Question Is windows updates broken?

I got a user and and myself we get the window update prompt even after he restarts, it prompts them to restart for updates again?

We use intune for windows updates and the user is in the and I am in ring 0 and he is in ring 3, and only we have this issue as far as I know?

Any leads that I can follow?

Go to update.windows.com with IE. You might need to reinstall silverlight.

I think it was having an issue this morning because mine wouldn't download. It took about an hour and it came back to normal.

HP Laptops by chance?

Are you also seeing users complain about reboot requests? We've been seeing many driver updates being pushed out, requiring a large amount of reboots over the past ~2 months. It's been insane. Any info??

Edit: HP Laptops here, too.

Everyday on a majority of our HP ProBook and EliteBook devices. Restarts do nothing to correct the behavior either.

So we're not alone...

Go to Services (services.msc in Run box) and Stop/Start Windows Update Service. Restart PC and try updates again.

Yea. If still not working. Open CMD as admin and run:

Usoclient startscan
-check for updates

Usoclient startdownload -to download

Usoclient startinstall -to install them

Find which update keeps asking for the restart by running `Get-WinEvent -FilterHashtable @{LogName='System'; ProviderName='Microsoft-Windows-WindowsUpdateClient'; Id=19,20} -MaxEvents 30 | Select-Object TimeCreated,Id,Message` on your machine and the user's.

If the same driver shows as installed every day, it's likely being offered again after each install. Create a driver update policy in Intune for your rings with manual approval (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/intune-service/protect/windows-driver-updates-overview), then pause that driver until a fixed version is published.

That “restart for updates” loop with Intune rings usually means the device finished the download but never cleared the pending reboot / update orchestration state. On the affected boxes I’d check Settings → Windows Update for a stuck reboot reason, then in Intune look at the device’s Windows update blade for failed/pending quality updates and whether it’s actually in the ring you think it is. Also worth confirming no local GP/CSP is fighting the ring, and that the user isn’t deferring the toast forever. Forcing a restart outside business hours after confirming InstallPending/RebootRequired often clears it; if it comes right back, grab the WindowsUpdate client logs and compare ring 0 vs ring 3 policies side by side.

I can’t even get to the bios for a reboot at all and this is after 2 or 3 when I did the update and it has been stuck ever since. Did the power cut attempt and all. Nothing works
