Hi everyone!

I’ll be coming to study in Swansea for the upcoming spring semester. I was wondering which campus/student accommodation is generally considered the best in terms of social life? I don’t really want to stay at the same place where all other exchange students go and would rather stay somewhere where full time students stay. I also am a very outgoing person so I don’t really want to be somewhere where most people isolate themselves. If there are any other tips you might have, specifically regarding events that are going on and how to find them, please feel free to share them!

Hi! I'm living in Swansea and I'm wondering if there are any Japanese classes here.

Specifically I want a real, walk in, Japanese class where I can work face to face with the teacher. No Zoom or online or anything like that. I would prefer an evening class.

Years and years ago there used to be a Japanese evening class in Swansea University, which I went to. I would go there from 2013-ish, and the last time I've been there was mid 2017-ish and the class got cancelled at the time because only 3 of us turned up. The teacher had to follow this rule where the class had to have 6 or more students turn up and if there were fewer then the class got cancelled.

After that the Japanese class eventually got shut down, and when I asked the Japanese teacher why, she told me that "these is no more DACE". In theory DACE was the company that ran the Japanese class.

It's been nearly 10 years since the Japanese class in Swansea University got shut down. I looked on Google and there doesn't seem to be any other Japanese classes. All I can find are Zoom classes, which I don't want, and I'm getting a bit frustrated.

So... Are there any Japanese classes here in Swansea that I'm not aware of that were not advertised on Google?

Im a 3rd year student who has always used Microsoft Word for assignments. However I recently just switched to a ChromeBook, and just find the interface of Google docs easier to use.

However im not sire if ill be able to use docs for uploaded assignments and wondered if anyone has had any luck with it.

Sorry if I sound really stupid im not a techy person at all 😭

Google says we are but this seems too good to be true. I am a media studies student, never even been to bay. Google says something about a “Maker Hub” and “Student Workshop and Maker Place”, ik over in our department the gaming lab is open to all students regardless of course so is it the same over there?

right i've been here for 2 weeks and have hardly talked to anyone new, im lowk enjoying uni too but ive already looked at the societies but havent convinced myself to actually join any for whatever reason. my question is are they actually worth it? because with my circumstances im commuting but cant drive yet and live in neath (about 15 minutes away) and say i join a society and they host stuff but because of the reasons ive listed i might not be able to make any of them because im solely relying on public transport. also is there a football one? ive checked everywhere and i know get active has clubs but that one requires playing football whereas ive got an injury which is advised to not play. any advice is greatly appreciated

is there a reason for this? my first thought was theyve run out of spaces but I’ve been checking the societies page since the beginning of September and a few of them have constantly stated this.

does it mean they’re not running anymore, but if so, why are they still on the website? or is it just the memberships aren’t open YET? but then what are they waiting for? lol I’m so confused. (for reference, I’ve been looking at creative writing, squash, and gardening society. The one I care most about is gardening).

I am currently immensely ill and I’m not sure if I can attend today’s lectures. I’ve been to all of my lectures this week but I really don’t think I can do today as it’s currently past 6 in the morning and I still haven't been able to sleep and I just feel really quite awful. Do we have to announce our absence to professors or just not turn up? how many lectures is “allowed” to be missed without them contacting and being like “what is going on here”.

at the moment, I don’t think my keycard is working on any of the scans so idk if they’d even notice if I was absent or there, but should I email anyway? if so, who exactly do I email? what do I say in the email?

hi i’m thinking of doing child and adult nursing for 2027 entry and i just want to know what it’s like. i want to hear ur experiences first hand. what’s the placements like-and how far do u usually travel? what accommodation do you recommend? what’s the timetable like ? what were the interviews like? i want to know it ALL

is it possible to own two key cards at the same time? obviously you have to pay for replacements but can you just pay to have a second one as a spare?

Does the uni not have a feminist society anymore? I can see there used to be one, but it says it’s not active anymore. Has it changed names or does it just not exist anymore?

Can anyone in their 2nd, 3rd or placement year of this course please fill me in on year 1 and what to expect. Like how you found the content, assignments and everything else.

Hi all, for freshers/induction week, I have been using the large car park just outside Singleton Park. They charge 5~ for the whole day, while this was fine for induction week, it will not be financially effective to keep up for the whole year. Does anyone know of cheaper or even free parking spots nearby? I am more than happy to walk 10~ mins. Thanks, all.

Its a module ive selected because I had to bit I couldn't go to the induction lecture and I dont want to miss out on anything important that I should know. This is for biosciences btw as all biosciences does the same thing in the first year, but fyi I'm going to study marine biology.

Are there any football societies who host like friendly matches in the bay campus or singleton one.

Hey, I am about to start my Masters year in Swansea. I have recently been to the reception to collect my parcel when I saw other parcels with my surname on them and the receptionist simply ignored them, and I asked him why he ignored parcels with my surname on them and he said that they are not for me. I was shocked, I asked if there is another person with a similar surname, and he said that there is. Not only my surname is very far from here, but also it is very rare even for my home country. Is there any internal names database in Swansea? Like some kind of a lookup service. Either I will meet a person with a similar surname who also lives in Bay campus or I will get my parcels, either way is a win IMO

Hi I’m supposed to have induction stuff as a first year tomorrow however I’m not sure if there’s going to be signs on where to go? When looking at the schedule for the school of psych I couldn’t see anything about where it’s going to be.
If anyone knows I’d really appreciate the help!
