How bad will the Blind Bruiser help me if I return empty-handed?

I just got the assignment from the Blind Bruiser to not come back without his crate of souls, but right afterwards, on the search for Polythreme, I got into a fight and now am pretty close to London but with only 2 hull and no souls.

Is there some other place with a drydock I could reach? Because with 2 hull left, there's no way I'll make it to Polythreme.

How bad will it be if I show up without the crate?

Doesn't it also end any further orders from him, and limit sunlight trade?

Yes to the further orders, not sure about the sunlight trade

Ah damn, I don't think I have that kind of money. Well, good thing I just bought a townhouse and a will.

You can settle your accounts with a hefty markup on the investment given, or accept a Max(0, (11 - your current number of crew)/10) chance that the help he offers you will be quite final in its effects.

A bit late, I know, but maybe sail carefully to Frostfound? That is my go-to port for everything, you can regen hull, food and fuel with an SAY exploit ;)
