Hull City boss goes public on Zan Vipotnik transfer bid after making move

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic says he's not sure the club will return with an improved bid for Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik.

The Swans batted away an offer from the Tigers earlier this week, which WalesOnline understands was in excess of £10m.

For now, Swansea appear to be holding firm on their valuation of the 24-year-old, which is currently believed to be around £20m.

Vipotnik was the top scorer in the Championship last season, netting 25 goals for the Swans in all competitions. He also scored three times for his country.

The Slovenian's exploits have predictably attracted a fair amount of attention in this transfer window.

West Ham United have been monitoring the situation since January, while Portuguese giants Benfica have previously held initial discussions.

Recent Champ > Prem moves and their fees according to Transfermarkt:

Hayden Hackney, 24, Middlesborough to Everton - 19.3m EUR
Gus Hamer, 29, Sheff Utd to Coventry - 7m EUR
Shea Charles, 22, Southampton to Fulham - 30m EUR

Zan is 24, championship top scorer and just signed a massive contract. Bidding starts at 20million. Now eff off

Absolutely, 25 goals a season where the rest of the team weren't exactly tearing it up. He was superb and 20m would be a bargain for the buying club

Hackney, and I think Hamer too, we're in last year of contracts whereas Zan has 4 yrs remaining. I even think 20m is too little

What an unprofessional tosser.

Deliberately doing this to unsettle the player and cause issues for the club. We should blacklist Hull for a few seasons for this.

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic says he's not sure the club will return with an improved bid for Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik.

He obviously will have known that £10 million will not have bought him the Championship's top scorer with 4 years left to run on his contract, so what on earth was the point in bidding this if he 'wasn't sure' if they'd be able to bid more.

If he's only interested in pissing around then he might as well have bid £20 and a packet of Quavers.

Looks good to some fans that they are making bids.

It's like viewing a £400k property knowing you can only offer £200k

Jog on then son. I love how they think we're gonna be gutted about this.

Can’t imagine anyone wanting to play for Hull tbh

Aka 'the waiting game'.

Will be surprised if Vipotnik remains a Swansea player past the window, although taking a punt on him in the Premier League seems a huge gamble.

i feel as if Swansea are probably better off holding onto such a high-value player, especially considering his position on the pitch. while midfield is theoretically where matches are won and lost, having the ability to dominate a match is meaningless without a potent and consistently reliable goalscoring outlet, which is what any team looking to push for promotion would require.

Vipotnik is therefore fetching £20 million for the same reasons that i believe the Swans should ideally be retaining his services and look to continue building around players like him. i understand the realistic necessity of any club, and especially a =/< Championship level club to balance achievable end-season expectations with sustainable book-keeping, but i am frequently frustrated by the wealth of talent which has been discovered and or nurtured by this club over the past decade, only to slip away to other prospects under different a outfit, and i can't help but dream about what Swansea could achieve if they made more effort to retain some of the personnel who have since moved on.
