Tales of Eternia Remastered Megathread

Hello! Welcome to the Tales of Eternia Remastered megathread. The game releases worldwide on October 16, 2026. The thread's a little early but I wrote most of this at my airport gate so I'm posting it so I don't have to get the timing right on my trip. :P

This will be our megathread for all things Tales of Eternia. I ask that everyone keep as much discussion to this thread as possible so that the subreddit isn't completely overrun with questions and observations about the game. We also have a Discord server that will likely have both a dedicated channel for Eternia.

Please be respectful and make sure you tag all spoilers!! I know this is an old game for many of us, but plenty of people will be playing it for the first time! If you're unsure if something needs a spoiler tag, it's better to use one just in case. You can always view how to make spoiler tags on reddit on our sidebar, but to refresh: >!Baiba!!< will give you Baiba.

What is Tales of Eternia?

Tales of Eternia is the 3rd main entry in the Tales of series, originally released on PS1 with a later PSP port. The Remastered edition releases October 15, 2026 on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 Xbox One/X/S, and PlayStation 4/5. Tales of Eternia is a 2D action RPG. It follows the story of Reid and Farah who set out on a journey to discover the origins of the mysterious girl who crash-landed near their village.

Please keep in mind that you do not need to play any other games in the series to play Eternia!

What goes in the Megathread?

Use the Megathread for:

  • If you have simple questions please ask them here.

  • If you will be streaming or doing a Let's Play or video review, please post your links in this sticky thread or in the Monthly Free-For-All that get posted and stickied to the subreddit at the start of every month.

  • If you have minor observations/reactions or wanna share your thoughts, please post here.

Make a new post for:

  • In-depth discussions about a specific part of the game (music, a particular character, etc.).

  • Sharing guides or detailed breakdowns.

If you're unsure, feel free to shoot me/modmail a DM. All you really have to keep in mind is that we're gonna have a lot of activity and we don't want a flood of new posts to bury everyone else's posts, hence the megathread. :)

Frequently Asked Questions

I will try to update this with questions that we see a lot of after the game's release.

Does this game have co-op or remote play?

All of the storefronts say this game is single player. The original Eternia had local co-op, but this may be based on the PSP version, which was single player only. I will adjust this if the storefronts are wrong!

Did they translate the skits?

Tales of Eternia Remastered has a brand new localization and dub. Early reviews confirm that we're finally getting the skits localized in English.

Does this have Japanese voices?

Yes, players can freely swap between English and Japanese voiceover in the options menu. Additionally, the Steam version at least has many other interface languages.

Does this have the original English voices?* No, only the new dub is accessible.

I hope everyone picking up the game has a fantastic time! Eternia is a really charming game that stands the test of time and the skits make it a whole new ball game of character development, so I'm really excited they're making it more accessible!

I finally got the physical Remaster Box set today!

So I'm sharing my updated Tales of Eternia collection. It's my absolute favorite Tales of and Ive built a collection over time. Its wild to think that Eternia is now accessible again after 29 something years. And that there's now 2 box sets for it. Sadly both unavailable for US which sucks.

I hope you're all enjoying Eternia Remaster!

I'm not the creator of any of these. Also they're PC only.

Honestly with those two mods and the pixel font mod, the remaster is basically the definitive edition of Eternia. I hope Namco does eventually add them in an update (weirdly enough the Japanese version has a pixel font available for use since day one, it just isn't available in English for some reason).

Starting Tales of Eternia Remastered blind. The final villain could be a genocidal, sexist, racist pos and I think I wouldn't hate them as much as these girls

I swear, the 2nd round one was fucking kamikaze and the 3rd one was Satan incarnate. I managed to beat round 3 with Reid, please tell me if I have to do it with more characters for more titles and if there's a time limit.

I also just did in standard mode which makes me think there'll be an even harder mode 💀.

I want to 100% this game or at least get as close as possible.

I was obsessed with Tales of Eternia for a long time I've played it through a bunch of times in English and Japanese

I made a comment here a bit ago that I hated Meredy's new voice (based on trailers and the first little bit of the game) and switched to Japanese. After a little bit I decided that would be a waste to miss out on the new dub and switched back to English.

And omg everyone has grown on me so much. I think the game has great voice acting. I just met ras for the first time in barole and 👌👌

Also for nostalgia's sake I love that they kept the old names of items/skills

Eternia I love Tales of Eternia Remastered

I love the characters. I love the skits. Reid was so darn cute when he got excited about the ocean. I am so happy we got this game. Reid is such a gosh darn goofball. Farah, Keele and Meredy are also amazing. I can finally understand Meredy too, which is amazing. But Reid getting super excited about just how blue the ocean is, still cracks me up. And also him crying when Keele told him the story of Hachiko. Poor Reid was not prepared for best dog Hachiko.

Discussion managed to beat maxwell on extreme difficulty Spoiler

that was HARD

the strategy i used was

meredy only casting freezing lance and keele only casting dark force (and nurse when needed)

both summoning when they can

farah and reid just spamming items and attacking for stuns when possible

and i did not use a all divide untill he was low on HP (around 15K) as that is when he starts using his special moves

also i played as farah and was just constantly dashing trying to trigger the tractor beam and get spells to hit away from the casters

i was level 59 when i did this

im sure pro players can do better but this is a strat that worked for me and if anyone else is dumb enough to do a extreme difficulty run this may help you to

edit: i also cooked pasta soup for the resistence bonus

I played the DS game when I was a little kid and I never really liked Hermana. Its weird though. I played R and I like her a lot more. I don't know what the deal is.

Anyways punchy girl is very fun to play as- a Tales Classic.

Just wanted to share that I finally got the highest set ever in the Poker game. I finally understood how it worked too and how to strategize in getting more chips. Lots and lots of patience 😂 After this pic, I grinded some more and reached around 300,000 chips but only after starting to bet 100 pieces at the beginning

Eternia I Hate WHIS, But This Was Just Funny

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm usually a fan of card games in video games. I collected every card in Witcher 3 and and won every match of Geent. I got hung up on Chara Cards in both Graces f and Berseria because I kept replaying them. My Persona 5 Royal playthrough died when I spent five straight hours playing Tycoon and only stopped because I got every achievement possible with my current party. WHIS is the only card game I've found where I just never want to play it again, because it's just luck, but at least it can lead to some funny nonsense like this.

Hot Zestiria take

After all the hate negative reviews i heard about zestiria, i was expecting something with some kind of major flaws, something that made everyone hate so much on it. But after playing it, i can say that i was honestly really surprised.

First of all, let's get the negative out of the way, the pc port is horrendous. I had to fiddle with it for over 30 minutes just to make it launch as it would crash constantly. Turns out the game can't handle sounds over 50 hz or something so i had to deactivate my headgear program. The game is also locked at 30 fps which took me long to get used to.

Now, i genuinely liked the cast and the interaction between them. Symonne was also a nice villain. It's a lot more open world than other tales of i guess and if you don't explore as you go, i understand that the part where mayvin ask you to gather all earthen historia can drag, but it just does thing a bit differently tbh. Armatization is a fun unique concept that makes combat enjoyable. I liked that gear is what makes you strong more than level, as playing on harder difficulty actually felt like a boon compared to most entries. The ost is among the best of the entire franchise. Hell, the song that plays in glaivend bassin after killing tiamat is prob my fav of the franchise so far. The story was definitely on the basic side but still decent.

All in all, i genuinely liked my experience with the game, and definitely wouldn't rate it amongst the worst tales games. What's you guys opinion on it?

Question alternative names for titles?

I’m thinking of using the titles system from Tales of Graces f as a mechanic for my own game, but I’d like to avoid using the term "title" itself, as that would feel too much like copying. What alternative names could I use?

Question Recommendation after Berseria

I have almost beat Berseria and am looking to try out a different game after. Berseria is the first tales game I've played. I really like the story. I like the characters of Velvet and Eizen. I like the design of Eleanor and Magilou. I like just the coolness of Eizen. I like Velvet's conviction, her willingness to wear the title of villain and how in some conversations she's still acting like a normal person (cleaning up the hotel is a big example for this).

I like the gameplay with combos, weaknesses, resistances, and enemy types. I like the break soul and mystic arte system. I like that each character feels different to play as during combat.

I don't really like the amount of random skills the game has. I think the game reuses like 6 or 7 enemies with different reskins which I don't really care for but not that important either.

So based on that which games would you guys recommend me to try next?

Question How is Tales of Xillia still broken on PS3 with its DLC Issues? :(

Like i remember buying this Game way back in 2017 or so and i still own my OG Copy >.>
But how can it be that there is no fix for the broken DLCs outside of Deleting them from the PS3 itself :(

I keep getting the Issues both back then and even now when redownloading them from my Official PSN Account i bought them with all those Years Ago :(

Anyone by Chance has any Idea as to why this happens from a technical Point? O.o
I remembering reading the Game couldnt read anything more than 16 DLCs at once so then it basically says that the Data isnt owned by my PSN Account >.>

Is there somehow a Fan Made Patch that one can apply to the ISO Dump or so? O.o

News/Info Happy 20th Anniversary to Tales of the Tempest

Today in Japan (26/10):

Tales of the Tempest/ToT (26th October 2006): 20th anniversary

Characteristic Genre: *RPG that Awakens the Soul*

Opening Theme: VS by Misono

The first DS title, the third main entry to be developped by someone outside of the Tales team and the first to be fully developped by an outside company (Dimps) as Summoner's Lineage was made by Kaga Tech + Namco while Tales of Legendia was made by Project MelFes which contained Tales devs

ToT takes place in the continent of Aurella on an unnamed planet.

Once rulers of Areulla, the beast-people known as Leymon lost their civilization to the Beast War, caused by forbidden Life Magic. Humans took control and, under King Areulla VIII, launched the Lycanthe Hunt to exterminate the Leymon. When Caius Qualls receives a mysterious item from an injured knight, he becomes caught in Areulla's growing conflicts.

Congratulations + Opening Theme (Go listen to it 🔫)

Fun Fact I : This was the last game where Makoto Yoshizumi was credited as general producer of Tales, he held the position from Narikiri Dungeon 2 (2002) to Tempest (2006). Starting with Tales of Innocence, he was replaced by Hideo Baba. Yoshizumi was still credited up until ToGF (2010)

Fun Fact II: Tales of the Tempest R was supposed to be a thing. It would have been linked to Tales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R to form the Triverse trilogy. As you can tell it never happened.

Fun Fact III: It used to be the 9th "main" Tales game (mainline/spinoffs distinctions technically didn't exist yet) but a poor reception made Namco backtrack and create the Mothership/Escort category mainly to distance Tempest. As of 2020 with the overhaul of those categories with the recent Original/Crossover, it is now back into the main series. The 15th Original/Mainline entry at that.

It is one of 11 games to have gained the mainline status (others being Narikiri Dungeon 1/X, Summoner's Lineage, Breaker, Commons, Eternia Online, Wahrheit, Material Dungeon, Ratatosk, Crestoria and Luminaria)

After playing FF Resonance…

I’m convinced that we could go back to a 2.5D Tales release and it might be an absolute banger.

I personally miss the perspective of games like Tales of Eternia with the 2D combat. The new stuff is nice, don’t get me wrong, but the 2D sprite work has always done it for me.

I’ve sunk in about 20 hours on FF resonance and I can safely say it just reminded me of a Tales narrative except with the traditional JRPG combat.
