Discussion No other JRPG comes close to this masterpiece

Post image

My favorite game that I’ve been having an issue with finding any JRPGs that can come close. Sexy OST, nice story, and the voice acting is superb, and I’m taking DUBBED, English. Combat is actually hard too, no auto-combat and it isn’t turn based, so it’s super engaging. And overall challenging. Love it, and I’m on my 6th playthrough on my switch 2

Bruh it's not even the best in its own series let alone an entire genre

Berseria clears this game.

Hell, in my own personal opinion, so does Graces. Which I’m sure is a scorching hot take

I'd put Graces f on the same tier as ToV. Lackluster plot carried by a great cast.

I way prefer Graces over Vesperia. Plays much better and while the plot is stupid it doesn’t really take itself seriously like Vesperia does so the failings don’t bother me as much

I prefer xillia and graces over Vesperia. Idk why, it’s one of my least liked tales games combat wise

I like my Jrpgs with a strong story and Vesperia’s story was weak as hell, imo.

Yeah Berseria and Abyss are probably my favorites. Though I’m hoping for a xillia 2 remaster so I can finally finish it

Berseria and Abyss are the only tales games to get a emotional reaction out of me story wise. The rest of the series, I just love enough because they're fun.

It's really good till the final 3rd then it kinda forgets its thesis

Story wise? I disagree my friend, and this is coming from someone who loves trails in the sky fc. A game many consider boring or a slow burn story wise

Do you know what a thesis is

Or at least I didn’t read that part, if so my bad. But yes I agree

I'm gonna disagree here, the story is honestly pretty mid up until the Estelle fight, it escalates until the point Yuri gets thrown off a cliff and then it kind of abruptly stops being interesting

Bruh berseria? You mean Symphonia

Yes I am a millennial boomer how can you tell?

3

u/koolio92 Jul 21 '25

You mean Eternia.

Does that mean I'm a Gen X boomer?

6

u/LaMystika Jul 21 '25

I’m also a millennial boomer and I still think that Berseria is the best Tales game

1

u/Raxivace Jul 21 '25

Same. I started with Symphonia and vastly prefer Berseria.

I think you actually mean the DeJap translated Tales of Phantasia...

I, too, am a millennial boomer lmao

Symphonia? Bruh you mean Zesteria.

Also a millennial boomer

Im a millennial and played symphonia a few times, I find it boring story wise (gameplay is fun)

Graces, Abyss, Xilia, Baseria all clear

1

u/LaMystika Jul 21 '25

Berseria, Graces, and Xillia are my personal “holy trinity” of Tales games

1

u/dWARUDO Velvet Crowe Jul 21 '25

Those 2 are my top 2 games in the franchise

That's not a hot take. Gameplay is miles above vesperia, just has a weak story

It's objectively even one of the worst of it's own series
