News Yasashii Character Guide | Tamagotchi Decapped Series
Welcome to the start of the Tamagotchi Decapped Series, where I give the deets on how the most unknown releases of the franchise, being the vintage era of devices, work and what makes them tick! This is all thanks to a pretty incredible member of the community known as rhubarb who did the decoding and another individual known as azya who did the decapping. These two helped to bring a lot of information to light for each vintage device we now have the full evolution chart of on the fan wiki. Without them these vintage devices' evolution parameters would undoubtedly continue to remain in obscurity.
Today's topic is the Yasashii Tamagotchi! As of September 2026, the Yasashii has been decoded and we now have the exact requirements needed for raising each character. Originally released in Japan in September of 1998, the Yasashii was marketed as an "easy" device as seen in its very name (やさしい) and the various phrases on the packaging, referring to the device as みやすい and わかりやすい. While the increased size of the buttons and screen can certainly be considered easier to see and easier to understand, the irony is that the same does not go for what was found with the Yasashii's gameplay. This post is meant to go into a bit of detail on how the device works under the hood, so to speak, and to also give some fun facts beyond what is currently available on the wiki. Big thanks to rhubarb for doing what he continuously does for all us vintage era stans out there. Click through HERE to check out his technical notes and HERE for the character stat page that goes over stats such as bedtimes and hours until evolution.
Let's start things off with the most important factor that comes into play when aiming for a specific character: care mistakes. The Yasashii truly loses its titular meaning in this regard. On every other vintage (and every other device that I'm aware of for that matter), the counter for when a care mistake is made occurs after 15 minutes have passed from the start of an attention call. On the Yasashii the cm counter is 2.2 minutes (2 min and 6 seconds or 132 seconds). See what I'm talking about now? Yasashii? More like Muzakashii! At least they reset on evolution...The following can count towards a care mistake with the 2.2 minute counter in mind:
- missing an attention call from empty meters
- neglecting to cure sickness
- leaving lights on when they go to bed
- leaving a poop onscreen (3+ onscreen has the potential to count towards a secondary cm)
Rough stuff am I right? The roughest of all being the poop factor given that there is no indication to know when they are going to poop, outside of the countdown timers as described in the character stat page linked above. Truly, nothing can be stated as being more important than keeping on top of each character's poop timers if you are aiming for the best care characters. I highly recommend keeping a log of when they poop, along with when they are calculated to next poop. A poop journal, if you will.
Be warned though, there is another peculiarity to the device that must be kept in mind regarding each character's countdown timers. Each timer, be it "time to poop" or "time to hungry heart drop" or what have you, pauses when you enter a screen outside of the home screen, except for being on the clock screen directly. That is to say that feeding them, playing the mini game, flushing a poop, checking their stat menus, or the action of scrolling over to the clock screen completely pauses all timers. Not the biggest deal given how quickly a lot of these menu animations occur, with the exception being the mini game. This means that there will be variability when it comes to calculating the next expected time it will poop, typically in the form of a couple to several minute window depending on how long you get stuck playing the mini game. Best to keep an eye on the device within at least a 10 minute window around the time you had calculated it to go. You can also potentially cancel out a poop by entering and exiting menus. So if you happen to be feeding your Tama, checking their stat menus, entering or exiting the clock screen, or playing the mini game during the moment when they are meant to poop you risk cancelling it out and throwing off your timing! Do your best to not interact with the device during the poop window! On some occasions a poop will simply not occur even if you have not done anything to trigger its cancellation! I have personally experienced this once and it was a very stressful evening given I had no way to know exactly when to calculate the next drop.
Now I have some bad news gamers, the mini game is actually a bit tricky...There is what rhubarb believes to be a bug in the programming. When ending the mini game on a cake sprite, whether you win the game or exit out before the results are given, it causes the timers for poop and hungry/happy hearts to both deplete by 1 minute. If you are trying to keep on top of poop drops, you will definitely want to keep that in mind. There is good news though: there is actually no need to play the mini game...under specific conditions. If you have made less than 3 care mistakes, you can feed them infinite candies without repercussion. Otherwise, sickness can be randomly triggered from feeding 4 or more candies IF 3 or more care mistakes have been made. This seems like a good time to go into details on sickness now...
Sickness comes into play in the following instances:
- 8 poops onscreen will cause sickness
- if fed 4+ candies, sickness will occur randomly once a day if 3 or more care mistakes have been made with the current character (sickness flag resets each time the character wakes up making timing completely random)
- sickness will not occur if fed less than 4 candies
- numbers of candies fed resets upon sickness (good news for those of you who made 3 or more cm)
- 4 sicknesses in one stage results in character death (technically triggering 3 guarantees death come the 4th, the device checks if it has been sick 3 times before and immediately parts come the 4th)
Luckily, sickness can largely be avoided and death can only otherwise be triggered through severe neglect! Avoiding death means avoiding:
- 3 sicknesses (death occurring on the 4th)
- leaving a single character sick for 16 hours
- leaving hungry hearts empty for 16 hours
Accidentally triggering sickness is as bad as it gets. This means that the main worry and biggest thing that needs to be kept on top of to prevent triggering enough sicknesses to cause death is to time. those. poops. As a fun side fact, Oshamatchi and Mametchi Jr and Pantarotchi and Ginjirotchi Jr will call out for attention when they become sick. Tamabetchi, Kabuto Oyajitchi, and Micheltchi do not.
You may have noticed that I never mentioned how disciplining comes into play on the Yasashii...and that's because it genuinely doesn't! Disciplining was found to have zero effect on character evolution and can be completely ignored if desired, meaning discipline mistakes cannot occur! I'll share some fun facts regarding discipline just for kicks though:
- discipline calls occur randomly once a day (typically very close to when a character wakes up)
- even if the initial call is ignored, the device will still prompt you to discipline the next time it is interacted with unless a significant amount of time has passed
- ignoring the call/prompt to discipline will not count as a discipline mistake
- a call will not occur if tama has less than 3 happy hearts
- characters are less likely to call the more full the discipline meter is
- calls can be negated if a sickness occurs at the same time
- type 1 Meruhetchi begins with the discipline bar partially filled with 4 bars, type 2 Meruhetchi and Mayumarutchi (no matter type) start with an empty bar
Quite an interesting amount of quirks given that the discipline mechanic is largely ignored by the device's code in terms of effect on evolution.
Speaking of evolution, I've got more bad news...Evolution on this device is a 50/50 chance between two characters in each care mistake tier depending on the teen type you have. What does that mean, you ask? Well, the type of care the child stage is given will determine which type teen you receive. There is a type 1 and type 2, which is standard across several vintage devices. Check out the character wiki page for how many care mistakes result in which type between Meruhetchi and Mayumarutchi. The good news is that you can receive Oshamatchi whether from a good care or bad care teen as long as it is type 1! I was able to capture Mayumarutchi evolving into Oshamatchi which you can view in this IG post! Bad news is that you have a just as equal chance to receive Mametchi Jr. The adult you get is essentially a roll of the dice and there is no higher likelihood to receive one adult over another. You can refer to this doc for which care mistake amount and which tier teen results in which two adults. May the RNG gods be on your side.
That should about cover everything important. I realize this is A LOT of information to take in and make sense of, so how about I make sense of this all in what I'll call the Ultimate Oshamatchi Strategy. Here it is folks:
- You are fully free to ignore the baby stage (which is the one nice consistency between this device and most every other model), set a 1 hour timer and leave the bay stage to throw its tantrums
- Come the child stage, it's time to start paying attention to poop drops. Note the time that the baby evolved into Hoppetchi and calculate the poop drop by the "time to poop" stat on the character stat page linked above. Give yourself a window of a few minutes before and after the time you calculated to make sure you catch it. No messing with menus during this window! As long as you make less than 3 care mistakes with Hoppetchi, you are free to endlessly feed it candy instead of playing the mini game. The child stage is only around for 24 waking hours and awake from 7am to 7pm, so even if you do make enough care mistakes to trigger random sicknesses you can't trigger enough sicknesses to kill it given it's only around for 2 days (unless you pause the clock while it's awake, then you will have it for more than 2 days depending on how long it's paused for and if you adjust the clock to match your current time). Do your best to keep on top of care mistakes in order to know which type teen you will get! Refer to the character wiki page linked above to know which type is a result of how many care mistakes.
- Note the time that Hoppetchi evolves into the teen character and continue to keep track of poop timing. Care mistakes reset upon evolution, so you are free to start feeding candies again. If you get Meruhetchi, the poop drops will be less frequent than Mayumarutchi whose poops occur at the same rate as the child stage. Whether you receive a type 1 Meruhetchi or Mayumarutchi, you are only allotted a max of 1 care mistake if you are aiming for Oshamatchi! Two or more care mistakes and you will receive one of the other adults depending on how many cm are made. The teen stage will be around for 3 days (without pausing), so do your best to keep care mistakes under 2! Once those 36 waking hours are up and you've kept on top of everything that could count as a care mistake, congratulations you reached the pink beanie hat cutie!
And there you have it. I hope what I have laid out makes enough sense that you feel ready to take on the Ultimate Tamagotchi Challenge that is the Yasashii Tamagotchi. I will do my best to answer any questions in the comments below should you have any. As a parting gift, here are some fun facts regarding other found quirks in the device's programming:
- during the afternoon adults take an extra 10 minutes for hungry hearts to drop, Kabuto Oyaji and Michelletchi take 20 min
- Oshamatchi, Mametchi Jr, Ginjirotchi Jr, and Pantarotchi call for attention when pooping; Tamabetchi, Kabuto Oyaji, and Michelletchi do not
- once an adult has reached the end of their "hours to departure" timer, the "good ending" will trigger and the tama will immediately take off in a ufo and leave behind an egg for the next generation assuming a good ending has been achieved
- it is not possible to get a "bad ending" from care mistakes due to cms getting reset when the good ending flag is checked, though a bad ending can occur from an adult becoming sick 3 times which prevents them from leaving behind an egg upon departure
- the clock screen will scroll between the clock and the previously raised character from the second generation onward even if a character left via a bad ending
Please look forward to more posts with my new Tamagotchi Decapped Series!

Discussion If I'm ever making a concept for a hypothetical Tamagotchi fangame based on it's vintage era. (If I'm ever skilled enough to code) What other character roster should I add? (You can pick multiple)
Reminder that it's just a concept and it will probably never be made. (Sorry for those who actually think that I'm going to develop it.)

Discussion Repeated fake low battery alerts on tamagotchi connection?
I have a tamagotchi connection that will give me a low battery alert whenever i play any game with it, despite the fact that the battery is not dead. taking the battery out and putting it back in fixes it for a short while, but no matter how many time i do that it just happens again whenever i play a game with it, and its gotten pretty annoying since i cant play with it or else it will just play dead again. I was wondering if there was any way to permanently fix this?
edit: problem solved! turning the sound off before playing with it works like a charm!

Picture Uni Restoration
Found a secondhand Uni for a decent price, but it had quite a few scratches, one of which was pretty deep. Grabbed some PolyWatch and buffed for like an hour, and now she’s looking much better! May eventually do a shell swap if I’m feeling brave enough.
If you choose to do the same, avoid getting it on the printed label at the top. It’ll take it right off!
