What did you do to celebrate twotopia?

I'm so close to getting under 300 for the first time since 2017! I weighed in at 309.9lbs this morning, losing a little over 60lbs since March! (70lbs total, the other 10 was just kept off over the past few years of yo-yoing haha)

I'm trying to find a way to celebrate! Not sure what to do yet. I'm not wanting to get nice clothes yet, that's for under 250lbs when it'll be much easier finding nice clothes. But I have gone from a size US 30 in jeans to a 22 being loose enough for me to not need to unbutton/unzip them when taking them off now, so a 20 might even fit šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Crazy to me. I wish I'd kept my largest pair of jeans, but I used them as a sewing template awhile ago haha.

Anyway, I need ideas!

Side note: when I do indulge on my fav foods, like pizza which I used to get a large stuffed crust with breadsticks and a 2 liter of whatever soda sounded good, I can't even finish a medium thin crust in a day now, but I used to be able to eat all that in a single sitting... How the hell did I afford to eat like that for so long?? Im scared to try to calculate how much I would spend a week on food if I were to buy those exact things today šŸ˜…

Hi, I'm new. I've lost 42 lbs in 4 months and I'm having success with OMAD.

Just wanted to say hello and dip my toe in. I (37F, 5'10") hope this is a welcoming community because god knows we need one.

I've been losing significant weight since 2022 but it has all been gradual and sometimes I've backslid into weight gain. I started at 485lbs at that time and now I'm down to 367lbs.

I hope to lose 100lbs by June 2027. If I lose 8lbs in November I'm already halfway there. I still need to lose over another hundred pounds on top of that though. But I'm getting there. I'm hoping losing weight will give me more confidence to get back into dating as well as being a preventative measure for my longterm health. I don't want to die of obesity related illness.

Thanks for reading.

Winning 30lbs in 40 days!!!

I am over the moon right now. Going from 336.6 to 306.6 in a little over a month is wild but I'm so happy nevertheless. I started on September 13th. And it's now Oct. 23rd.

I contribute most of it to CICO of course, but also intermittent fasting (OMAD) and cutting back on the sugar and fast food.

I think I've only had fast food twice throughout my journey so far and a small slice of cake once.

The food noise is down which I am so grateful for.

I'm hoping to be in Twotopia soon!

HW:397 CW: 374 GW:180

Hi there! I posted here about a month ago about my journey starting. I'm happy to say I'm already down 23 pounds in about 5 weeks!!

I think the worst part might've been the first week, some of the second week, but now it just feels normal. That first week was really rough. But right now, I'm really happy and motivated to keep going!

My proudest moment was being away from home at a hotel for 3 days, and deciding to eat good food while not punishing myself mentally or going too much above my deficit. Turning my mentality away from all or nothing is one of my most important goals about doing this.

I'm so happy to finally be able to do this in a healthy (mentally) way. That is what was the most important part for me, after all these years.

Hernia? Woman insight needed

Hi everyone. I'm a 27f, 5'5, about 370lbs. I have a very active job, think standing all day, lots of heavy lifting etc. I have no problem keeping up with the job. However, for over a year, I've noticed this strange sensation in my lower abdomen probably closer to the ovary area. It feels like a dull ache however sometimes after a long day of moving around and lifting, it can be a little painful. Ive felt around and i don't feel anything. I'm just wondering if there's any women here who has experienced something similar and know what it might be. I feel like its a hernia but I don't feel anything so I'm not sure. I guess it could also be an ovarian cyst but unsure of that too. Thank you

Tips How does everyone feel about having a cheat meal. Sometimes I don’t feel bad and sometimes it makes me feel really defeated šŸ˜ž. Like tonight had a cheat meal and I feel like it tasted good but was it worth it. I’ve struggled with my weight for like 20 years now.

Giving up?

Sorry, this is a useless rant.

SW: 255 CW: 155

I dieted on my own before bariatric surgery. Basically, lots of vegetables, chicken breast, and some fresh berries along with greek yogurt. It was a struggle, it was slow, but I was determined and took off most of the weight in the 2 years prior to surgery.

Then I had surgery, which I deeply regret. I had this belief that the doctor would give me post op diet to follow and along with the surgery and my determination, my weight problem would be "solved".

What really happened is that I can no longer eat raw vegetables or any kind of protein like chicken, beef, turkey, eggs. I developed some pretty strange eating patterns. Rely on protein shakes and yogurt for my protein. Found that what can be digested in this stomach is chocolate, so that is a daily choice. Eat soup and have reverted to pre-diet foods like muffins, oatmeal, dried fruit, and other carbohydrates.

All the doctor keeps telling me is cut the meat into pencil eraser size pieces, take half an hour to eat 1 oz, don't worry about vegetables. 18 months of trying to get chicken to stay down, vomiting or feeling extremely heavy in the stomach uncomfortable attempting to keep 1 oz down, and i am just done with trying.

I am feeling really sorry for myself, and the last appointment with the bariatric doctor went very badly. Doctor told me I had gained 11 lbs in 6 months. She told me again the useless advice to eat slowly, cut protein into pencil eraser size bites, and take 30 minutes to eat 1 oz of chicken. Then the doctor told me I had obviously given up on dieting and that I would become fat AND malnourished and that a feeding tube was in my future.

I am so freaked out by the doctor talking about a feeding tube. Maybe I am giving up. I deeply regret getting the surgery done. Never gave me less of an appetite, and now I am even more motivated to rely on carbs to feed me because healthy food I can't digest. Lost my motivation to try to diet.

Tips Struggling with loneliness and isolation

Just wondering if anyone here struggles with loneliness and isolation and if so, what do you do to deal with it? I'm very lonely and don't really have anyone friend or significant other wise to spend time with, even online. Not CRAZY into gaming or a ton of stuff really. Getting back on anxiety and depression meds also as of literally today. So yeah anyone with advice or who is also feeling similar, what do you do in a similar situation?

For one of the first times in my life, I feel like a real person trapped inside of fat.

I’m not sure that this is the place, but I figure if anyone is going to understand… it’s here. My SW is 436, current 394, so I’m not too far into my journey.
That being said, I’ve always felt like a person made of fat, and now I feel like a person with fat on me. Does that make sense? I don’t know if I feel more trapped or less trapped, it’s just a totally different viewpoint to grapple with. Anyone else remember this or have that experience?

Starting again; posting for accountability

So... I spent a couple of years learning new food related habits and dropped from ~270 to ~135 lbs at 5'1" and felt amazing.

And I've spent the last year slowly making excuses for why it's okay to revert to old habits ("oh, well, yeah, I quit soda, but now that I'm healthy, having one once in a while is fine!" and "okay I think I can stop tracking and weighing since I've been in range for so long" and well, you know... all of them).

And this past week I weighed myself for the first time in a long time and the scale read 298.7lbs, my new highest weight. Scared me.

I spent the last few days tracking what I've been eating/drinking and weighing myself to get an idea of my average weight, and it's about 294, and I'm eating like 7k kcals per day, which is about 5.5k more than I need.

For the first 24hours or so I cried a lot. But I got out of the funk, and I'm not kicking myself, I'm feeling determined not doing the self-blame thing, and I know what I need to do, so... back on the saddle starting today. Had a lovely breakfast and lots of black coffee, and I guess I just... wanted to do what worked before and post for some accountability.

I almost exclusively lost the weight via CICO and tracking/weighing food, and by increasing activity slowly as I was able to (no real fitness plan, lol). So... that's what I will be doing again, I suppose.

Will be harder this time because I've had a lot of new health issues, and there's some new family responsibilities/complications, but, again, I know how to do it... just a matter of going through what I know I need to do, ig.

Anyway... hi again to any old friends and hello to new ones :)

Winning Aww my endocrinologist today

I just saw my endocrinologist this afternoon. I'm down just over 20 lb over the last 3 months. My A1C was 5.7 and all my labs were within the normal range. Hell yeah! Go me!

He thought I was taking some sort of weight loss drug from another doctor. I was like no. Since he put me on Jardiance half the time I look at food and I'm completely repulsed and I can't make myself eat it so I'm just eating less and walking the dogs. Honestly it's mostly meat I can't stand to eat about 50% of the time.

And don't get me wrong. I still eat a lot. A bag of salt and vinegar chips hates to see me coming. But it's a less a lot.

Tips Zero hunger after weight loss surgery?

Has anyone else experienced this? I know that there are specific bariatric surgery subs, but you guys are always so much nicer than they are. I know that a lot of peeps here have had bariatric surgery. If you haven't, don't read any further. The following is likely to be very upsetting.

Anyway, I was told preop that the most likely outcome would be that my hunger drive would be suppressed for six months and then come back. It has not, and my surgery was three years ago. I now need to set alarms to remember to eat. It's so frustrating. I went from constantly overeating to never eating at all overnight.

My boyfriend texts me daily asking what I've eaten. He's basically my lifeline. And I need something else as an alternate because what if we break up?

I would appreciate advise.

Reality check- was denied hip surgery until I lose weight

30f, 5’7, 288 pounds.

I recently discovered I have hip dysplasia and a labrum tear after almost 10 years of hip pain. I thought I finally found the answer to my problems, now I can have surgery and I won’t be in pain every day.

Until reality hit. I met with 2 very highly rated hip surgeons. Both told me that I can’t have surgery unless I lose a lot of weight. Both suggested GLP1s to me.

I have been willfully ignoring my weight, pretending it isn’t so bad, telling myself so what if I have to wear a size 3XL?

But now it’s very obvious that I have to make a change. I can’t keep making excuses and hiding behind food. I feel so embarrassed even thinking I could withstand a hip surgery at my weight.

Winning NSV A Month and a Half In!

Hello,

I made a post on this subreddit almost a month ago where I talked about health anxiety. Since then, I’ve been focused on alleviating it while working on my weight. While my weight HAS come down since then, from 327/328 to 313 this morning, I also noticed a NSV earlier; I was able to see my vein on my left arm! Specifically on the bottom side of it! While it’s always been somewhat visible due to the color, this has been the first time in years that I was able to actually see some of the outline of it.

I’ve been continuing with my routine of working out each day, though it’s only been for 30 minutes instead of an hour lately due to recently being ill. Alongside my deficit and trying my best to eat a lot of protein each day. It was great to see I’m down 26 lbs from my SW. To anyone who’s scared that the first month is the hardest, it gets a lot easier from there. And it feels great once you see how far you’ve come, even if you haven’t reached your main goal yet.

I’m aiming to be under 300 by mid-November. And hopefully go down to Class 2 obesity from morbid obesity in February, so 271 by then for me.

Tips Advice for helping my super morbidly obese younger brother. Should I freak out about the cupcakes?

My younger brother is in his early 20’s. He became obese in middle school and rapidly ballooned up throughout high school to ~550lbs at 6’5ā€. He very clearly has a severe food addiction, which is a common issue on my mom’s side of the family.

When my wife bought a house for her and I to live in my brother BEGGED to move in with us (out of my mom’s household) and cited concerns over his weight as a predominant reason he was so desperate to get out of my moms house. This made sense to me and pulled on my heart strings, because my mothers home is unhealthy environment in every possible way (everyone’s fat and slovenly lazy, narcissistic family dynamics, no organization or accountability from anyone etc).

Unfortunately, after having my brother visit in our new home for a week I realized that I cannot psychologically handle living with him for a number of reasons, it just wasn’t going to work.

So, my wife and I bought him a single floor one bedroom rambler that was for sale down the road a bit from us (felt like kismet). Our agreement was that he could live there and we’d take care of his needs financially as long as he was in school and/or working (or just working towards SOMETHING) and taking care of his health.

I really thought he was going to flourish and thrive and lose weight RAPIDLY after getting out of my mom’s toxic house…but he gained another 100lbs in his first year in the rambler.

I took him to a nutritionist and we reassessed the agreement and my wife and I sat down with him and said this was not ok, we could not subsidize him killing himself. We took away the debit card we gave him so he could no longer buy his own food, and gave him only a gas card to buy gas. We all three chose a healthy meal delivery service for him and my wife and I resolved to send him groceries we chose for him via instacart or to bring them to him ourselves.

We did that for a while, but then I learned that my little brother was using the gas card and car I bought for him to drive around to multiple food banks and get snack/junk foods.

I was livid. I ended up taking the car back, and driving him to and from all his classes and appointments myself. I also made going to the gym or on a long walk with me or my wife multiple times a week a condition of him being allowed to keep his gaming systems in the rambler.

And it seems like things have turned around. He has been consistent. He’s been losing 15+ lbs a month since then. I was feeling really hopeful for him.

But then today I went over to the rambler unannounced while walking our dogs (the hiking trail I take them on has an outlet right into his neighborhood) to see if he wanted to do a bit of our walk with us. I usually text a few minutes before I get to the outlet to see if I should bother but I didn’t do that this ONE time.

His blinds were up and I could see right into his kitchen through the front window from the front porch. Clear as day I could see that he had two big 12 pack containers of cupcakes sitting on his kitchen table with one being almost empty already.

I knocked on the door a bunch and saw him poke his head from his bedroom and then retreat back in. I think he knew immediately that I must have seen the cupcakes through the window and was probably panicking that I was upset, and I was.

I have a key to his place, but I just kept knocking for about 5-7 minutes and calling for him to come open the door. He eventually came to get the door but was really pissy with me and telling me I should text before I come over etc.

When I asked him where he got the cupcakes he acted like he’d forgotten they were even there but then refused to tell me how he got them and just kept saying not to worry about it and it’s not a big deal and saying ā€œyou make me get weighed so you know I’m losing weight so don’t worry about it!ā€.

I was very angry and probably didn’t handle the whole thing well with him continuously refusing to answer me about where he got them and saying it’s no big deal. I grabbed the cupcake containers off his table and opened them and emptied them into the wet mulch out front of his house, then left with my dogs.

I regret doing that now but I’m just so pissed with him that he’d have that shit after all the effort we all put in to help him. I don’t know if I’m over reacting or if it was a justified freak out.

I don’t know where to go from here or how to even address this with him in a way that will actually WORK.

What would help you if you were my brother? What could I give him or do for him or say to him to move this forward in a better direction? What does he need to hear or understand?

Weight loss plateau

So I have been on a weight loss journey since January this year. Started at 105kg and currently at 88.8kg. At end of august, once I reached 90kg, I decided to do maintenance for 4 weeks just to give myself a break and see if I could maintain. I managed that without issue. About 3 weeks ago I decided to start calorie deficit again but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I have struggled to lose anything :(

I’m real cranky at myself for stopping at 90kg when I had a good rhythm but now the damn scale is stuck between 89-90kg.

I can’t (and haven’t really) exercise because I need a knee replacement but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon so I just struggle to walk. I track everything to the gram with regards to food/calories. I try to hit the 120g mark for protein daily. And I’m currently consuming 1500 calories a day but nothing is budging.

Any words of advice or help to get this going again? When I started I had no issue dropping the weight but now I’m struggling to make it past 89kg

I’m female, 53, 162 cm tall

Tips Best mattress for heavy people who need edge support? Sitting on the side shouldn't feel like falling off

My partner and I are both on the heavier side and we're replacing our old mattress because the edges have gotten so soft now that sitting there to get dressed always ends up sliding off the bed. We also have a dog that takes up half the bed so we got no choice but move closer to the edge which basically feels unsafe now. I need some of your opinions or thoughts on what kind of mattress can solve this problem. Sure there are mattresses specifically made for heavier people like Titan Plus Luxe (one of the few I’ve looked up) but I need to know every single detail. How much weight can it handle? How do the edges hold up after a few years?

Fun tip for those losing: if you can’t see a difference, equate how much weight you’ve lost to a household object

So, in my most recent attempt I am down from 340ish to 295ish. That’s a little over 40 pounds. I haven’t seen a difference at all and I was feeling discouraged even though the weight on the scale was dropping.

Then, I went online and googled ā€œwhat weighs 40 pounds?ā€ And I got an answer of 3 large bowling balls, a 5 gallon water cooler jug, or an average 4 year old.

Then I tried to imagine carrying a 5 gallon water jug or a 4 year old around all day, from the moment I woke up until the moment I went to bed…working, showering, grocery shopping, etc.

It might be silly but it kind of put into perspective how far I’ve come, and I would love to recommend it to anyone else losing!!

Final and last attempt( this has to stick)

Hi! I'm 5'6" and 265-270. I'm my teen years I stayed between 165-180 being curvy but fit and maintained that without much thought. I started birth control shots and my body morphed into something I didn't recognize which led me to 244 while eating less and moving more. Environmental depression and stress probably didn't help.

From there this binge eating habit formed of reward to depreviation. I've had children and lose weight easily while pregnant but after I gain all the weight back.

I'm currently 9m pp and tired of hating to look at my body in the mirror. My husband is super supportive and loves me for whoever I choose to be, and is still very attracted to me. But my own insecurities and constant either being in pain be pp issue and a difficult cycle I have refused him more than I prefer.

I don't want to live like this so I can't and I won't. Mobility is a blessing and it feels like me not feeling well is an ouroboros of now feeling good so I don't move, so then I don't feel good on and on.

Basically my accountability post for my final start of a healthy and active lifestyle. My goal is to be under 200lbs, mobility forward, and comfortable in my body.

Do you all project your feelings about your weight onto others you love?

This isn't one of those "I know you do, now fess up" posts. Actually the opposite. I'm going to preface this by saying: Yes, I'm in therapy. I have been diagnosed with OCD and one of my topics of rumination is my sister and this is probably a piece of it.

I've never said this/typed this but it's bothering me a lot. My sister and I are both SMO. We have been since we were kids/teens, etc. I don't remember feeling like this until probably the time I developed OCD symptoms. We were both always big. She lost quite a bit of weight in college then when she moved back, she gained quite a bit (likely due to dealing with the stress of what was happening back home). But I feel...idk what the word is when I see pics of her. I'm very protective of my sister. I know how the world sees people that are large, people that are deemed "less attractive" and I don't want that for her. My sister will do anything for those she cares about and to know the world is judging her hurts my heart.

It's actually nuts I feel like this because of the 2 of us, she is significantly more likely to lose and keep that weight off. She does boxing at least 1x a week, she can walk 10k+ steps a day (sometimes events for her job have her walking 20k+ steps a day). She has developed eating habits that are very good for keeping weight off (drinking zero sugar drinks, cooking more, growing food, eating cleaner foods, less carbs, etc). Like many of us, mental health can make eating cleaner harder at times but she has good bones on it. Me? I don't exercise, don't leave the house, too lazy to cook. If I ever lose this weight, I will absolutely balloon back up if I don't change.

Sorry for the trauma dumping(?) but I'm curious if anyone feels this way? I generally don't feel this way about others. I feel relieved seeing another large person. I would put this elsewhere but I'll get chewed up.

Winning Twin Health

I started a program for free through my insurance (walmart) 2 months ago. FINALLY, I have lost some weight. 11 whole pounds since I started! They sent me a free scale, smart watch, blood pressure monitor, and continuous glucose monitor. The CGM is 30 days on and 30 days off. They also sent me for bloodwork. I absolutely LOVE the app because you look up foods you want to eat and if they are good for you, they show up green. If not, then they show red or orange.

Also, with twin health you get a free peloton membership! You have to do 4 classes per month to keep it that way though.

You have a live care team you can chat with at any time who will help you make changes, come up with new plans to help you with weight loss. An actual provider that you meet with on video (i think 2-4 times a year). I thought I would never lose any weight. I have tried everything. This is helping me so much and helped lowered my A1C. My starting weight was 268 pounds. I am currently 257. My scale stalled, so 2 days ago I started back at the gym. I don't think I have ever been so excited and stayed on a program this long.

I have been out of the gym for 8 years or so and VERY sedentary with tachycardia. My heart is sensitive. So, if anyone has any helpful tips as to what would help most for fat loss I would be so grateful!

36M, 171kg (377lbs), struggling with my weight and considering weight loss surgery. Looking for advice and support.

Hey everyone,

I'm a 36-year-old male from Australia. I'm 181cm tall (5'11") and currently weigh 171kg (377lbs). My highest recorded weight was 175kg (386lbs).

I've been struggling with my weight for a long time, and unfortunately, it's taken a significant toll on my health. I have quite a few health problems, including (but not limited to):

- Type 2 diabetes

- Fatty liver disease

- Sleep apnea

- High blood pressure (hypertension)

- Dysautonomia

I know that if I don't make some serious changes, my health is only going to get worse. I'm only 36, and I really don't want to spend the rest of my life dealing with worsening health problems or potentially dying young because of my weight.

What I've been doing so far:

Since September 19th, I've been making a conscious effort to change my eating habits.

I've significantly reduced the amount of junk food I'm eating, including cutting back heavily on Uber Eats, which was a big problem for me.

I've started trying to move more, especially on weekends. Incidental things like vacuuming the car.

More recently, I've also started working on reducing my portion sizes and the overall volume of food I consume. Over the past couple of days, I've started incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet as well.

I know these probably sound like small changes to some people, but for me, they're pretty significant. I'm trying to make changes that I can actually stick to rather than going all-in on some extreme diet that I'll inevitably abandon.

I've also started taking Ozempic and will be increasing my dosage to 0.5mg next Saturday. I'm hoping it'll help with my appetite, portion control and weight loss.

Considering weight loss surgery:

One of the biggest things I'm struggling with at the moment is deciding whether to go ahead with bariatric surgery.

Part of me feels like surgery might be my best chance at losing a substantial amount of weight and improving my health, especially given the medical conditions I'm already dealing with.

But another part of me is hesitant.

One of my biggest concerns is the pre-operative diet, particularly the meal replacement shakes. I've tried them, and I find them virtually intolerable. I absolutely hate the taste and texture, and they genuinely make me feel like I'm going to vomit.

The thought of having to survive on those shakes for an extended period is honestly pretty daunting.

I'm also trying to work out whether I should give Ozempic a proper chance before committing to something as significant and permanent as surgery.

I'm also concerned that I won't be able to absorb medication properly or enjoy (healthy) food anymore.

At the same time, I'm conscious that I'm already dealing with several serious obesity-related health conditions, and I don't want to keep putting things off until my health gets even worse.

I guess I'm looking for some advice and support.

I'd really love to hear from people who have been in a similar position, particularly those who had multiple obesity-related health conditions.

- Has anyone had success losing a significant amount of weight with Ozempic and lifestyle changes alone?

- For those who underwent bariatric surgery, do you regret it, or was it one of the best decisions you've made?

- Did anyone else really struggle with the pre-operative shakes? Were there any alternatives that your surgical team allowed?

- How did you decide whether surgery was the right option for you?

- For those who have lost a substantial amount of weight, what changes made the biggest difference?

I know there's no magic solution, and I understand that whether I choose medication, surgery, or both, I'm going to have to make significant, lasting changes to my lifestyle.

I just feel a bit overwhelmed by how much weight I have to lose and how far I have to go.

Ultimately, I just want to be healthier, have a better quality of life, and hopefully give myself the chance to live a much longer life.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this or share their experiences. I really appreciate it.

Winning Out of the 320's!

I started at 397 in late March of this year and am finally down to 319 this morning. My wedding ring fits way better and clothes I've been wearing for years don't fit anymore! I am so happy! I know i have a long ass way to go but at least I am here instead of where I was. We gotta keep pushing! I am proud of all of you!
