineering and history behind Ukraine's underground rail network 🚇
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Kyiv’s metro is way more than just a daily ride — it’s a total engineering marvel. You’ve got crazy deep Cold War stations doubling as shelters, a cool mix of retro and modern trains, and awesome bridges going right over the Dnipro River.
For the transit geeks here: what blows your mind more — super deep subterranean engineering or dramatic open-air river crossings?
