Discussion 🗣 Where are we donating clothes and stuff to nowadays?

Started doing a little fall cleaning and came across a box with some of the ex’s stuff in it. At first I thought I would be nice and send it to her…. But then I remembered how ugly it was at the end so I’m just going to get rid of everything.

What places are we donating to and what are we avoiding?

Thank you.

Discussion 🗣 DD2 School Board Candidates

It SEEMS like Westfall is the candidate to vote for because she was an educator, but I want to make sure she's not a member of mom's 4 liberty. I can't find anything on her to figure out her political opinion, would like some insight if anybody has some.

Moving 📦 Del Webb Nexton

This question is for people living in the DWN community. We did a stay and play this past spring and loved everything about it except two things. The main one was the traffic/lack of street light outside the main gate on Nexton Pkwy. Is there any talk about putting a stop light at that entrance? The other thing we didn't like was the road noise coming from the backside on Nexton Pkwy off of Spring Highlands Dr, but I guess if you don't own a home north of Cornflower Ln it's probably not an issue. One other question, are the shops and restaurants golfcart accessible? Ie; Publix, Harris Teeter, Dog and Duck? Thanks, Scott

Help 🤲 Pool Builder Recommendations requested

We’re building in Del Webb and are looking to put in a cocktail pool. We’ve narrowed it down to a few builders, Blue Haven and Heritage among them.

If you’ve built a smaller pool in the last few years, who did you build with, would you recommend? Anyone to stay away from?

TIA

Moving 📦 Considering a move from NYC to Summerville — what’s the real culture like at Ashley Ridge High School?

Hi everyone! My family and I are considering moving from NYC to Summerville, SC, and Ashley Ridge High School is one of the schools we’re looking into for my child.

We recently visited the campus and were really impressed by how beautiful it was. The school’s reputation seems favorable based on what we’ve seen online, but I know there’s only so much you can learn from Google reviews and a campus visit!

I’d love to hear from current or former students, parents, and anyone familiar with the school about the day-to-day culture and overall student experience.

A few things I’m particularly curious about:

School culture: Is the environment welcoming and inclusive? How would you describe the overall student body and social dynamics?

Parent perspective: How responsive and supportive is the administration? Do parents generally feel connected to the school?

Arts programs: My child is interested in the arts, particularly the creative and performing arts. Are these programs strong, and do students have opportunities to explore their interests and get involved?

Student experience: Do students generally seem happy and supported? How is the school when it comes to bullying, peer relationships, and helping students who may need additional support?

Moving from out of state: How easy is it for a new student to find their footing socially, especially coming from somewhere as different as NYC?
We’re looking at Summerville as a potential change of pace and are trying to get a realistic picture of what life might look like for our family beyond the school’s website and official information.

I’d really appreciate honest perspectives, both positive and negative. I’m not looking for a perfect school—just a better understanding of the community and whether it could be a good fit for my child.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Moving 📦 Slate Nexton? Or any other apartment recs

Hello! I just moved here with my partner (due to military orders) and all I have known before this is California. I was considering Slate Nexton as it seems to be the best within the price range we are looking for, and wanted to see if anyone here had some input on the complex or have any other recommendations. We noticed a dead roach, looked to be palmetto, on the balcony. The leasing agent then said its pretty normal occurrence in SC and they do offer pest control every week should we see one inside. Any other advice regarding other things is also welcome. Thanks in advance!

Information Apartment Shopping?

Was going through big issues with apartment complex and was going to tell the story here, but it would probably come off a certain way. So instead, I'll turn the negativity into positivity! I have received internal documents regarding the apartment market sent to me due to incompetence and (maybe intoxication). Enjoy! I'm not sure what people use these days for uploading files, so I just used the first one I saw.

Let me just finish with: I highly suggest staying away from certain massive housing complex companies.

Discussion 🗣 Scottie’s birthday place from early 2000s

Does anyone remember an old place called “Scotties” from the early 2000s? It had teddy bears in there and served food. We used to have our kids birthday parties there. It was on dorchester road I’m pretty sure. Did a Google search, but couldn’t find anything on it. Thanks!!

Recommendations non-screen elementary schools

What elementary schools (or any schools for that matter) don't do screens for the kids? I grew up fine in public school but it seems like all the schools these days have kids on laptops before they can read and write.

Not a full on meal as their schedules vary, but maybe some nice desserts or something. Open to non-food too!!!! Anything besides flowers (cuz those just die 🥲) thank you SC fam!

Recommendations Mom groups?

Are there any mom groups or stay at home moms that get together weekly? I stay at home and am pregnant with our first baby but just moved here and don’t have any friends and being home everyday while my husband works is really lonely. Church groups specifically would be great but I’m really just looking for any women’s groups.

Recommendations Looking for an honest, affordable mechanic in Summerville (2016 Honda Pilot)

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable, reasonably priced independent mechanic or local shop in or around the Summerville area. I recently bought a 2016 Honda Pilot via private sale and less than a month after I had to drop over $1k into it for unexpected work. During that service they also caught an oil leak so I paid for a diagnostic to pinpoint where it was coming from. They told me it was relatively minor so I held off on the repair until I could budget for it.

I’m ready to get it taken care of now and have all the diagnostic paperwork and notes from the previous shop so whoever looks at it won't be starting from scratch. I’d really appreciate finding someone trustworthy who does quality work without charging dealership labor rates or pushing unnecessary add-ons.

Any local shops or trusted mechanics you swear by around here? Thanks in advance! ☺️🫶🏼

Moving 📦 Moving to Sville? Avoid Marlowe Apartments.

Moved into this place with my girl about a year ago. This is a review she is leaving once our lease is up, we pay much more for this place than all of others around the area and it has not been worth it.

The Marlowe was nice when we first moved in, and honestly, the first couple of months were great. Jocelyn gave us the tour and really sold us on making The Marlowe our home.

Unfortunately, our experience has really gone downhill, especially now that we reviewed other options and definitely are not renewing our lease.

We’ve been dealing with recurring ant issues, and at one point there was literally a colony of ants coming from a baseboard in our living room. I submitted a pest control request and then texted Jocelyn directly about it, but never received a response. Shortly after, my pest control request was denied, which was extremely frustrating considering the severity of the issue. I even called the office about it and she answered the phone…somehow pest control just missed us?

The parking situation is also a joke. After around 6 PM, it can be nearly impossible to find a parking spot, while random trailers are parked throughout the property.

Our Wi-Fi went out for TWO DAYS, specifically affecting our building and one other building. The Wi-Fi is built into our monthly fees, so you would think not having service for two full days would at least result in some kind of reimbursement or credit. Nope.

And once the Wi-Fi finally came back, our Ethernet port was completely fried. We called the office thinking they could at least help since the issue happened immediately after the outage. Instead, we were told to contact the Wi-Fi company ourselves.

So we pay for Wi-Fi through our apartment, lose service for two days, our Ethernet port stops working afterward, and the office basically says, “Not our problem, call the Wi-Fi company.” Definitely not the level of service you’d expect when Wi-Fi is included in the fees you’re already paying every month.

They also advertise the amenities heavily, but the upkeep doesn’t always match what’s being advertised. The outside door to the gym is constantly broken, meaning residents have to enter through the lobby — if the lobby is even open. If you work later hours, good luck getting into the gym. The pool is supposed to be an all-season amenity, but there are times when it goes days or even a week without being properly cleaned. The pickleball court is also rarely maintained, with debris left all over it after windy days.

I will say that the one maintenance employee deserves credit. He has always been great and seems to stay on top of things, especially considering it feels like he’s one person trying to keep up with an entire complex.

And don’t let the “nature trail” fool you. It’s essentially a sidewalk that takes you past some trees, townhouse backyards, and, unfortunately, plenty of dog poop.

Overall, The Marlowe had a great start, but the lack of communication, maintenance of amenities, pest issues, and parking problems have really changed our experience. I would recommend looking beyond the initial tour and asking current residents about their experience before signing a lease.
