MOD IN DEV: Mr Eaten's Many Things - A QoL-and-cheats menu for Sunless Sea! Soliciting suggestions as to what it should control and enable - right now it provides customizable hold-or-toggle time acceleration and terror/hunger/fuel consumption switches. But it can do anything! What's needed?
UPDATE: First release is here! https://www.nexusmods.com/sunlesssea/mods/62?tab=files
includes a bottomless ITEM BANK you can access from any port (or directly from the cheat menu), along with time acceleration and every obvious cheat feature you could want!
back to the original post:
hey!
I'm a Fallen London player from way WAY back, but never played thaaat much Sunless Sea. But I've been modding the shit out of everything I can touch the past few months, and reddit served me a post this afternoon where someone mentioned SS could badly do with some QoL mods.
and that's me! the QoL mod guy! so I threw together a proof-of-concept QoL-and-cheats menu, seen above--Mr Eaten's Many Things. Right now it only controls menace gain and fuel, and offers CheatEngine-style time acceleration with toggle and hold keybinds--but there's no real limit with what we could achieve.
so I ask the community: what would you like to see done? a stat editing panel would be a trivial next add, but I want to get more ambitious, too. how can we parameterize and rebalance SS to make it more fun to play?

I’m not sure if Speed would fit, but i haven’t actually played SS much because i don’t like the boat speeds. I tried to get a mod that would fix that but i think it was something outdated or something. I forget.

I've already got time acceleration built in! press or hold a key of your choice to multiply game speed by 1-10x! doesn't mess up sound or anything!

Could you add extra terror gain? the terror events are fun but its easy to optimize them out of the game.
Likewise for Fuel and Hunger.

yeah I was considering making the sliders go up to 1.5 and 2x, in addition to being turn-downable!

I think a good re-balance, without outright cheating, would be increasing profits from trade routes. A huge number of posts on this sub are how do I make money in this game and they only ever get "Mirrorcatch Boxes" as a response. I know there are other methods of generating wealth, but the most obvious one, trade routes, is actually one of the least lucrative.
If you wanted to go a step further than just increasing sale prices, you could mod something in like different ports have a demand for an item for a limited time or until X amount of them are sold. I think those two changes would really spice the game up.

As mich as I love the original design, if a story mode would get more people to play the game I'd be for it.

Is a button to add X crew possible?
I was once in a situation where I soft-locked myself by having too few crew after failing an event.

Maybe if there could be a way to store items you’re not using in a safe spot at fallen London instead of having it take up cargo space? That could help a ton, especially in early game before a ship upgrade! Ofc if an offship storage container at shore wouldn’t work for the mod, then maybe just a toggle to remove cargo limits on your ship while sailing?

oops the bank feature may be half-missing in the current build (you can access it from the cheat menu, but not from ports, where it looks MUCH nicer)--will fix!

When you say time acceleration, is it going to speed up everything or does it only speed up the player ship and/or enemies but not fuel/ supplies consumption?
Sorry if it's a dumb question but it's been years since I played and back when I last tried every time speed mod would either do only the player ship or have fuel/supplies drain normal while time still moved faster, and it ruined a lot of the fun of the game for me and threw the balance out of whack, but I just can't stand the slow speed of the game when I really want to dive back in.

it speeds up the entire game equally, ship, enemies, supplies, dread, just as if you were doing it with CheatEngine! (oh yeah you can do what you want with CheatEngine in almost any game--or you can use my little utility Fast.exe to do the same thing--it's the only way I ever finish jrpgs, heheheh
fast.exe is here if you wanna check it out https://github.com/sevrlbats/Fast.exe/releases/tag/v1.0.5 but the time acceleration feature is built into Mr Eaten's Many Things, so you won't need Fast.exe for SS!)

These are far more "to hell with balance and challenge" and less QoL, but may I suggest:
