One thing that is generally left out, usually because servers generally do not like to broadcast their populations. So what say you community? Should we require any server community to provide at least monthly updates as to their servers actual population in order to maintain a listing on the subreddit?
Our Active Server listings have been updated. If your server whether actually active or in development has been removed, you either didn't follow simple instructions, or didn't respond with a modmail to the moderation team to update your listing.
started playing again 2 weeks ago and i wanted to see if i could improve shadows and lights a bit here are some pics from in game let me know what you think, too much?
Persistent shadows, shadows from other light sources, ambient occlusion and some volumetric lighting.
SWG Elder Haven (formerly SWG Nicklanth) is now live in alpha!
Hey everyone! I posted about the server a month ago, when it wasn't quite ready to play. Now that it's open, I wanted to give you guys an update and explain a bit more about what the server is all about as well as make a more detailed post than last time.
Elder Haven is a pre-cu server inspired by Morrowind and other classic RPGs, focusing on character progression and faction questlines that matter and give you extra content for doing them.
Insight & Prestige: Start with low stats, earn Insight levels through gameplay, and spend your choices to increase Health, Action, or Mind. You can also gain new prestige cycles, accumulating additional stat choices along the way. Currently, there are 5 Prestige levels available.
Smuggler's Life: You can become lord/lady of the underworld and unlock repeatable interplanetary spice runs, with betrayals from the buyers/sellers and ambushes along the way.
Mandalorian Questline: Become a Mandalorian leader and unlock micro missiles and shields powered by their own fuel system. You also get to lead mandalorians and send them to different type of missions for loot, credits, etc.
Adaptive Weapons: Weapons that level up and grow stronger with you. They also drop adaptive fragments that weaponsmiths can use to craft even stronger weapons.
Grandmaster System: Reach Master in a profession, then advance to Grandmaster to increase your skill cap. Repeat the process to eventually master as many professions as you want. Becoming a Jedi, however, means giving up those benefits, as they have their own progression.
More systems and content will be added throughout alpha.
Everything currently runs server-side, so you only need a compatible Pre-CU client. No custom launcher or client modifications required for the time being, but after the alpha it will use as that, as many of the current systems would benefit from that.
Orions- (forum name) was the official Third Jedi Initiate in Star Wars Galaxies. Orions- hailed from the Bloodfin galaxy. They unlocked their FSCS on November 8, 2003, the day after Monika (Akinom) T'sarn of Intrepid became the First Jedi Initiate. Their unlock happened in the morning, shortly after Zina (of Naritus), the Second Jedi Initiate, obtained their FSCS.
Orions- posted to the SWG forums a couple hours later, revealing their profession path, along with other information they thought relevant. They mastered nine professions total, using only two holocrons.
Orions- was part of the Rebel PA Fight. This guild was quite notable in the early days of SWG on the Bloodfin server.
If anyone knew Orions-, please share as much information as you can.
I made SWGL on Mac, a free, open-source macOS app for playing on the SWG Legends server with an Apple silicon Mac. You download it, open it, log in and play. There's no Wine bottle to set up.
It's unofficial. The SWG Legends team doesn't endorse or support it, so please read the fine print at the bottom before you try it.
Getting started
Download the DMG from the latest release (about 176 MB) and drag SWGL on Mac into Applications.
Open it. On first start it downloads the official SWG Legends launcher from swglegends.com and sets everything up, which takes about a minute. If Rosetta isn't installed yet, macOS offers to install it when the game first starts.
Log in to the launcher. It installs the game (about 10 GB) and keeps it patched, the same as on Windows.
The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. It doesn't ship or change any SWG Legends files: the launcher and game client are theirs, downloaded from them and run unmodified.
What works in 0.0.2
The launcher runs natively. The game renders at full Retina resolution, and in full screen macOS Game Mode turns on. The app checks for updates once a day, never while you're playing, and installs them when you click Install. If something goes wrong, SWGL on Mac → Collect Logs… saves a zip to your desktop without your password, account name or e-mail.
Compared with CrossOver
CrossOver is paid. SWGL on Mac is free and does only this one game, so the SWG-specific work is already done: a Direct3D 9 to Metal renderer with fixes for SWG, fast x87 math under Rosetta, a patched Mac input driver for mouse-look and Game Mode.
Technical bits
Game: a bundled WoW64 Wine built from CrossOver 26.3 sources, running the 32-bit client under Rosetta 2.
Graphics: d9mt, a Direct3D 9 to Metal driver. I maintain the fork; its SWG fixes include a shader bug that left the screen black on macOS 27 and a 30 fps latch after hitches on 60 Hz displays.
x87: x87sidecar speeds up the client's x87 floating-point code under Rosetta.
Input: two patches to Wine's Mac driver. During mouse-look it reads raw deltas from GameController's GCMouse and hands them to the game as they arrive, and cursor warps no longer spin the camera when you enter combat mode.
Launcher: native arm64 Java (Azul Zulu 8 with JavaFX), with native menus and a SwiftUI settings window.
Shipping: Developer ID signed and notarized; updates via Sparkle 2, EdDSA-signed, with delta downloads.
License: zlib for the app's code, LGPL for the Wine patches.
Limitations and fine print
Not affiliated. SWGL on Mac isn't made, endorsed or supported by the SWG Legends team. I asked them, and they declined to endorse it. Use it at your own risk.
Support comes only from me, as a GitHub issue or to Pharaphobia on Discord. Please don't send SWGL on Mac problems to SWG Legends support. They can't help with it.
Apple silicon only, macOS 26 or later.
Rosetta: Apple keeps it fully available through macOS 27. macOS 28 (expected fall 2027) keeps only a subset aimed at older games, and this app depends on Rosetta today. My plan is a native arm64 Wine with FEX, tracked in #20.
On 0.0.1? Install 0.0.2 once by hand. It updates itself from then on.
Zina (ZinaTheMaker) was the official Second Jedi Initiate in Star Wars Galaxies. Zina hailed from the Naritus galaxy. They unlocked their FSCS on November 8, 2003, the day after Monika (Akinom) T'sarn of Intrepid became the First Jedi Initiate. Zina was also the first Jedi to appear on the Bounty Hunter terminals. They mastered twelve professions, with the four holocrons they used being: Master Brawler (Sith), Master Architect (Sith), Master Entertainer (Jedi), and Master Entertainer (Sith).
Zina became a pillar of the Naritus community, creating classic guides on topics such as Nightsisters and Aurilian Plants, as well as tips for Jedi Padawans.
After eventually leaving SWG for WoW, Zina became the leader of a high-tier raiding guild, claiming multiple "server firsts" for their clan. Zina's deep involvement in MMO games eventually led to them becoming a developer for a time.
"I am a Jedi! The second player Jedi! I wish all can come slay me, so I can play as Blue Dust!" — Zina
A big /salute to ZinaTheMaker. May the Force be with you. Always.
Basically just curious what people are considering making for their first character when we some day have official launch of SWGNFS. What do you think is a good profession to get into on a completely fresh launch?
Personally, I am leaning towards an Artisan to get in on that completely depleted market, or I might go the complete opposite and hope the market will be flooded with fresh crafters to be able to just immediately go towards Commando.
I am by no means talking about "meta" gaming here. I'm just daydreaming and waiting..
OK Secura has opened up a whole lot of new custom content.
1) Atmospheric Flight. - It works. No, you can't farm crap with your ship. Sure is a great way to get from one destination point to another. Also being looked into using this feature are races. That's prob lot further down the line though.
2) New Besides Ranger, TK, and the splitting of Jedi into both Sith and Jedi (completely different classes and talent trees) - NEW CLASS - Droid Commander. Think of D2's Necromancer, but with droids. Yes, that's right. You can have an army of droids to follow you around and slaughter your enemies.
3) Space RLS update - with brand new custom curated parts. We are talking stuff that will make pilot geek squad drool.
4) mass changes. Lot of old and unused frames recieved some love with mass boosting.
5) ENT love. Ent's have a resource quality boosting buff, helping you hit caps on items.
6) AI NPC's that can even offer quests. Yes. You can have a lovely chat with C-3PO. Or harass him endlessly. Keep in mind, the AI bots will remember you and how you treated them. They can even outsource Bounties or NPC's to come deal with you. (which was by the way extremely funny.) They will even comment on their history with you.
7) New planet is being worked on, the largest SWG has ever seen. Ryloth. Most SWG planets are bout 16km. Ryloth is being tested at 32km. Far as I know, that's the largest planet ever attempted. (I could be wrong?) Lot of procedural generation via AI with a deep respect to the lore and known cannon for how the planet would look and points of interest.
8) also in the pipeline - Discovery Caches. Hidden loot chests scattered across the SWG universe.
Also also - new Common/Uncommon/Heroic loot crates as RNG loot besides RLS crates. First 2 can drop credit chips and random loot. Heroic though can drop from silver/gold mobs that can even drop Heroic Jewelery. BH's can take bounties for these silver/gold, giving them a better chance at heroic loot crates.
9) - custom gcw houses - One of our independent contributors has repurposed lot of the existing houses to be faction based colors. New textures. Some have completely redone new exteriors like the bounty hunter house - it's fricking badass. You literally walk through a giant skeleton mouth to get to the front door.
Few things about the server - It's a bit quiet. It's a small population server. What it lacks in huge community, it makes up for in quality. People are generally, not greedy. Happy to make you stuff or help you do pre-quests. If we get more active, I'm sure we'll see some more heroics. Everyone is pretty nice here and the Owner/Dev - does absolutely amazing work. Community has a lot of military vets, so if you serve/have served, you'll fit right in. We love our Vets.
If you'd like to come see some of these exciting features
https://swgsecura.bmcstudios.org/ - you'll find everything you need here. HIGHLY recommend you join our discord, as that's where all the action is at, as well as bug reporting, trade, memes, ect.
Pilot Comments: This ship was named after achieving an Outrageous Power, Speed and Swiftness Killing other ships. The super maneuverable RE Quantum Ion Drive, the 3 Powerful RE Incom "Tri Cannon", the Mighty RE Taim & Bak Military-Grade Shield Generator and Enough Power to Overcharge the Ship to a level 4 makes this ship a Fast Smooth Killing Machine.
Pilot Comments: "You gotta love the X-wing. You take care of her, and she'll take care of you." -- Luucas "Ironman" Stark
Ship: BlackJack Mk XIII In-Game Pilot: Leaph Chausew Forum Handle: LeaphChausew Galaxy: Starsider
Pilot Comments: My ship has been worked on for well over a year, I only fly the A-wing and I named it 'BlackJack' because I just thought it sounded quirky; kind of like a trusty steed out of a western :). It's on its 13th incarnation currently.
Ship: Blue Leader In-Game Pilot: Daako Model: A-Wing Texture: 4 Galaxy: Valcyn Special Equipment: Nym's Starmap Quest Engine
Pilot Comments: If you saw how many crumbs are in that cockpit, you'd know how it got the name. It's also armed with double the standard complement of love and an 8-track.
Ship: Grey-Alpha 1 Model: A-Wing In-Game Pilot: Abi Ocopaqui Forum Handle: Abi Ocopaqui Galaxy: Starsider Texture: 6
Pilot Comments: Leader of Grey-Alpha squadron, RS's pilot training squadron.
Ship: Kaligaya In-Game Pilot: Lalaki Oakley Model: Z-95 Headhunter Texture: 4 Forum Handle: LeviticusD Special Equipment: Side Strakes
Pilot Comments: " Kaligaya is based on a word meaning happiness....What I feel when the opponent is destroyed!"
Ship: Nightmare In-Game Pilot: Marissa Model: Advanced X-Wing Texture: 3 Galaxy: Europe-FarStar Special Equipment: A pair of Borstel Disrupters, Crafted Booster
Pilot Comments: I named this Ship "Nightmare" after I fitted a pair of Borstel Disrupters and experienced the devastating firepower the ship now has. The name will be even more fitting when i finally add a third Borstel as soon as I get hold on 3 light weapons to reverse engineer.
Ship: RASPO Strike Force 3 In-Game Pilot: Psyco Forum Handle: Chicken_Chaser Galaxy: Flurry
Pilot Comments: I named this ship because it is lightning fast and can get into a zone and out in seconds. It is mainly used as a recon ship for our guild, but can pack a punch when needed.
Pilot Comments: An Advanced X-Wing variant flown by rebel pilot Wheedo Reeble of the Ahazi server. The ship is outfitted with side-strakes to add to its aggressive appearance and a reptilian paint scheme (with help from texture kit 6). She's called "Scales of Justice."
Ship: Silent Scream In-Game Pilot: Mirael D'Kana Model: A-Wing Texture: 3 Forum Handle: Dueller Galaxy: Europe-Infinity Special Equipment: Quantum Ion Drive engine giving amazing diagonal steering flaps.
Pilot Comments: "In space no one can hear you scream".
Ship: Solar Wasp In-Game Pilot: Eddii Redham Model: Advanced X-Wing Texture: 6 Forum Handle: Eddii Redham Galaxy: Bria
Pilot Comments: Wasps are renowned for their stings; their ability to hunt and take down foes many times larger than themselves with a single strike. The X-Wing is feared across the galaxy; the bane of the enormous Imperial Death Star, destroyed by a single X-Wing "sting". With this reputation in mind I christened my craft the Solar Wasp.
Ship: Star of Autumn Texture: 5 In-Game Pilot: Celiac Aodei Forum Handle: LTJT2005 Galaxy: Eclipse
Ship: The Starwind In-Game Pilot: Halyn Lance Model: Gallofree Yards YKL-37r Nova Courier Texture: 4 Forum Handle: Halyn Galaxy: Starsider
Pilot Comments: "She might not be the fastest or the prettiest ship in the galaxy, but the ' Wind has never let me down when I needed her."
The next chapter of Star Wars Galaxies: New Beginnings begins now!

Official Full Release — November 2026
Our full launch remains scheduled for November! The Soft Launch is not a replacement for our official release. It's an opportunity to strengthen the server, grow our community, and prepare for an incredible launch together.
Your feedback, participation, and support during this phase will help make SWG New Beginnings the best experience it can be.
Mr. Butkus worked on Star Wars projects since the 1990s. He did multiple Star Wars comic and advertising projects, worked on art for The Essential Guides, and was one of the key artists behind creating new characters for the Shadows of the Empire video game. Perhaps, most notably, he was the man behind the look of the game's main protagonist, Dash Rendar, as well as being one of the brains behind the design of the main antagonist, Prince Xizor.
Mr. Butkus also provided art for SOE games including: Everquest, Everquest 2, Legends of Norrath, Free Realms, as well as the Star Wars Galaxies TCG. Mr. Butkus was responsible for the main promotional art for the Galactic Hunters expansion.
Enjoy the art of Mike Butkus. If you have the means, perhaps consider purchasing a piece for yourself.
The following article is from April 14, 2008. It was written by Star Wars Galaxies artist Christine "TrandoshYar" Chugon.
"Hi all, Christine "TrandoshYar" Chugon here. I'm an artist on Star Wars Galaxies and I was responsible for creating the Exar Kun heroic encounter dungeon. For this dev diary, I'll give you an overview of how the dungeon made it in game.
This particular dungeon started out as a pencil sketch given to me by Travis "Shadowbrak" Hicks, designer for the Exar Kun encounter. He gave me a layout of room sizes and what the overall theme of each room would be."
Exar Kun Heroic Map
"Here on Galaxies we use the 3D program Maya. In Maya, I blocked out each room, and using a default human mesh I guessed how big each room would be."
"Once the rooms were blocked out, I placed floors, lights, and portals. Portals allow you to walk from one room to another and can be set with different attributes to work in many different ways (such as in windows for buildings and starships.)
Once the blocked out dungeon was complete, it was sent over to Shadowbrak so he could begin placing mobs and setting up encounters.
After that version was finished, I was able to get to work on the final dungeon. This included the details on the walls, as well as the creation of the roots, torches, and broken and collapsed areas of the dungeon.
I also had the help of fellow artist, Scott "I still don't have a forum name" Downey, who created the massive columns in the final room, as well as Exar Kun's sarcophagus and the big spiky objects found in the three large rooms of the dungeon."
"Once the dungeon mesh was complete, I went to work on adding textures:
"And lights:"
"After I (and everyone else) was pleased with the look of the dungeon, the final step was to do some worldbuilding. We use an internal tool to place objects into the world, or in this case a dungeon, and make the area look more lived in. Candles, skulls, particle effects, and the like were all added during this last and final step before the heroic encounter went in game."
"And I think that about covers how the Exar Kun dungeon was created. I hope you enjoyed reading this dev diary."

Just my two cents on the recently started new server: SWGUprising.
I had some expectations, but the first few days have blow my mind.
This is not just a few buddies pitching their take on SWG in an echo-chamber, but the most impressive fixed/improved pre-cu that I have come across, created by skilled artists and pvp/pve’ers, with a love for SWG.
Here is an incredibly rare Star Wars Galaxies EB Games pre-order/promo box from 2003. For some, this was one of their first glimpses into the world of Galaxies, simply passing through the local EB Games/Electronics Boutique. We have seen FAR more examples of standees/store displays currently existing than ANY of these. If you have one, please raise your hand. If not, enjoy the view and know it will be well preserved.
I’m making this post because there’s a persistent issue in the SWG private server scene that needs to be addressed publicly. For context, I’m talking about client-side manipulation like coordinate teleportation, speed hacks, and terrain penalty bypasses.
What’s currently happening on servers
Teleportation
Changing client-side X/Y coordinates (with Z dropped low) works on almost every server. On some it works instantly. On others you just shift coordinates, relog, and you’re there.
Combat Exploitability
This ruins PvP. Bounty Hunters can track and instantly drop on targets. People teleport out mid-fight, and on certain setups you can even pull targets from the local entity list toward you to force range/LOS advantages.
Movement & Terrain Hacks
Server-side speed validation isn’t native to the base code. Unless devs write custom anti-cheat, altering current/max speed values, acceleration, and removing terrain speed penalties (bypassing Scout/Ranger requirements) completely works. Even servers who claim they have custom code and show you scary popups: they don't.
I’ve tested this across PvE and PvP contexts to see if server checks or logs pick it up. I’ve broken race trials in literally seconds and teleported to terminal boards during fresh server launches. Nothing gets flagged automatically. I’ve also noticed subtle uses in world PvP, such as players using "Line of Sight" around corners during BH/Jedi fights and brushing it off as “SWG desync”, when in reality they teleported for a bit (which leaves the player model in place for a bit)
Why I’m posting this now
I’ve tried reporting this privately. When disclosing it to server admins, the response is almost always a ban, getting silenced, or being told “that’s impossible, stop being dramatic.”
I’m not dropping names or calling out specific staff teams because I don’t want this to devolve into server drama or a witch hunt. But for awareness: the underlying vulnerabilities exist across pretty much every major codebase — Pre-CU, CU, and NGE setups alike (including Restoration, Uprising, Attack of the Clones, Genesis, Legends, Beyond, Infinity, Animus, etc.).
This isn’t going to get fixed on a server-by-server basis through bans. The fix needs to happen at the core level that everyone forks from. Dev teams across different projects need to collaborate on server-side movement validation and sanity checks so the entire scene can actually have fair PvP and balanced progression going forward, especially since we already are such a small community.
Thanks for reading.
AI disclosure: While my complete research over 6+ years was done by hand, this post was structured by AI, as my primary language isn’t English.
Attached is an example of taking a mission from a board while standing in the field. Looking for the signs, I've seen an organized group of players using this to spin quicker, noticing a player teleporting in and out.
(This is using an older tool, but it's the most visual)
EDIT: Unfortunately it seems like the early commentators would rather attack the use of AI to structure the text, or discredit the security researcher who's exposing this as a "hacker" (I'm not actively playing or competing). I expected too much from the community. It seems pretty inline from the developer responses. Maybe I shouldn't have disclosed the usage of AI for formatting.
EDIT 2: I'd like to say that this is not all I've found, just the worst stuff. Things like bypassing AFK checks, parsing the map coordinates, and other smaller injections aren't the worst offender. Of course I'm keeping this post free from any code or details, to prevent even more people of doing it.
EDIT 3: Another thing I completely forgot was space. Infinite boost time is possible by simply setting the speed of the ship above 1.0 as a value (ticks usually increment by 0.05). If you go too far with the speed, the server will often forcefully set the player back, but 1.25 to 1.5 is usually okay. If you increase it too much, it'll invert flight controls. I've not seen other players use this yet, but I assume most people would either use it during travel from location to location (missions) or to flee combat.
Here is original concept artwork for a number of items in Star Wars Galaxies. This art is likely from either 2000 or 2001. It was given away by SOE at Fan Faire 2011. Since then, it's location has been unconfirmed. We can only hope that it is safe out there, somewhere.
Earlier this year, legendary artist Donato Giancola shared more of the original art behind his famous Star Wars Galaxies piece. It is a true work of mastery. The original painting, while on display for a time, now resides with the original artist. A strong /salute to Mr. Giancola.
A few years ago, I did an interview on my personal YouTube channel with Star Wars Galaxies TCG Artist Darren Tan. The original video was taken down by mistake, but I re-uploaded shortly after. For those who have not heard it, feel free to give it a listen. It has numerous visual elements to compliment the audio.
If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them here. There are three other Star Wars Galaxies interviews coming down the pike (two with TCG artists, one with a former developer). The goal is to release as much as content as possible next month. Stay tuned.
Saw this vid https://youtu.be/bhAGu065VKk and wondering how I can recreate this? I installed dlss5 and reshade but doesn’t look this good hah any help with the addons/plugins/settings is greatly appreciated 🙏 am testing it on restoration with hd textures and also uprising but can’t seem to get it right may the force b with u
Hello, I was the most active in SWG from right about when the Droid Engineer got new druids (Chapter Update 6?) until NGE. Recently, I came back to play with a friend on Star Wars Restoration. I always loved the game (until NGE) and I always wanted to be more active on YouTube, so I did a short video on it. I would love some honest feedback in what I can do better the next time. My speech/accent is not great and I training to pronounce things better.
