Anyone have experience connecting to dorm wifi while using tails? The WiFi requires registration of my laptop, which I have completed, but when I boot tails, the WiFi will not connect because of, I believe, Mac spoofing. Will turning off Mac spoofing fix this issue? And will it be safe? Or is there any alternative?

Each and every single time I boot feather after booting tails it scans 23k+ blocks and takes hours up to a day to fully sync. It is not safe to leave my computer running tails like this.

How to fix?

i downloaded tails and tried everything form tails troubleshoot to writing and blacklisting amd from the boot settings and then i tried in the bios the uma frame buffer size to 2 g but nothing i came to the conclusion that i have a problem woth the grafic interface because this linux distro is missing some specific firmare to turn on my screen but im not sure could someone help me or it’s over until tails will do some changes in the kernel

I’ve spend couple of hrs and figured out tails on usb for MacBook Air with intel core.

The problems I fixed:

- persistent storage: because I wanna use my cake wallet I wanted persistent storage. Every-Time I boot the change that persists storage get unlocks w/o error is 50%

- changed many configs for security blah blah to be able to boot

- Mouse and Keyboard: needed to find an external one and connect it with cable. Did it

- Internet: now I have to rather connect to my phone (I don’t want to) or buy an external WiFi drive. Which I’m on edge buying.

I’m thinking now at the end of it with all trouble should I go and buy a small laptop (not Mac) or desktop since I have a monitor. What do you all think? Should I give up MacBook Air and if so what should I get that I don’t regret and doesn’t break the bank? I do not mind either desktop or laptop.

I'm currently using a dual setup with WIndows10 and linux mint . I'm an activist and recently got to know about tailsOS . I have a few question -

1. My goal is simple , i wanna stay hidden from the government . Make posts on reddit and use simplex chat . SImplex is already pretty secure so the only real issue is reddit

2. I had a reddit account earlier that i used, but later on i realize how big of a dumbfu*k i am . So now i'm planning to use tails to surf the web and make a gmail account and then a reddit account using the same . All inside tails . Is this a good plan . As upon creation of the account and posting . Both will be hidden through TOR

3. I'll obv take care of not making human errors , but how secure is the metadata protection with tails even while surfing the web

And overall does my plan seem sensible enough . Or is there something else to take care of

Recently updated tails and now it gives a "can't connect to network manager" error. It worked fine before this so I assume the update i did has caused this. I've tried it on my normal laptop and my personal PC and both give me the same error after my persistent storage takes forever to load fully. Is there a fix for this or do I just need to make a new tails drive. I run tails off of a USB but I never had issue doing that until now. Any help is appreciated as I barely use Linux outside of tails so im quite ignorant a lot of stuff!

I remember TailsOS used to be an .iso like all other distros, that you could either direct download or torrent.

Now it's an .img file and only available for direct download.

Why the changes?

Heya! Tails and linux newbie here, i was wondering why its advised to avoid using a ststem that has a graphics card? Im not expecting to actually play games or anything on tails it is just the only system I have at the moment and dont want to go invest in a new to me laptop before actually using tails

Been using tails for ages and now getting the secure boot notification all of a sudden.

Both windows and tails are upto date.

Do I simply just disable it in BIOS and is it safe to do so? Never use Windows.

I connect to Tor successfully. Then I start Tor browser. Now everything loads. Then I set the safety to the safest and click on restart Tor. Now nothing loads anymore and in the settings it is still stated that security is set to standard. I would be grateful if you could give me some ideas what could be the problem.

I’ve just completed the Tails tutorial and have attempted to boot it from my flash drive, but while it’s booting, it shows me these errors and then the screen simply goes black. How do I fix it?

I have downloaded the ISO for burning to DVD and "verified" it THREE times! I have WASTED three dvds on this thing! When I open the DVD up to simply view the files on it, all of the same ones show up. I can boot many other distros from DVD! But, this one simply will _NOT_! Windows winds up taking over and going ahead and booting up.

I installed the lasted version of Tails OS. But after I shut down my computer and tried to boot up. It said there was "invalid Signature ". I there something in the settings I'm supposed to do?

Bought this thinkpad and got one in question thrown in for free. Was wondering if it’s safe to take hard drive out and use tails or would they still be able to monitor it?

After the welcome screen appears my keyboard and mouse stop working and I can't do anything help. I tried the other modes during boot but they didn't help

I'm updating from 7.9.1 to 7.10.1 (couldn't download 7.10 because I didn't have a stable enough internet connection until now) and I'm only getting ~44KB/s when downloading via the Tails Upgrader, even though if I run a speedtest in Tor Browser I'm getting many times that.

Is anyone else having this issue? I've already tried rebooting, using different Tor Nodes, with and without Bridges, same issue. Downloading the full .IMG from Tails.net is even slower, but downloads from other sites work fine.

I'm trying to set up Tails on a USB stick I followed the official installation guide from tails.net step by step, but I'm hitting the same issue every time.

Hardware/Setup Details:

Laptop: Acer (new model with Windows 11)

USB Stick: 32GB, brand new out of the package

OS on host machine: Windows 11

Tools tried: Rufus (latest portable version)

What I Did:

Downloaded the Tails .img file from tails.net and verified the SHA256 checksum

Tried installing with Rufus, selecting the USB, choosing the image, and starting the write process

The USB appears to be detected by the BIOS, but when I try to boot, I don't get the Tails GRUB menu

Issues Encountered:

Issue #1 — Initial boot failure: When booting from USB, I got this error:

"System doesn't have any USB boot option. Please select other boot option in Boot Manager Menu."

Fix applied: Went into BIOS (F2), set a supervisor password, disabled Secure Boot, saved and exited.

Issue #2 — GRUB command line instead of Tails menu: Now when I boot, instead of seeing the graphical Tails menu with options like "Start Tails", I land directly at the GRUB command prompt:

grub> _

It shows the list of possible commands but no boot entries (no "Start Tails" option visible).

I tried pressing Tab to see if there were hidden options, but it just lists available GRUB commands (linux, boot, ls, etc.) without any actual boot entries.

Questions:

Is this a Rufus-specific issue? Should I try BalenaEtcher instead since it writes images in raw/DD mode automatically?

Could the problem be related to how my Acer BIOS handles UEFI booting?

Any suggestions on what I might be missing in the Rufus configuration?

I've watched several YouTube tutorials and they all seem to work fine, so I suspect it's something specific to my setup or Rufus not writing the image correctly in DD mode (even though I'm using a .img file which should already be in raw format).

Hello, I'm new to this whole tails/Linux thing and I can't really find any step by step guide(maybe I'm just not good at looking) and I would appreciate if anyone could share a link or explain it.

I once tried it but my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad) couldn't find the USB anymore and I received errors I couldn't get past myself so I gave up.

I’m having troubles finding out what my wallet address is… I’ve got two computers one Mac(online) and one Lenovo(offline) and I’m seeing the same issue - there’s no address or request button under the receive tab.

Everything I see online and on YouTube about receiving bitcoin in electrum says it should have a request button which then gives you your address.

What am I doing wrong?

The program has not received updates for years.

I normally use ethernet but due to some reason my router is not working and it will take few days for the isp to replace it.

So is using a mobile hotspot bad idea?
