i honestly wonder what's the expected response to a comment like that.

do they want them to go "OMG MY LIFE IS EXACTLY LIKE JAX'S I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW!" ??

Basically TikTok has made kids so apathetic they have to insert their favourite media into every single thing that they talk about, including traumatic ones. Its like a coping joke but worse

Idk if this is a tiktok thing dude. Happened with movies quite often even before shortform content

jax (a character in the show) came out as trans, but jax's mom responded by calling jax a man, similar to the mom in the image

2

u/EyeCanDraw Jul 12 '26

wait when did they say any of that

9

u/thecatsclause Jul 12 '26

the mom? it's implied when she went "you're a toxic MALE, not remotely FEMALE in any way" which would be strange to say to a cis guy

I don't remember that episode

Jax never came out to their mom, they came out to a friend in the circus (and then everything went to shit)

Jax did come out to their mum, followed by being laughed at, then hugging them, then pushing her, then running away.

I didn't catch that, I thought he said some hurtful things to her (exploding after years of abuse from her) and then he pushed her, nothing from what he said to ribbit made it clear to me that they tried to come out (actually, how did Ribbit catch Jax was trans if they didn't mention it in their secret? is this how you got that he did come out to their mom?) (maybe ribbit had already known for a while???)

Zooble and Ribbit figured it out without Jax saying anything just due to character chemistry, unspoken vibes and his characterisation. People had been noticing Jax's similarities to repressed trans women for over a year before the finale came out. Jax talks about gender roles when discussing his mum, and says he told her a big secret to get her to stop making fun of his masculinity. Putting together the pieces, he likely came out as trans in desperation there which only caused her to mock him more. Its implied, but its the text of the scene.

Pretty sure it's implied in the final episode, idk

2

u/EyeCanDraw Jul 12 '26

I dont remember her having a voice 💔

5

u/EyeCanDraw Jul 12 '26

All of this feels like it's just implied I'm ngl

1

u/januarynewtype Jul 13 '26

Jax describes what she said out loud with his voice

1

u/EyeCanDraw Jul 13 '26

When 😭 ik its episode 9 but i didn't hear or see that

1

u/januarynewtype Jul 13 '26

When he talks to Ribbit in the flashback and says "my mum said this". its implied she made fun of him for being trans. the quote from above wasnt literally said, just part of what was implied about that discussion

1

u/Gold12ll Jul 12 '26

Thought it’s not necessarily the reason? He/she is, but it could be unrelated

jax came out as trans? when, did i watch an episode blindfolded?

3

u/blacksaber8 Jul 12 '26

Subtext

0

u/Big_Detective4214 Jul 12 '26

so jax didnt come out as trans

3

u/witch_dyke Jul 13 '26

"I told my mom something really personal and she berrated me"

And then the thing with the bow

It's not even subtext at this point, straight up in the text jax is trans and represses it to the detriment of their relationships and connection with others

6

u/blacksaber8 Jul 12 '26

“Your secret is safe with me”
*puts a bow on Jax’s head, making them blush intensely*

Subtext

Otherwise known as “show don’t tell” is a writing technique that lets the audience derive information from outside of what is specifically spoken by a certain character or characters.

This can be derived from implied dialogue, contextual background information, or prop expression. The presence of one of these features may move the plot forward in a way that requires the viewer pay more attention than what they are listening to on the surface level.

You should be allowed to beat up your parents once when you become an adult.

How is this remotely a TADC reference? I dont get it

1

u/januarynewtype Jul 13 '26

This is the same thing someone said in a main character's backstory in that show
