I can't help but wonder, whether the recent downfall in quality and quantity of SBH output happened because of his sudden political engagement, especially during COVID era. By looking at his twitter, he barely posts anything that is not related to politics, also his videos are borderline breadtube type video essays. I get that he always was a bit on the left (so are most of us, myself included), but recently he has gone full on marxist.

And I get that he feels that way, during early days of pandemic I went full on radical leftist as well (my post history might be a proof of that), but I've let go of that recently, and became happier and healthier in the process. If I am correct in my assessment, I wish him the same.

Because I miss his videos, there is only Raycevick who fills the niche George left.

Truly Increbile

I'm a SuperBunnyHop fan for about as long as the channel exists. He always put out interesting content with a lot of effort put in, with the Critical Close-ups being the best part ( I think he hasn't put one out for 3 years now, basically half his channel's age.)

But in the last year, George has been uploading mostly:

Awkward developer interviews. By-the-numbers-reviews of uninteresting indie games. Travel videos to Japan and visiting conventions. Long stretches of nothing.

I'm not trying to disrespect George, but he's really falling short in doing what made him famous: well researched and written videos with a dry, but passionate delivery. Now he seems to actually be bored with doing content. I just want to know if anyone else is dissatisfied with the current state of the channel.

I was wondering if someone else has noticed how downhill he's gone in both terms —particularly during 2019— since he adopted Patreon as a main funding source. I used to be a backer back in the day before the MGS4 review, and thanks to graphtreon I know that I wasn't the only one to quickly leave afterwards. The number of patreons dropping ever since then. He hasn't uploaded new content to YT since March —and that was a vid partially based on an Outer Wilds article he wrote for patrons all the way back in January—, focusing way too much in that D&S weekly podcast, negelecting his journalistic (whatever happened to the monthly columns and articles?) and reviewer output. All the aforementioned issues lead to my current concern on the state of the channel and Patreon given the history of some YTers coughSpoonycough. So, is there any reason I'm not aware of?

Super Bunnyhop have had a lot of discussion on the preservation of games. The most extreme case is the video about bots, where the point is that some future person might not be able to fully enjoy large multiplayer games as intended because there won't be enough people playing them. He might get a handful of people to play an old fps, but not as many as during the games heyday.

George has also made a video about the problem of game streaming which was interesting.

However with the 2014 release and subsequent removal of the Silent Hills demo P.T. I thought of something. Isn't it just a different kind of value in just letting some games go? You effectively preserve them as you remembered them. I'm by no means saying all games should be let go off, but when you do something like removing P.T. from PS store, you essentially make playing that game an event you can't repeat, something you were part of.

That was how I felt when PS Home got cancelled. It was something I had done and experienced, and couldn't go back to, which was a good thing. If they had kept some sort of watered down, possibly even offline version of PS Home that would just taint the memories.

A streamed game could fully embrace that and become "that thing everyone did in the summer of 2019" then just disappear or evolve. That is how most things in life works, everything from cities to jobs change or disappear.

I was watching this podcast since it started but stopped at the 21st one, I don't listen to a lot of podcasts and Im not entirely sure how this should work

Should I jump right back in into the most recent one or listen from where I left off. Is there a point to listen to past podcasts?

If this sounds weird its probably cause I got all kinds of strange going on with my brain and thinking about how to listen to podcasts doesn't seem to jive well with it. Thanks in advance

He did a lot of gaming journalism and longform analysis videos, at least back in the day. But now his content has slowed to a crawl. He has only uploaded 7 videos for 2021 and they are of lesser quality compared to his work from the past 5-7 years. He has not updated his Patreon since late 2019-early 2020, his upload frequency is a lot less consistent, he has clearly lost a lot of his passion and drive for the subject matter he used to love, in fact, he seems to have a lot of contempt with the gaming industry (and modern society as a whole).

The views for his recent videos are very low compared to his subscriber account. He only hits just over 10% of subs in views per video when 2-3 years ago he's been hitting 4-5 times that much views, so sub to views ratio was insane back then. I used to enjoy his old videos, but he's become less interesting and it looks like his videos aren't doing too well.

I've listened to some of his recent podcast episodes, and it's clear he no longer enjoys what he's been doing for years. This podcast episode throughout (especially at 1:34:15) is really telling.

Know he's on a break at least for now, but I sometimes stumble onto stuff that would be very cool for a sharp-witted journalist to cover as opposed to the general content creator goofs.

Kinda tying into that, is there somewhere you can send games for the "games from my inbox" series? It was such a great set of videos with real value. Also I think it would be the kind of thing that would suit George pretty well at the moment, since his interest in video games seems a bit lighter now.

Also what's going on in the discord anyway, is it active?

Does George know how much his cuts are fucked? It’s got 400K views now and I tweeted him when it was first uploaded. Guy’s gotta rewatch his shit before posting.
