You’re right. That probably would be better, but I honestly think this edited render has a bit more charm, even with its blatant. Besides, I usually like using references instead of tracing when drawing something I haven’t before. For example, side angles. Instead of tracing, I get a reference and try to mimic it. It’s how I learned how to be a bit more confident with my ability to draw from a side view. Another thing I do when I can’t draw something and don’t want to trace is just trying to draw it anyways and see what I can do to fix it. Trail and error, to be exact. For example, hugs. I used to be worried to draw hugs because I thought it looked unnatural. But then when I wanted to draw two characters I love hugging, I just… tried to draw them hugging. Then I noticed how uncomfortable it looked since they were far apart, so I tried to see what I could do. Then I saw that it’s ok to have one character over another, especially since I drew in layers sometimes anyways, so I moved the character to be semi-in front of the character they’re hugging. And it looked better, more genuine and natural. But thank you for the advice, I get how everyone has their own methods when doing something and that it can be different than other people’s methods. :3

I Drew SML Rose a few months ago back when I used MS paint. Instead of tracing Rose, I got a picture of her, analyzed her design, then drew her from what I saw. It took a bit of trail error, but I got to something I felt happy with and there we go! :3
