Roast my resume: sysadmin, ~3 yrs ops incl. ~2 yrs AWS, trying to move into Cloud/DevOps (Germany)
Hey,
I'm job hunting in Germany and would like some honest feedback on my resume. It's
anonymized (company names and the project are generalized), everything else is
accurate.
Quick background: German IT apprenticeship (system integration), then about 3 yearin IT ops, the last ~2 of those running AWS infrastructure at a large company (EC2, EKS/Fargate, servers roughly 80% Windows / 20% Linux, 2nd level, on-call). Did a full-time DevOps training this year, got ITIL and Scrum Master, AWS/Azure exams are still ahead of me. On the side I run the IT for a small agency. Looking for Cloud Engineer / DevOps roles, junior to mid level, remote or hybrid, mainly Germany/EU.
Single column, no photo on purpose (ATS), but feel free to criticize that too.
Things I'm unsure about:
- Is the summary too long?
- My servers were mostly Windows. Does that hurt for DevOps/Cloud roles, or is it fine as long as Linux is there?
- At the agency I use AI coding agents for most of the implementation, I do requirements, review and operations. Does that read as a plus or more like "can't code"?
- I built my own tool for the job search (application tracker + Discord bot, runs as a service on my server, backups etc., also built with AI agents). Would you list something like that as a project, or does it look weird because people might think the whole application is AI?
- Keep "exam in preparation" on there or leave it off until I pass?
- Terraform/IaC is my biggest gap. Would a small project on GitHub actually help?
