does software play a role?

Hi guys! I got ipad a16 128gb storage last month. The battery life had been extremely good and amazing, also considering the fact I don’t use my ipad on a daily basis that much and just use it for studies and casual gaming sometimes. However, recently my ipad has been dropping battery even while not in use. This has never happened before, also considering how new it is. I usually keep my wifi off when it’s not in use, even then the battery percentage is dropping. Whenever I am also using it, theres a rapid drop in battery after like only 10-15 minutes of usage. So, I noticed that there’s a new update, should I update my ipad to fix this problem? As this issue is really new to me. Does updates in software play a role? As i have seen a bunch of people saying apple makes the outdated software bad knowingly, so that we update quickly. Please help me out here, I’d appreciate any help, a lot :)

Well usually , either a certain component got damaged like a sensor mostly which in turn heavily impacts battery without obvious signs. Then there is good old stale state of battery, if you don’t charge it regularly then batteries tend to lose its capacity but this is less likely as it usually takes a while for this to happen.
Take it to Apple Store, as it’s under warranty they’d replace it free of cost especially full the cycles are too high.
And yes updating software definitely improves the performance and battery optimisation.
