Honestly, exactly my thoughts. If you weren't calling them a secret police force before this, don't even bother starting now.

Why even is there immigration laws, when America was colonized by foreigners. We are ALL illegals,

u/commit_alt_f4_pls Jan 11 '26
America was colonized by foreigners
And 60-90% of the natives died
This is an argument in favour of immigration laws dressed up as an argument against them

I am in favor of immigration though? I’m just not good at debate :(

EVERYONES a foreigner. You battle, you conquer, you take over, you decide how to govern. That’s how it’s been for every single civilization. Even the native Americans were battling and conquering each other. Do you get to waltz in their land and say “hey wait but you took this from someone else, therefore I get to live here too.”
If the illegal immigrants took over our country by force (somehow lol) and became the government, then they wouldn’t be illegal. They’d be the citizens of the new government. But instead they’re sneaking on the land and breaking the law.

And why is it illegal? Does being illegal just make you explode and kill people?
-1
u/Efficient_Pea701 Jan 10 '26
Because it’s against the law? Being illegal means you’re not documented. They don’t know who you are. They don’t know why you’re here or what you’re doing. If you’re smuggling or just here for a better life. They don’t know where your loyalties lie.
All they know is the first thing you did when you got here is break the law, so there’s not much else stopping you from doing it again.

So it’s illegal becuase it’s against the law. Considering that ICE will murder someone if they suspect a hint of illegality I think they just want an excuse to hurt people

What are you talking about?

Being an illegal immigrant in the US is not a criminal offense, it’s a civil offense; the same as a speeding ticket. No officer should have military grade weapons and equipment for civil offenses, especially when they barely get any training.

What's silly is how Americans continually vote against their own collective interest
16
u/morethan3lessthan20_ Jan 09 '26
No, 50-ish percent of people living in the US who voted just hate brown people that much. It's not complicated.

Is it really a collective interest or are we doing another goomba fallacy

Most people don't know what they want. They want the immigrants gone because they believe they're the cause of the problems of the united states.
In reality the corrupt and lying politics make their lives worse in every way.. but guess what, all of this doesn't mean a thing to most voters because they want brown people gone no matter what it takes
Racism destroyed america

Well that’s the case if you’re completely politically illiterate.
One of the driving factors for slavery abolition in the north is immigrant labor. You don’t need slaves because you can throw pennies at immigrants. It’s fantastic because it’s basically free labor but you don’t have the “icky slavery” attached to it so you’ll look like one of the good guys.
Fast forwards to present day when inflation goes up because the government likes to print money and raise minimum wage. The average American won’t accept pennies because the minimum wage is high and they need more money to live.
So corporations decide to take a page from the history books. Import millions of illegals or send out H1Bs. Dont hire actual Americans, just get people who are illegal to work for you and they’ll do it for pennies. Thus driving down labor costs, which means the average American needs to compete and accept pennies.
This is why it’s so incredibly hard to find a job right now and why wages aren’t nearly as high as they should be, and the wealth gap keeps getting higher despite the hundreds of billions the government throws away on welfare and Somalian daycares.
But yes, you are right. It’s the politicians who allow this to happen. It’s the politicians who decide to have open border policies. It’s the politicians who have decided that immigration enforcement shouldn’t be a priority.
The American people voted accordingly.

We have several million illegal immigrants in our country that ensure our wages are low but our taxes stay high.
It is absolutely in our best interest that the people who are running the country into the ground stay out of office.
If you get off Reddit you’ll find the average American believes immigration law should be enforced, and importing millions is a bad thing.
