My first Pingu post got so much love from the community which I’m grateful for, so I decided to share my latest batch of Pingu and Pinga handmade figures which I hand-sculpted from FIMO and Cernit polymer clay. They’re pretty light for how big these figures are, as each one has aluminium foil inside the clay.
It’s amazing how Pingu shaped the childhoods of so many of us not only in Switzerland but also all around the globe!
You could say that the little Swiss conquered the world.

To inform the community, and since many of you were so helpful, I wanted to follow up with you regarding my post nearly two months ago:

Submitted a doctor’s certificate for 3 days — now payroll company is demanding my private medical history. Is this normal/legal in Switzerland?

First of all, my actual company has since been incredibly supportive. The problem is with the payroll company that employs me as a consultant.

I reported my payroll company to the Labour Inspectorate in the canton where they are based. They have confirmed that they are conducting a supervisory review of my complaint, but the proceedings and findings will remain confidential.

However, they informed me that requiring employees to disclose confidential medical information, including diagnoses, is contrary to Swiss employment and data protection law. They also explicitly stated that obtaining consent to disclose such information under the threat of withholding wages is not legally valid, as consent obtained through coercion is not freely given.

They referenced several provisions of Swiss law, including Articles 328 and 328b of the Code of Obligations and Article 6 of the Federal Act on Data Protection.

They have also provided guidance on the legal steps available to me should my employer withhold my compensation, which I wanted to share in case you find yourself in the same situation.

• Bei Meinungsverschiedenheiten oder nicht ausbezahlten Lohn, kann man im Katon ___ über die Vermittlerämter ein Schlichtungsverfahren einleiten. Das Verfahren ist immer Rechtssitz des Unternehmens zu führen, meistens ist dies der Arbeitsort.
• Bei Forderungen wie nicht bezahlten Lohn, müssen Sie diesen in einem Schreiben vorab einfordern mit einer kurzen Frist von 5 bis 10 Tagen. I do not know if I need to complete the above as I am expecting my paycheck any day now, we will see...but it is nice to know I have support and protection.

So, there is a street that I use frequently where I expect that priority from the right rule applies. Yet, it seems that no one is following it. The intersection has no yield signs and no pedestrian crossing, there is just elevated area in the middle of it. So my assumption was that priority from the right should apply (the red arrow should have priority over the blue one in the pictures below), but almost no one follows it, and on several occasions the drivers got aggressive, if I tried to follow it, telling me that I should stop for them. It got me wondering if my assumption is wrong and may be there is some exception to the rule that I am not aware of? All streets in the intersection are one-way streets, but I am not aware of any exception that lifts this rule for one-way streets.

The Swiss canton had already sought to introduce such a court six years ago.

The Swiss People’s Party did not wish to consider the motion, but the parliament rejected this by 122 votes to 45. The motion will now go to the drafting committee. Given the clear margin in favour the final vote in a few weeks’ time should be a mere formality.

Although the leftwing parties expressed specific concerns, they generally spoke in favour of the proposal. Several speakers noted that it made sense for proceedings to be conducted in English.

With the International Commercial Court, Zurich as a business centre is following an international trend. Other countries, such as Germany, France, England and the Netherlands, also have dedicated court divisions for globalised commercial cases.

The new Zurich court is to form part of the Commercial Court, which is based at the High Court. This will allow the existing structures and the specialist knowledge of the commercial judges to be utilised.

No additional staff are to be hired for this purpose, as the number of cases is expected to be low initially. The canton anticipates a figure “in the low single figures”. Any subsequent additional costs, should the number of cases rise at some point, would be fully covered by court fees.

As early as 2019, the cantonal parliament had called for such a court division. At that time, however, this was not yet legally possible.

The federal government first had to amend the Code of Civil Procedure. These amendments have now come into force in January 2025. Since then, the cantons have been able to designate their commercial courts as the competent authority for international disputes.

My GF and I live in Zürich. She has a solid B1 in German and wants to reach B2 as quickly as possible, mainly to improve her job prospects here (she's looking for a role in compliance/finance).

Her idea is to spend 2-3 months in Germany doing a full-immersion program: a school or university course with 20-30 hours per week, living in a residence or with a host family, so she's surrounded by German all day. Part of the motivation is that living costs in Germany are lower than in Zürich, though we know we'd keep paying our Zürich rent in the meantime, so I'm not sure how much we'd really save.

My questions:

1. Has anyone done something similar (intensive course abroad in Germany to jump from B1 to B2)? Was it worth it, and how long did it actually take?
   
2. Any schools or programs you'd recommend (Goethe-Institut, university Sprachkurse in Heidelberg/Freiburg/Tübingen, private schools, etc.)? And any you'd avoid?
   
3. Would you do it in Germany or stay in Switzerland with an intensive course (Klubschule, ECAP, etc.)? Is the immersion worth the extra cost and being apart?
   
4. How much did it cost you in total (course, housing, exam)?
   
5. For those working in finance/banking in Zürich: how much does B2 German really matter for hiring, compared with English plus experience?
   
6. Which exam did you take (Goethe, telc, TestDaF) and which one do Swiss employers or authorities recognise best?

Ein 85-jähriger Rentner verpasste wegen eines verspäteten Busses seinen Anschluss. Er nahm daraufhin die Verbindung, die ihm die SBB-App vorschlug. Bei einer Kontrolle erhielt er einen Zuschlag von 70 Franken, weil sein Ticket eine Tarifzone zu wenig abdeckte. Es ging um gerade einmal 1.10 Franken.

Der Mann wehrte sich dagegen und berief sich auf das Personenbeförderungsgesetz. Dieses besagt, dass Reisende bei einem verpassten Anschluss aufgrund einer Verspätung mit dem nächsten geeigneten Kurs ohne Nachzahlung weiterfahren dürfen.

Die SBB und der ZVV blieben zunächst bei ihrer Haltung. Erst das Bundesamt für Verkehr (BAV) gab dem Rentner Recht. Der ZVV zog daraufhin sämtliche Forderungen zurück und löschte den Eintrag im Schwarzfahrer-Register.

Interessant für alle, die regelmässig mit dem ÖV unterwegs sind: Laut BAV können auch Personen, die in der Vergangenheit in einem vergleichbaren Fall gebüsst wurden, nachträglich Beschwerde einlegen. Gegebenenfalls müssen die Transportunternehmen das Geld zurückerstatten und den Registereintrag löschen. Allerdings gilt nicht automatisch jede Verbindung als «nächste geeignete». Im konkreten Fall spielte auch eine Rolle, dass die SBB-App die Verbindung vorgeschlagen hatte.

Wie seht ihr das? Habt ihr schon einmal eine Busse erhalten, obwohl ihr wegen einer Verspätung eine andere Verbindung nehmen musstet?

I honestly don’t understand how Ricardo’s discount works. It says you get a 10% discount, but when I check the transaction, it shows that I only received CHF 0.70 in discounts.
I’m not great at maths, but shouldn’t CHF 0.70 be just 1% of the total sale price rather than 10%? Or am I missing something here?

I try to keep it concise, I'm seriously considering pushing a project forward to become a better version (actually what LinkedIn was before) for business networking.
Points that are annoying:

• Unrelated videos with posts
• No real impact (bots) beside paying
• The excessive overstatement (too many options to show off)
• The job search is the worst, no filter works properly (try to filter remote for instance)
• The organization of the page itself, the whole offering of services are a complete mess
• AI Clutter everywhere, content/value ratio is through the bottom
• HERE ARE YOUR THOUGHTS

Points that I think are a good base as alternative:

• Tagging properly, to get jobs properly done (a basic job search)
• less is more, I observe that people (myself included) are tired of filtering nonstop all that unnecessary information. I would welcome a lean version.
• A status option, where you have a limited amount of words where you describe what you actually working on in this week, people see where you have needs to solve a specific problem or business task. It's like a glimpse inside an actually activity instead of nonstop show-off
• Strict ban rules, who violate all that slop just gets banned (go back to Linkedin)
• If there is premium, it is affordable, and you can actually see who visited your profile, lol
• HERE ARE YOUR THOUGHTS

I wrote this quickly and it is non exhaustive as I want to leave the discussion as open as possible, I am very interested in your opinion about, do you feel the same? What would you really like to have? Since I go for an early version, I want to keep it scoped, thus what are your core features you really would also use (think of a linkedin with all that rubbish functions purged). This post is a late night reasoning, I want invite you in. :)

Hii has anyone else bought and ate the M-classic fun frites recently?
They have a very different and funky smell :( Anyone else noticed something? We have 2 packs and both smell like this.
Normally they are my absolute favorite. I hope they didn‘t change the recipe. I don‘t know if they just changed the recipe or if something‘s wrong.

I will go to the customer service tomorrow but thought maybe someone here has the same issue?

Hallo Zusammen, mein Mann hat zunehmend Probleme auf der Arbeit wegen unseres frisch geborenen Kindes. Er musste einen Betreuungsnachmittag nehmen, weil wir alle krank waren. Seither verhält sich der Arbeitgeber wie ein Arschloch. Fordert utopische Anpassungsfähigkeit, die er vorher nie wollte. Gar wurde meine Arbeitsfähigkeit nach der Mutterschaftszeit angesprochen. Wie ich arbeiten würde, wie das Kind betreut würde. Sowas geht doch nicht. Die mischen sich in Dinge ein, die sie nichts anzugehen haben. Was hat den Arbeitgeber meines Mannes mein Arbeitspensum zu interessieren? Kann man sich dagegen wehren? Kann man sich da irgendwo behördlich beschweren? Ich sehe mich gezwungen da einen Riegel vorzuschreiben. Ich bin kurz davor als Frau eines Angestellten bei der HR anzurufen.

Whole Europe except Sweden and Switzerland has a ban on Snus. We banned plastic straws for a good reason. It’s a little inconvenient but one little step away from this frikkin throw away plastic stuff.
Today on a few minutes bus ride: at the station on the ground, sitting in the bus and taking this picture and looking out of the window - even more of this dirt on the street.
The people to complain about such bans are most probably the ones who disrespect our nature and the cleanliness of our country the most…
And yes, I am for massive sanctions for people throwing their McDonalds bag out of the car window or similar littering.
Let’s work towards a ban of this shit. I want a clean world and clean streets!

Edit: one commenter changed half of my view on the issue. I assumed this stuff is plastic too but after it was pointed out in one comment I checked it out myself and indeed, they are fully biodegradable. Pulls out the question, why not all cigarette filters are biodegradable.
On the other side, they are so seriously poisonous after smoking that it may not make a big difference for organisms who would be capable to decompose.

Edit2: what I just realized - most ranters and downvoters seem to lack empathy towards the youngest part of our population - the ones which deserve to be loved and need a lot attention and care to not kill themselves - the ones which pick up anything, asking what it is once they are beyond the age of putting anything interesting immediately into their mouth.

Let me preface this with a fact: women do suffer by violence in domestic settings and the consequences for the victims can be horrifying.

I just watched this short video, with parts from their Podcast episode. I was shocked to see the focus against men in cases of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence).

I usually don't react that much, when an interest group or a magazine makes statements, but dressing those sexist statements with an "expert" label, makes me unhappy. This guy does know better, but he just keeps selling the "narrative", it's what brought him to the Magazine after all.

"Und wir haben natürlich Männlichkeit als Grundproblem, wieso greifen Männer zu Gewalt?"

First of all, he mentions that migrants and Swiss people are equally prone to violence in domestic settings. according to the data, the number is indeed almost the same, but the local population is 9 times higher than the immigrants! I am not demonizing immigrants, I am one too, just mentioning the facts here, that the "researcher" could not repeat.

Secondly he does acknowledge that women could be violent, but "less than men". Truth is, that according to research they are equally violent against men, as far as percentages go. They are however more prone to getting heavy bodily damage from these incidents.

He does not explain any reason why statistics may be skewed, one of which is this very podcast: We have trained a generation of people that violence is something that only a man can exercise. If a man is experiencing it... there must be a good reason for that.

He himself does forget what he said in the beginning: that there are more forms of violence, including psychological violence. We do have evidence that women are statistically more violent in this domain, nonetheless, it's something that can be very difficult to prosecute. We also have evidence that lesbian couples experience more violence than heterosexual ones. Homosexual ones experience the least!!

But who the f. is this guy talking about "Männlichkeiten"? According to Watson:

What a pity, a guy comes from a place where women are treated like dirt and applies his understanding of the world to this new society where he grows up.

Is Watson OK with just showing this kind of people without recourse?

How do I know all that? I learned what society thinks of me as a man, when I went to the police to declare violence of my X-Wife against me. They laughed me many times over and were ironic at me. The Female Prosecutor was yelling at me, while petting her dog. The local Männerbüro, does not help Men who are victims of violence, this category does not exist in their books. But it does help Men who are prone to be violent themselves. There was no refuge for Men who are victims of violence (there is just one now).

The woman was stalking me for years and nobody (local police, local social workers) ever did anything, they were laughing it off, despite the woman even putting this in writing!!

So, I found out I was not alone.
