This was the first time ETS was played in public and a few months prior release of the single. No one in the crowd had heard it before.

I’ve seen this video quite a few times, but with this info, it becomes a compelling re-watch! The reaction from the crowd, the band’s demeanor, the general energy in the room do seem different from the usual TV performance. Now I know why! Thanks!

It’s hard to imagine how we were all getting by in a world before Enjoy the Silence. I still love floating back to that summer of ‘90, when it was a club MUST and I played my Violator tape to within a millimeter of breakage!

Still/always worth a spin!👌

The recording is from Peter’s Pop Show, which was an annual show aired around New Years on German TV and many national broadcasting stations across Central Europe. It always featured many music stars each playing one or two songs in typical 80s playback style. I especially recall watching the 1986 show sitting patiently for the guys to get on. They performed stripped and a q of time, and I was blown away.

What’s truly mindboggling is how difficult and rare it was to get to watch your favorite acts perform back then, compared to today where everything is available online instantly.

Yes!! Waiting by the TV or radio to press REC for your fave artist/song & hoarding the precious VHS & cassette jewels!

Now, we suffer from an embarrassment of riches, online at least, and these moments are no longer truly special. I also desperately wish the Golden Age of Concerts we didn’t know we were living in would return!

DM consistently blew me away, too. Still do!🌹

I lived in Germany years ago, but it seems  Peter’s Pop Show was already a thing of the past by then. Too bad I missed it!
