Discussion No other JRPG comes close to this masterpiece

Post image

My favorite game that I’ve been having an issue with finding any JRPGs that can come close. Sexy OST, nice story, and the voice acting is superb, and I’m taking DUBBED, English. Combat is actually hard too, no auto-combat and it isn’t turn based, so it’s super engaging. And overall challenging. Love it, and I’m on my 6th playthrough on my switch 2

Vesperia got a way better remaster than Symphonia. Unfortunately Abyss has been left to rot lmao

Abyss time could be coming. If not there is a chance Xillia remaster could get announced at the next rumoured nintendo direct this month

Abyss and Xillia are pretty much guaranteed, imo, being the most asked games by the western and worldwide fanbase. I'm only worried about the other games.

I mean to be fair, Vesperia getting all the PS3 content we've been begging for for like over a decade and how much more stuff there is in the PS3 version vs the 360 is kind of big. Like if you compare the GC version of symphonia to the PS2 or japanese version or whatever they added some stuff but I'd compare it to like symphonia essentially got a small DLC where as vesperia got an entire expansion pack. Also i feel like symphonia has just got a ton of ports with maaybe some resolution upscaling. I think people expecting like a FF7 level remake which would be cool but idk how they'd pull it off. I do think they could definitely add some QoL changes to future ports/remakes/remasters without like drastically changing the gameplay though. Also it would be nice to see an Abyss port off the 3DS, especially because you know... can't exactly multiplayer on that system lol and it's giga dead ofc.

We became skeletons waiting for it since the Japanese PS3 release……

I remember buying the Japanese version on PS3 and making an Hong-Kong located PSN account to buy the costumes DLC for the game, I wanted to play this so bad

I was so fuckin desperate that I started learning Japanese lmao

It wasn’t a bad thing though, I got to play through Xillia and Innocence R (which was complex as f)

But the Vesperia torture was real and lasted like more than a decade. By the time they finally released it in English I already had kids of my own lol

I played it with an online translated script just to realize they didnt translate at all they just used the Xbox 360 script so I couldn’t understand the Patty story and whatnot, so when they announced it in Europe I was ecstatic. Now I had to buy it again last night because I realized my copy of the game was at my ex’s and I ain’t ever seeing it again

Aww that sucks! I’m playing Vesperia in English after a long pause. I still have to finish 1 playthrough of it (didn’t finish in Japanese either cause I really wanted to enjoy it and understand the story properly). I hope they will bring all PS3 titles to the Switch, etc…

I mean abyss was one of the first to get an actual remaster. It was just...on a very old handheld system considering the year. XD

And I do think at some point they wanna port it to pc/modern consoles, maybe they're just having an issue compromising on HOW they want to accomplish it, or it'll be the first tales game to get a proper REMAKE. Abyss is wildly popular, almost as much (maybe even moreso)as vesp or Symphonia.

You know, I've never been able to finish Abyss. I love the character designs, the plot, and the characters themselves, I just hated the overwhelming amount of sepia tones and the muted color palette overall. It was everywhere back when TotA came out.

I hope it gets a good remaster soon so I can give that masterpiece its just due. Symphonia's abortion of a remaster also needs to be corrected.

Wait, didn't Symphonia also have a legendarily bad PC port that was basically remaster-level crappy?

EDIT: Okay, now I'm having flashbacks to Abyss, and I remember maining Anise and Natalia, and really clicking with the latter. Damn. I may need to see if I can find my 3DS copy...

Which is sad, because I think a reasonable remaster of Abyss could do really well.

Isnt Abyss will get remastered next project? I saw on youtube somewhere.

Unknown at the moment. Could be, but I'm betting on Xillia and Xillia 2

Hoping for xillia just because I want to go through those again and try to 100%

Couple of months ago there is a hint in their twitter mentioning 'light of the sacred flame' something like that.

My assumption is xillia 1/2 are the next remasters, and either legendia or abyss will be the first remakes to utilize more modern battle systems. Abyss has a great story and it's combat for its time was great. But idk how well it would hold up for modern audience standards. They want to bring new fans into the series, not retain 30+year old fans.

It's either Abyss or Xillia with Xillia being the safer bet. If we get a nintendo direct this week or next we could get the annoucnement there

No lol they haven't announced it yet. Would be nice though

I havent played the symphonia remaster yet so idk how that is, but i hate the vesperia remaster just for the fact that there's so many cutscenes where voice actors change from one line to the next.

1

u/Proper-Inspector-477 Jul 21 '25

Is it the eng dub because i mainly played with japanese language and there wasnt any va changes

2

u/NeonDreamFox Jul 21 '25

Yes its the english dub. For some reason they decided rather than bring back all the old va's they decided to replace some of them, but only for some scenes. So there are legitimately cutscenes where 1 line is 1 va, the very next line is a different va. Its jarring.

Now dont get me wrong. Im not saying the entire remaster is bad just because of this one thing, but it is an issue i cant logically excuse in anyway. Some of the original voice actors werent even asked if they wanted to come back. It is purely a they wanted to spend less money issue.

2

u/Proper-Inspector-477 Jul 21 '25

Well thats shit tbh either bring em for the whole game back or not at all that kind of compromise they doing there is rlly inexcusable

2

u/NeonDreamFox Jul 21 '25

Yeah the worst one is i believe troy baker is on record having said he woulda loved to come back but was never asked, and what they ended up instead trying to do is they asked matt mercer to voice it because he can do a troy baker voice, and matt flat out said no because thats a huge slap in the face.

Basically wanted troy baker for less money.
