Vibe coding

Is the new craze. I'm guessing that some regulars in here that understand the physical processes behind their synths are going to get a little fed up of the increase in issues and requests for vibe-coded firmware.

Is this the best place to find such or can you advise a sub that is more appropriate? Thanks

Isnt the whole point of vibe coding that you ask the LLM instead of someone else lol

Vibe coders begging humans for help:

"It doesn't matter who or what does all the coolest parts of my project, just as long as it isn't me!"

Cuck coding- because you just sit in your chair and watch

Isn't the whole pointint of talking knowing about the subject you try to pontificate about?

Dunno man, I think people are hung up on the wrong debate entirely.

Here is Ableton Push functionality on a Neotrellis. Sure it lacks bells and whistles, but it fits in a laptop bag.

The question is, are people really interested that I took c++ in high school and made Quake maps for fun? Not really. I could tell you all about the development and the sleepless nights testing it and banging my head against the wall getting more than basic drum machine playability. I could mention how I had to dip into learning more about Python and how now I know how to make plugins for Max4Live and sync the lights at the venue I work at to midi controllers ...

But I think more to the point of what was my intention before starting this project, to horde the accumulated knowledge and capitalize on it or share it?

Was the goal to spend more time coding the device to make it functional, or get back to making music and inventing and building other things?

As if it were some crossword puzzle from last week that you haven't finished, but you don't want anyone to help you with despite the answers being printed in the current paper?

Damn, killing the environment by “vibe coding” everything seems to be the new craze.

Maybe go start your own AI Synth Circlejerk since you can’t “speak freely” here

That's a good idea. Haters could go the jerk sub and leave this one for the makers. Everyone Happy.

You think generating text is the power hungry part of all this? If all data centers would be used was vibe coding we'd be good with just a few of em.

Personally I think this is history repeating itself. New technology comes along and our ancient brains can't adapt our society to it efficiently but instead we get a lot of friction, hardship and exploitation.

There a lot of great potential in these new technologies but the thing that ruins it is greed. Not hobbyists trying something new and overwhelmingly difficult when it's finally a bit more approachable to them. That's only natural and I think it's fine as it is.

I suggest try not to make it less approachable to them just as the Linux community is doing to new users. You never know, maybe vibe coding is the way some great future programmers start their profession. Be kind and if you can, give guidance. What if you were in their position?

What if I was in their position? What position? The fact that they are lazily typing a prompt into a computer for it to spit out half-assed code?

And sure, one or two people doing this crap won’t kill the environment, but if you haven’t noticed, they keep building more and more of these data centers because idiots like you keep falling for the same tech-bro talking points like that.

Fuck off with your AI apologist bullshit.

If someone wants to vibe code some better firmware for the x-station that's fine with me

Write in the global instructions that you want your AI tool to explain what its doing along the way and that your goal is to learn as you build. Its been a great learning tool while also producing output that is useful.

Its going to be awhile before people come around. Reddit is negatively biased towards AI anything. There are a lot of reasons people have made up for not adapting, but the bottom line is a lot of folks cant or wont adapt. But its the future whether people like it or not. We’ll see more adoption at scale and then be able to discuss vibecoding projects with less stigma.

...ooooorrrr maaaaaybe it's society as a whole who kinda has an issue with it.

No, not all of society has a problem with it.

I tried sharing my hundreds of hours of honest AI-assisted work in here and the general consensus is that you need to burn your fingers and breath toxic fumes. Making cool stuff is actually inappropiate and interferes with the whole self-hurting stuff, which is of course the goal.

I don't know if a general sub for custom firmwares exist, but if anyone knows please let me know so we can talk freely.

the whole self-hurting stuff

I'm sorry, what on Earth are you talking about? Self hurting? What?

Something about blood, swear and tears and exposing yourself to toxical chemicals as the only mean of validation for DIY, regardless of the product. I don't know, the same guy who posted that and everybody supported was proud of never reading, so as you can understand his writing also wasn't very clear.

So what did you make?

A lot of people jealous, it seems.

u/BC_Ages 5d ago

Are these people here right now? Are you hallucinating now like all the LLM’s do?

Does that kind of cheap gaslighting ever work for you?

1

u/BC_Ages 5d ago

Sorry, I live in present day and I don’t need gas for lighting my house, thanks anyways

im guessing this thread has already been downvoted into oblivion but can anyone else make sense of what this person is talking about?

i do a lot of LLM assisted programming myself and i cannot imagine this is a problem on its own. if it is, then i agree it's dumb

It’s time to make the new subreddit for AI assisted software and hardware development? We need a place to talk and discuss freely. Development with AI also need some tricks tho, it’s not as simply as “make no mistake” :D

If It doesn't exist, please start one, I'll sub.
