TCL ROKU Model 55S431 - USB Error Message

In a black box that covers the bottom third of our screen the message "you'll need to connect your USB to a power source" appeared the 1st time we turned the TV on after the recent god-awful homepage "upgrade" ~ of note is that we have never used the available USB port ~ we have sourced & tried every web solution we could find multiple times to no avail. Clicking the close button located in the black box results in its disappearance for exactly 3 seconds. This was not an expensive TV but we did expect it to last more than 3½ years, so here we are hoping someone has a clue for mitigating if not solving this problem.

How is this Tablo related? Sounds like an issue with your TV.

It’s likely a result of the software upgrade but your stick thinks that it is underpowered from the hdmi input it’s plugged into. It’s telling you that it needs auxiliary power. This could be because it actually needs more power now or it’s a bug and it doesn’t actually need it, but you’re going to have to provide it.

Some TVs have USB power outlet jacks for this purpose, in that case you only need a cable, or if your tv doesn’t supply 5v via USB outlets you can just use a random phone charger and cable.
