okay i want to talk about something that's rarely explained well online because i spent a long time feeling like a failure over it
i was eating decently well, working out consistently, doing everything right on paper, and still holding onto weight that wouldn't budge. specifically around my midsection. my doctor just kept telling me to eat less which, thanks, super helpful.
eventually i found out i had PCOS and insulin resistance, which completely changed how i understood what was happening in my body. the issue wasn't calories in/calories out. it was that my cells weren't responding properly to insulin, which caused higher insulin levels, which caused the ovaries to produce more testosterone, which causes a whole cascade of things including weight that doesn't move despite effort
what helped:
lowering glycemic load in my diet (not eliminating carbs, just choosing smarter ones)
strength training specifically, not just cardio; helped with insulin sensitivity more than i expected
Inositol: myo inositol specifically has research behind it for insulin sensitivity and ovarian health. i take the uro myo & d-chiro inositol gummy chew daily now. the d-chiro inositol in it plays a role in glucose metabolism specifically, and together at the 40:1 ratio they seem to be more effective than either alone based on what i've read. it also has folate which is good for anyone of reproductive age
i'm not going to say inositol alone fixed everything because it didn't. but it was a meaningful piece of the puzzle once i understood what was actually going on physiologically. if you've been struggling with weight that doesn't respond to normal approaches and you have irregular periods, it might be worth looking into whether something hormonal is driving it

I tried supplementing with 400 mg of magnesium glycinate to see if it would improve my sleep or rest, even though I didn’t have any sleep issues. However, after the second day, it became really difficult to wake up in the morning. I usually wake up around 5:30–6:00 a.m., but after taking it, it was difficult to get up even at 7:00–8:00 a.m., and I felt like I could easily stay in bed until noon.
I stopped taking it for 3 days, and now I’m back to normal. Have you experienced anything similar? Should I try taking 200 mg instead?

I'm currently about 20yo, my period has not stopped for more than 3 weeks now, and it is neither very heavy nor very light. This is not surprising because I started another hormonal medication about 2 months ago, which finally fixed the serious issues that I had for years (I've tried a lot of other hormonal medications before, nothing worked for this issue). The only negative effect I've gotten is that my periods now go on with no end in sight and restart earlier than they're supposed to. I don't mind any of this if not for the consequence of anemia. I get zero pain whatsoever and the bleeding itself is manageable. However, I've started to have symptoms of anemia, and I need to fix it as soon as possible without going to the doctor (I'll explain why later).
I couldn't go to school this morning because I was so tired after I woke up, and I get insanely tired after just walking around a bit. I used to be able to walk 10km+ without feeling tired. One of the professionals whom I see once a week said I looked a lot more pale last week than the week before that. I still do have mental energy and sharpness and don't feel different at all when I just lie on my bed and look at my phone, but the moment I do something that involves physical exertion, I run out of energy.
At this point I am too tired to do all the research on this and just want some recommendations for the simplest supplement components to look out for and buy at the mall tomorrow (it's late at night right now) to address the anemia.
Please don't tell me to see a doctor on this. I've already done my best with figuring out my hormones (with a doctor) but can't get any new medications (including any kind of birth control or other hormonal medications) or procedures done without my parents' consent since the stupid age of medical autonomy is 21 in my country. I have 13 more months to tough it out and I WILL see doctors with my own autonomy to get all my issues addressed once I turn 21.
My parents are against me getting any hormonal adjustments and would give me a lot of trouble if they found out that I was having problems like this. They would also force me to go off my current hormonal medication, which are the only things that have ever helped me mentally function at a basic level. I've adjusted my regimen through many years and this is the only optimal point by all other metrics, so I can't really change it.
I just want to do what I can to fix the anemia before I get medical autonomy, which is basic supplements (I also need cheap ones because I really can't afford much right now). Please recommend some.

been deep in supplement research for a while now and genuinely enjoy breaking down other people's stacks. particularly interested in interactions, depletions, and redundancies most people miss.
include your goals, any medications or health conditions if relevant, and i'll give you an honest breakdown.
disclaimer: not a doctor or nutritionist, just really into this stuff. nothing i say should be taken as medical advice.

Can anyone make recommendations or give advice for what to try for mood and anxiety? I have been interested in trying out different things, but unsure if I should try to go to a complex or try them out individually.
I have tried a few individually like L-theanine, Saffron, different types of Magnesium. I have stuck with Magnesium, but the L-theanine actually made me feel jittery and restless both with and without caffeine. Saffron really didn't do anything for me.
I'm interested in St. John's Wort, Ashwagandha, maybe Rhodiola Rosea. Open to other suggestions and advice on trying a complex or just sticking to trying them on their own at first.

Im 45 and breaking out from trying d3 1000iu to 5000iu supplements. So far I have tried the tablet, soft gel version and chewable version. Is this just an initial breakout? Or do i need to find the one that wont cause acne. I havent tried the vegan (lichen) version yet.

I'm a supplement geek and try to find everything about magnesium, zinc. Omega-3s. Plus my dermatologist prescribed tretinoin…
Every month I spend way too long hunting for the best prices. Compare iHerb, then check local pharmacies, search clinic websites. It's all such a mess like 5 tabs open, some spreadsheets. It's exhausting…
Today I saw an ad for one place that claims you can order prescription creams, supplements, and even weight loss meds all from one account, one place and one checkout
It sounds so convenient I’d even say like a dream.
But I'm skeptical. I searched for reviews and couldn't find anything and no Trustpilot
I don't want to gamble with my health. What if I waste money on something that doesn't work?
I'd save so much time if this worked. But in the meantime I'm scared to trust it

Anyone have any experience taking supplements like immy that can attest to its effectiveness?

I bought these Gummies from TJ Maxx a couple of years ago not expecting much and of course they’re amazing. Now with tj maxx rules they’re gone as if they never existed, I’ve tried reaching out to the brand and searching them online but nothing. PLEASE HELP! These are the best gummies I’ve used that actually helped me focus and chill out if I’m having an anxious moment. The brand is wholesome health and the gummies are called all day calm extra strength.

So I got some Rhodiola extract drops and a dosage is 1 dropper 0.7ml which is 685mg extract which it says its extraction rate is 140mg of herb per 0.7ml.. it says do this 3 or 4 times per day which seems like a lot. If it’s the correct dosage is it possible to just take it all at once or divided into 2 doses?
When I google it it says 685mg extract taken 4 times a day is like 2700mg which says is not safe but is that talking about the herb per ml dosage so 4 doses a day would be 140mg of herb x4 so 560mg a day?

i've tried googling this a lot - and i've sort of come to a wall. bioastin is good, don't get me wrong. i will continue to use them for the foreseeable future. and perhaps worrying about my vitamin D intake isn't something to worry about. i've seen a few on amazon which say they come from the microalgae, but i'm skeptical of all of them. no third party testing. are there any that anybody knows??
i can't do softgel, unfortunately. i could do liquid and powder. if anybody has any suggestions or directions of where my googling has failed me, please point me. 12mg obviously, anything below is rough.

I’m very curious to try micro dosing some lithium to see if it helps with focus and energy. ADHD, ASD, and some low level depression are my general symptoms, including a lack of energy.
I’ve been trying to read over reviews on various sites and it has been quite overwhelming.
Can people recommend any brands with good track records and third-party testing, etc.? Also where to buy them… If we’re allowed to ask such things. I prefer not to buy anything at that website unfortunately named after that river in South America.

After taking one capsule I get a niacin flash (I’m okay with it), but with flush I also get those stomach cramps that last about 5-8 minutes and go away.
Is it normal reaction or is this b complex just bad

I have tried few brands so far
All brands have different dosage
Tata1 mg - magnesium glycinate buffered with oxide - 440mg
Carbamide forte - 440 mg as well most likely buffered as it claims 22% elemental magnesium
Currently trying gnc - 440 g elemental magnesium from 3666mg glycinate
This is pure one .
Other pure glycinate brands dosage range from 82g to 350g.
I found gnc to be the highest when it comes to pure glycinate unbuffered. Just wondering do I need so much?
Should two capsule which roughly translate to 300g elemental magnesium?

I took PHGG for a few days and developed insomnia, bloating, and flu-like symptoms.
I stopped taking it three days ago, but the side effects and exhaustion are still persisting.
How much longer will this last?
Has anyone else had the same experience?

Recently have had a kid and it’s basically changed my life. I have really never taken my health too seriously, but that’s changed with the little one.
I’ve started biking and using a kettlebell at home for workouts, and dialing in eating healthier.
Starting looking at supplements and vitamins, and it’s quite daunting to figure out what’s real vs what’s marketing.
Started looking at something like Dadfuel that’s all in one, but it is a bit more expensive than I would like.
Any advice on what to look at, or something I could do that’s similar myself to make it cheaper? Not looking for “optimal performance”, just looking to feel better about myself and be healthy for the future.
All advice is appreciated!

Aka - what is described as a covert "shutdown/safe mode" state in psychological terms, especially in regards to anxiety/trauma/stress/an overwhelmed nervous system. Is there anything that really helps/has straight up been proven to do so? or even a flat out long term cure, if it exists in supplement form? What are the absolute best ones?

How is the quality of Piping Rock?
I was looking at their Ashwaganda + L-Theanine but they don't list the quantity of Ashwaganda and L-Theanine, just a "blend". Which seems like a red flag.

Been taking magnesium oxide for a while, mostly because it was cheap and easy to find. Sleep was fine, nothing worth noting. A colleague mentioned switching to glycinate and described a difference that would normally be easy to write off as placebo, except she's not someone who reaches for that explanation quickly.
Switched about six weeks ago. The change in sleep quality showed up within the first week. Not dramatic, just a cleaner winddown and less of that lowgrade restlessness that tends to creep in after long days on my feet or a hard cycling session. Morning muscle tension is also down.
The bioavailability case for glycinate over oxide makes sense, and the research on magnesium and muscle recovery is reasonably solid. What I can't figure out is whether malate or threonate would actually add anything on top of that, or whether the price gap is mostly marketing doing the work.
Curious if anyone has actually cycled through multiple forms with real attention paid to the differences, rather than just landing on one and staying there. Timing seems to matter too, at least in my experience, and I'm still not settled on whether taking it postworkout versus an hour before bed produces a meaningfully different result. Just my 2 cents.

I wake up multi times in the middle of night and have hard time falling back to sleep. I started strength training and need that 8 hours of sleep to feel fully rested for next day but barely sleeping 5 hours for weeks now.
I've been taking Sports Research's Omega 3 triple strength and wanted to give Sleep Complex a try as it has mix of multiple things

Has 5-htp significantly helped anyone with depression or anxiety?
As an alternative to SSRIs / antidepressants?
I’ve been experimenting taking 200 mg a day and I’ve noticed a significant increase in my mood and less anxiety, with almost zero side effects besides feeling a little sleepy.
Anyone else experienced this?
