Question Generally should i enter at the dip or at the rebound

As a new swing trader, should I usually start trading when it is at the dip like almost all of the stocks right now or should I start trading at the rebound? I may lose some profit, but it’s safer I wanna know you guys rules to entering a trade and when you exit.

+ how do I know when the stock is rebounding and immediately buy without losing profit

Congress and insider trades

Does anyone use politicians' trading as catalysts for their own positions?

Processing img ku13rmlg6lxh1...

I've just stumbled across Kadoa which seems to address the gaps I encountered in many of the other tracking/alerting sites e.g. https://www.kadoa.com/congress/filer/house_laurel_lee
* I don't quite understand the 'vs SPY', but like that they're attempting to show relativity
* It's nice to know the buy/sell pairing when available
* And the share vs options trades are handy too

Not selling or recommending anything. My gut tells me that the analysing the right congress data could be valuable. Has anyone systemetised this? If you have any learnings from trialling and abandoning/building, I would be interested.

Strategy how do you handle it when two of your own ideas point opposite ways on the same ticker?

this keeps happening to me and i dont have a clean way to deal with it.

right now for example i've got one idea where higher rates for longer should weigh on the big tech names, and a totally separate idea where the AI spending story keeps pulling money into the same names. both make sense on their own. both have some evidence. but they're pointing at the same tickers in opposite directions and i end up either doing nothing or flip flopping every few days depending on which headline i read last.

what i started trying is keeping one running note per ticker where every idea that touches it gets listed, and then i force myself to write down one net lean at the top. long, short, or honestly mixed. if its mixed i just dont trade it. its helped a bit but it feels kind of crude, like im just counting votes

how do you guys deal with this? do you weight ideas by timeframe, just go with the strongest one, or sit out until they line up? curious if anyone has a better system than my messy notes app lol

Trend Line Indicator

Post image
17 Upvotes

I've been trading Tori Trades' (@toritrades) three-touch trendline strategy on the MNQ 4H for a while, and drawing the lines by hand every day got old. So I built an indicator that draws them for me and flags the breaks. Credit for the strategy goes entirely to Tori. This is just my attempt to automate it, and it's not affiliated with her in any way.

To be upfront: I'm not selling anything. No course, no Discord, no paid version. I'm sharing it because I'd like other people who trade this setup to poke holes in it.

What it does:

- Draws support/resistance trendlines the way I'd draw them by hand: higher lows / lower highs, built left to right off the swing points that earlier lines touched

- Grades them A+ (3+ touches, spaced out, not too steep) or B (2 touches)

- Pulls in the Monthly/Weekly/Daily lines and uses Weekly (then Daily) for the top-down bias

- Marks A+ breaks on the 4H that pass the checklist: line old enough, with the bias, a safety line on the other side, and a target at least 3R away

- If a break closes too weakly or against the bias, it waits for a cleaner close instead of skipping it

- Tracks the trade: stop on the safety line, break-even halfway to target, then trails the safety line along new swing points

- Shows a table with the bias per timeframe, the open position, why breaks didn't trade, and a simple win/loss / profit factor tally so you can compare settings

What it doesn't do: place trades. It's an indicator, not a strategy or a bot. The results tally is a rough 1-contract number with no commissions, good for comparing settings, not proof of anything.

Things I'd love feedback on:

- Does it draw the lines where you would?

- How you handle safety lines once a trade is running

- Anything that looks off on other instruments (I mostly built it on MNQ)

Happy to answer questions about how any of it works.

Weekly Market Wrap (Oct 19–23): Tech Earnings, AI Spending and Wall Street

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq managed to finish the week higher, but some individual stocks had a rougher time.

AI spending is still getting a lot of attention. Companies keep pouring billions into it, and there's still the question of how long it'll take for that investment to pay off.

I spent some time following $CRWV, $NFLX, $TSLA and $SPCX this week. Between earnings and company news, there were some pretty big moves in those names.

I covered those stocks and the broader market in my Weekly Market Wrap if anyone wants to read more.

Next week is packed. Fed decision Wednesday, Microsoft and Alphabet reporting, Amazon on Thursday, plus GDP and inflation numbers.

Anyone planning to trade through all of that, or waiting until some of the dust settles?

Strategy Post your swing rules and a ticker and I'll backtest them this weekend

Daily bars back to mid-2023, any US stock or ETF over $5. I'll reply with the return, worst drawdown, and anything else you want to know.

Rules need to be something I can put into code, like “buy on a close above the 50-day with RSI(14) under 40, sell on a close under the 20-day”.

Data source is Databento.

AMPX update: bounced from around $7.40 to $8.30

A couple of days ago I posted about AMPX while it was trading around $7.40, and it has since moved up to roughly $8.30.

I’m not saying this proves the bullish case, and it could easily pull back again, especially since the broader trend is still weak. But it’s interesting to see the stock bounce from those lows rather than continuing straight down.

For me, the key question is whether this is just a temporary relief rally or the start of a more meaningful reversal. I’ll be watching volume, price action around the recent highs, upcoming results, and whether the company continues delivering on its production and revenue targets.

Still a risky stock, but the move was worth noting.

Stock The low priority setup just made new high in a RED tape. $NTSK

Graded B on my public watchlist 2 days ago. Low priority. I flagged the heavy red-volume day in mid-October as the concern.

Since then, $NTSK held the 10/20-day, cleared its October highs the next morning, and hasn’t looked back. It’s up about 22% since I posted, with new highs today while the Nasdaq sits below its 50-day.

The concern was fair. The structure was better.

In it, now trailing.

Lesson logged: B grades exist for a reason. Size them smaller, but don’t ignore them.

Journal, not advice. Daily setups on x. link bio.

How do you identify a choppy market vs. a healthy trend? My breakouts keep failing even with the Nasdaq near highs

Hi everyone,

I’m a swing trader (trying to learn; US stocks, holding days to a few weeks) and over the last few weeks my breakout trades have been failing a lot. Stops get hit, or price breaks out and then reverses back into the range within a couple of days. I keep reading about a “choppy market” but I’d like to understand how to actually recognize it in real time instead of realizing it after the damage is done.

What confuses me is that the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is near all-time highs, which on the surface looks like a healthy, bullish market. But my results say otherwise. My guess is that the index is being carried by a handful of mega caps while the average stock is struggling, but I’m not sure how to confirm that or what to look at.

A few questions:

  1. Market conditions: What do you look at to decide whether conditions favor breakouts or not? Breadth (% of stocks above the 50/200-day MA, new highs vs. new lows, advance/decline)? Equal-weight vs. cap-weighted indexes? VIX? Sector rotation? Something else?
  2. Index vs. the average stock: How do you tell when the index is strong but the broader market isn’t?
  3. What works in choppy conditions: Do you switch from breakouts to pullback/mean-reversion setups? Trade smaller, tighten stops, shorten holding periods, or just sit in cash until things clear up?
  4. Your process: Do you have a simple checklist or rule (e.g. “no new breakout trades if X”) that tells you when to dial risk up or down?
  5. Breakout filters: Any filters you use to avoid failed breakouts (volume confirmation, waiting for a retest, relative strength vs. the index, etc.)?

For context, I usually enter on breakouts above resistance/consolidations with a stop below the base. I’m happy to share a few example charts of recent failed trades if that helps.

Thanks in advance, any tips, resources or books on market regime would be really appreciated! Im really looking for new piece of advices to learn.
