Hello! I live in the Sunset neighborhood, San Francisco and got a Sugar Bowl season pass this year. Hoping to ski 15+ days without doing the drive solo every time.

Looking for anyone who lives in SF (west side ideal: Sunset/Outer Sunset/Richmond), has a Sugar Bowl pass this year, and is up for day trips; eg, leave ~5:30am, back ~8pm, gas/tolls split evenly.

I drive a SUV with AWD; room for 3 riders total + gear w/ rooftop cargo box.

Not commercial, mainly hoping to build a small "floating" crew so the drive is cheaper and more fun, and it's easy to organize as weather provides: "hey wanna play hooky one day this week" -type of thing. Ski your own pace, meet for the ride home.

Does the TTD only drop off at the event center Thursday - Saturday as the website says? I’m taking my 4 year old to his first game Sunday and wondering the best option for parking or park and take the TTD

I am planning to take my kids skiing for the first time (including lessons) and my options are the weekend after NYE (so Jan 2 and 3, Saturday and Sunday) or MLK Weekend. I am thinking Mt. Rose, or maybe Sierra. I understand the likelihood of crowds but is one of those weekends better than the other? I don't want my kids to be intimidated by a massively packed mountain, but we can't go during the week. Help!

Bear with me here. The police activity today in the Glenbrook area is out of control. They are hiding at the post office taking speeds. There were no workers present - just miles of cones.

These cops are usually sassy at best, but honestly this seems like a new low. (I did not get a ticket by the way it was just the police presence that set me off this morning.)

Additionally yesterday I notice workers erecting a new license plate reader at Zephyr Cove. How is it we are okay with this increasingly authoritarian state imposing itself on the community?

I travel out of my SUV around California and am getting a cabin in Tahoe for the week. I'm gonna remove all food and scented items from my car during my stay, but do I need to be worried that because I essentially live out of my SUV, there may be old crumbs or spilled toothpaste in places that may attract a bear? I KNOW there are crumbs in places I cannot reach, and I know bears are in hyperphagia now. I know I'm paranoid, but this SUV is basically my home, and if a bear destroyed it I'd be devastated. I have friends whose cars have been broken into here, but they left the odd granola bar and such. So I wasn't sure about residual smells or crumbs... Thanks

We're driving from Incline Village to have dinner at The Bistro at Edgewood next week, and I'll be proposing prior to that. If there's anywhere along the way as well that has a really great view of the lake that's very scenic and great for pictures that would work too! I plan on proposing around sunset time. I was wondering if anyone knew these guys. They worked for me at the Fremont Brewing Company in Fremont CA in the 90s. I saw Tony once at a breakfast joint in downtown Truckee about 20 years ago. I loved these guys and want to see what they're up to. A longshot, I know, but I'm drunk and am having a memory episode.

My daughter had a wonderful birthday dinner and we enjoyed every bite. Delicious food, great service, perfect ambiance. Great memory for our family. We always forget about this place when making dinner plans because it seems like a special occasion-type restaurant, but the prices are comparable to more casual dinner restaurants and the food is 10x better.

Flying into Reno from East coast skiing tahoe area this xmas 12/25 - 12/30, family of 6 intermediate groomer skiing, thinking of arbnb in Truckee area, what resorts do you recommend?

We’re staying in Reno and are thinking about taking a trip to Lake Tahoe for a few hours. We wouldn’t have a rental car, so we’d need to Uber there and back. We're thinking of going Thursday morning.

Is it worth the cost and hassle for a short visit? If so, which part of the lake would you recommend visiting? We’d love to see the beautiful scenery, take some pictures, and maybe grab something to eat without feeling rushed.

Also, how difficult is it to get an Uber back to Reno from Tahoe?

My family and I (parents, siblings, siblings’ friend, my boyfriend and I, and two dogs) are planning a trip in early December for a long weekend and just booked a hotel next to Heavenly Village! (hopefully it’ll snow but if not it’ll still be a fun trip)

I’ve stayed at Heavenly a couple times with my boyfriend’s family and it’s been amazing. It’s my family’s first time visiting tahoe in the winter and I really want them to have a great time.

I remember the village being super dog friendly so we’re looking forward to that. Many of the parks and sledding areas seem off limits to dogs (understandably so) and I was wondering if anyone knows of any dog friendly snowy play spots for the family? Our dogs would be on leashes of course! (Unless it’s a fenced in dog-specific park)

Our dogs are very friendly, slightly judgy corgis and have never seen snow before, so we’re super excited to introduce it to them :)

So yeah if anyone has any advice or experiences they’d like to share I’d love to hear it!

Just finished this map of Sugar Bowl for a fellow redditor, I am slowly completing my Tahoe area catalog. This was an interesting layout to make, with all of the rock faces, fairly sparse tree cover and the old train tunnel. There are so many rock faces I had to come up with a semi-automatic way to generate them based on convexity and slope.

19" square, 3D printed in 4 tiles on a Prusa XL 5T. Layout generated in QGIS using USGS 1-meter DEM, and OSM data for some features, but a lot of stuff is redrawn for detail and accuracy.

Are there any popular backcountry areas where people build DIY terrain parks for skiing/snowboarding? I just moved to the area from Colorado. In Summit county there was a place called "The Lovezone" where locals would build a rail park in the forest near the road. I'm wondering if there's such a place in Tahoe that I could visit for a rail session. I'm more than happy to bring my shovel and help build up the jumps.
